Total like the bike. We don't understand how you could cruise without a bike. Putting over 3000 miles on a 20 inch folding bike until it broke in half going over an overpass. Now a 26 folder that is no comparison, easier, hauls more, pulls a trailer, more than 9000 miles, and takes just a slight more room but well worth it. Great job on the video. Always enjoy watching and be safe so we may enjoy more of you two great people. Thor

Jamie..this episode is just hilarious..not just your normal unvarnished banter and commentary, but also things like using lanolin for lubricant (with the sheep on a guys back!). I follow you guys as much as possible as I do RAN Sailing, Gone with the Wynn's, and the Zatara family, and of course Ruby Rose, but when I need a good dose of humour and sarcasm there is nothing comes close to you guys and your sailing channel. I love my folding bike. It is so handy, easy to fold, and it fits into my sail locker with ease. It is also small enough that I can pop it inside if I need to yet it doesn't take up too much room. I especially like your bag for the bikes. Now you have given me a new project! Thanks also for showing me those very interesting pedals. Great video yet again!

We did have 12" wheel steel folding bikes, but when the fell apart we went for alloy 20" wheeled bikes and totally agree with you. The extra ride comfort of the larger wheels was surprising. The old bikes had folding pedals which always felt insecure. The current bikes have fixed pedals, but after seeing your video will track down the removable pedals, great solution.

Why should you have bikes on board? So you can land cruise of course. 👍. We have two folding Solorock 16” single speed bikes that are a nice small package that fit perfectly in the lazerette on our 37’ Hunter. They cost us only $200 each brand new. We love these and went with single speed for simplicity of maintenance and the 16” tires are the perfect compromise between 20” and 12” still providing a smooth ride. I love your pedals, where did you get them or what is the brand name? We have the folding one you showed and although they have yet broken we have had the concerns you mentioned. Thanks again...
@followtheboat4 жыл бұрын
The pedals are UB-lite and they're made in Japan. Almost as expensive as the bike! Single speed is a great idea and is better for the exercise too. I went mountain biking in Bolivia and the guide was on a single speed. Nutter!

Sailing followtheboat LOL, that’s what I was afraid you would say. Bike parts and marine parts seem to follow the same basic rule, if it’s sport specific the price is double what you think it should be, especially if you’re looking for quality. Market size is one reason of course but there are other factors as well. Thanks 🙏
@ylemoine14 жыл бұрын
PanzerDave, thanks! I found them on amazon for $50-70 shipped from Japan with between $20-$0 shipping. Although the plastic folding ones I have now may break, they’re easy to find locally for $20 a pair so I’ll probably buy a stair of those instead. Unlike @FollowtheBoat we coastal cruise and can easily restock when needed. 😊 I may change my mind in the future and will update my thoughts if I do.

🤣😁 Loved your video! Jamie, good to see you have plenty of "kid" in you. You confirmed we are not different because we plan to buy a couple of folding bikes to go ashore and also knew we would make some heavy duty bags for storage and transport ashore on a dinghy. Our sailing friends don't "get it". Every summer we go on a few cruises and we bring our road bikes...secured on deck cause they barely fit inside our 26' sailboat. Fantastic when visiting a town, do groceries, laundry, cinema, restaurant etc. The funny thing is people think, because of the bikes on deck, we are liveabord and retired. 😂 We wish!

I use a kayak helmet these days. Comfortable and better protection than those bike helmets that just sit on the top of your head. I also wear the helmet on rough days sailing. Way too easy to get a head injury with accidental jibes, falls, etc.

Sailing followtheboat : That is the thing, in The Netherlands they recognise that community social and casual cycling are completely different to sport cycling. Cycling here starts soon after birth as parents take their children every where with them on their bikes, and there are many, many, types of bikes. Towns here are commonly car unfriendly in favour of bikes, and it is great. If I have to wear a helmet I have a construction helmet for the task because I know the hidden secret danger of push bike helmets, and have a friend who is a partial c5 quadriplegic because of it. You are not as safe as you think you are with the standard cycling helmet, motor bike helmets completely safe, cycling helmets, dangerous. It is to do with the dynamic properties of polystyrene foam under load, and that helmets are not tested in real accident conditions. I might try to get the high speed video guys to do a video to demonstrate what happens when ps foam hits a rough surface at a glancing angle. Its quite violent.

When we had our bikes on board I was able to do *almost* as much grocery shopping via my bicycle as I would with a car. I have two pannier bags and a big backpack. But they aren't folding and took up too much space. We now have e-scooters, which are fine, but I can only carry a backpack of cargo - no panniers. And I feel like a cock flying 15mph down the sidewalk. I do miss having my bike on board. Maybe it's time to shop a folding bike.

One thing to add: Burley makes an excellent folding bike trailer called the Travoy. It is absolutely brilliant as a bike trailer OR just a tote trailer for walking around. You can even take it into shops as a shopping cart. I've regularly loaded ours up with 30-40 kilos of food or gear. I've often hauled two full diesel jerrys on it a number of times. It is so well balanced you can tow it loaded down with 2 fingers as long as you are not going up or down a hill. Care must be taken near marina pontoon ramps as it deals with the weight of a load so well you forget how heavy it is untill you attempt to pull it down a ramp behind you and it nearly runs your arse down.

😂😂😂 Not sure we'd have room for a Burley but they look great.

They fold down to the size of a framed rucksack when the wheels pop off.
@svbarryduckworth6284 жыл бұрын
It is a good design, and they have come out with a newer model now which solves two of the minor issues of our older trailer. The "kickstand" is now much better and solid, and the wheel guards are built-in. We had to sew our own wheel fender guards in to keep the wheels from abrading the lower bag when it was overloaded with goodies. I hope KZbin allows a product link to amazon. Not cheap though. But it is very high quality alloy tubular folding construction, with clever wheels that pop off with only a push on the button at the end of the axle. www.amazon.com/dp/B083XFXKRZ/ref=cm_sw_r_apa_i_UPGFEbTZ1VX3J
