So many of my friends are going with the very trendy "gray" but some of them are finding out that winter, and all of the cloudy days that go with it, is making that "disagreeable gray" into a "depressing dingy gray." No thanks!

First of all I've been painting 52 years so I know what I'm doing ..That being said alabaster is the worst covering paint I've ever used in my life I do believe. I'm going over Sea Salt After 3 Coats is still isn't covering like I need it to, I'm going to apply a fourth coat I believe that will do it. More and more I notice that paints are not covering like they used to and generally you're looking at a minimum of 2 Coats and usually 3 on just about any paint color.

@@paulflowers5497coverage isn’t dictated by what color you’re using, it’s from the qualities of the paint itself. There’s very little color additives in a gallon of paint. I’m currently going from a “camel” color to Shoji White and SW Duration covers it in one coat except for where I have to use a brush - takes two coats there.

I love alabaster so I painted my bathroom cabinets and now I hate my wall color haha. I did alabaster cabinets and agreeable gray on the walls for my laundry room and we love that but I want to do something different for the bathroom. Do you have something else you prefer over City Loft? Kinda wanna move away from the grays. Some thing like a warm white maybe?

Well this is timely. Our builder just had our new house painted…I chose Alabaster. It’s reading a little more yellow than I thought but furnishings aren’t in yet. I think I’ll like it with my white cabinets & cream, brown & taupes color scheme. I plan on adding a feature wall in SW Smokehouse….maybe. Thanks for cracking the code😉

I'm using Alabaster on the exterior of my house, with Urbane Bronze as the trim color, and Dorian Gray for the shutters. My house faces north and much of it is in shade all day long. I think the warmer aspect of Alabaster will do well in the shade. I've learned a lot from your videos. Keep 'em coming! :)

All my trim and ceilings are alabaster (semi gloss/flat). I am repainting my whole house have been agonizing over paint colors for each room. I just watched your super helpful video on choosing one color to start and only deviate when compelled. That seems like such a relief. Do you have suggestions for an off white that would differentiate from the trim but still be a light neutral not gray or beige. I saw you mention white duck? That is on my list as well as Shoji white. Thanks!

Hi Lori! Those are both good choices, I'm particularly fond of White Duck, but it's best when pairing whites to try them out side by side as they'll bring out each other's undertones. Since your trim is semi-gloss, you could also consider doing the walls in Alabaster but a different sheen like eggshell, which also gives that bit of difference. But please don't agonize! Have fun!

Hey Brook, probably should just to test some out next to the cabinets. If one white is brighter, it might highlight the undertones in the other but you might like the way that looks, all depends, so it's tough to try and guess.

I think it could work! Next to the gray, Alabaster might read a little more beige. In the light outside though, it might just look more white. So make sure you try it out first.

I would like to see a Benjamin Moore alabaster vs a Sherrington Williams alabaster. I painted my guest room Benjamin Moore alabaster but I think the rest of my rooms need be just a small touch creamier. What’s the difference in the two?

Hi Gail! Benjamin Moore Alabaster has more of a pink undertone, while Sherwin Williams Alabaster has a greige undertone. SW Alabaster has a hint of warmth and BM Alabaster has a hint of cool.

I’d love to see a video on SW Origami White. I looked at many SW off-whites as I’m having a house built with lots of North and South facing 2-story windows and I’m just not sure how to satisfy the look of the paint from both directions. I haven’t even broke ground so I can’t even use sample ls yet. I chose OW because it seemed neutral enough without being warm or cool. And I have to use SW for the builder. Thanks.

I painted swatches of Steam and Alabaster directly next to each other on my wall. In certain lights they are dead ringers for each other. However in direct sunlight Alabaster is a brighter cleaner looking white while Steam is darker and almost muddy in comparison.

Well the Sherwin Williams plant in Bedford Heights Ohio is currently on strike for 2 months now. The company cant afford to give us a cost of living raise. We were working 12 hours a day 6 days a week, meanwhile they are building a 300 million dollar new headquarters in Downtown Cleveland Ohio. But they cant afford to pay us

As a builder, I have regular requests for Alabaster and never fails, because of lighting in some rooms the owners always say, " this room needs another coat" because they believe what they see is the gray of the new drywall coming thru. Exen with good primer it takes 3 finish coats sometimes 4. Just giving my experience.
