This channel is managed by the Krishnamurti Foundation Trust, UK, and by the Krishnamurti Foundation of America.
The role of the foundations was described by Krishnamurti when he said, 'The foundations will see to it that these teachings are kept whole, are not distorted, are not made corrupt. They will not give rise to any sectarian spirit in their activities... nor create any kind of place of worship around the teachings or the person.'
We maintain extensive archives of Krishnamurti's original works and all four Krishnamurti foundations are actively engaged in the publication of material in various forms.
Our videos contain thousands of subtitles in more than 25 languages, translated by volunteers from all over the world. If you would like to help us with translating subtitles, please contact us at digital@kfoundation.org

I've been reflecting these days about control. But not to control my desires, but to always be in pleasure. I perceive this constant need to be in control of reality so _I do not feel pain_ or any kind of discomfort. Therefore I must be always thinking, always planning "what do I do next?", "what comes now?", and in this constant planning, this constant objectification of reality as mere things I can have in order to feel pleasure. This is insane, maybe this is one definition of true insanity. Because while I am always thinking, always *calculating what comes* next, what do I do next, the attempt is always to ran away from myself, from the emotions and feelings that emerge from my being. One emotion threatens to be the 'protagonist' of my thought, and this emotion is bad, like sadness, anxiety, fear, loneliness, so I immediately start calculating what can I do to not feel this, to mask the feeling and continue in pleasure, that is a form of stillness, a form of unconsciousness in a way that I can carry my thought without any interruption. And this is mechanical almost; plus the vision, the idea of the "world", what the world is, what reality is, is the continuation of this process of thinking, because I am also always trying to find where I fit, and by that I mean where my desire fits in the world surrounding me. By trying to find where my desire fits in the world what I am actually doing is creating this image of what the world is *accordingly to my desire* so it's an egocentric movement, where _being in constant pleasure_ is like the _overlord_ of my life, like the basic law by which I should live; I end up being a slave of it. Even when I am here, right now, I have this constant projection of an image of what I am, what I meant to society; it's constant comparison. I cannot say "I am..." while I still try to finish the sentence with the word "someone" or "something". Better saying, I cannot be I am while this "I am" is ruled by the desire to fit in something, to be part of this gigantic machine that is my image of the world in which I'm a cog. But more and more I approach the feeling that *I shall not be part of something bigger, of this hyperstructure* put together by thought and comparison. Actually it's a need, I need to not start this movement at all. And I have the impression that this is a path to freedom. I can't simply come to a conclusion and go on with life, because by doing this I continue the problem, I have generated another image of what I think the world is - thereby a conclusion about reality - and try to use it to my advantage like some sort of magical password to stable a constant pleasure. There can't be a "Pedro", there can't be a "world", for thinking these things are real I am giving fuel to illusion, I am deceiving myself, as they're merely a fruit of my desire and my thoughts. So when a bad feeling comes, when the light reaches the eye, or the smell is felt by the nose, or when someone is saying something, I have to let it be without *any opinion, conclusion or whatsoever* because if I do so then my ego is the protagonist and everything, again, is about where and how can I fit my desire in the world or fit the world in my desire. And I think this synchronizes a lot with what Jiddu is saying in this cut because this cannot be procrastinated as every time I do so I fall in the same mistake. This have to be now and always now. When I try to conclude something the desire behind it is to 'know' what *is* and by knowing have control of what is. So I'm the character of this knowledge which has a 'position' inside all of that, a meaning that only comes into being through comparison. Am I a toilet, or a table, or a wall? I therefore conclude not, I'm not all of these, so I must be something in between and the toilet, the table and the wall are centered around this persona, this protagonist. But the protagonist is a son of fear. As control is needed because I have fear to not have control and by not having it being deprived of pleasure. Fear and pleasure therefore are very similar in a way, for fear is the desire to not be without pleasure. Life can't simply continue as always. This is imperative and I think this is in way a form of meditation.

This is a very good comment, and shows a lot of thought. It would benefit from some editing to make it simpler and shorter. But the basic comment is very interesting and thoughtful. In case you are wondering what the third commenter, who has written in Hindi, is saying, here is a translation: " You have written a lot. Write less". I don't know why he has chosen to comment in Hindi.

..isn’t the intellect of the brain, I don’t think JK would be too happy with your praise haha. He might say the intellect produces theories built from the scaffolding of thought. Can the intellect solve it’s own problem which is the scaffolding itself, it’s so difficult, how does thought look at itself or can it, where do you start then, you cannot do anything it seems, yes you can pay attention or be aware, outside of that there is nothing to do, there is always resignation I suppose

The only thing that this wise old man would imply through all of his speeches (whether it is about desire, whether it is about fear, whether it is about greed, whether it is about love etc etc) is to be attentive, absolutely attentive, cultivate the quality of attention and that there is no teacher required for that, no practice, nothing. Just be attentive and thereby, be with oneself. He himself implies that listening to more and more of his speeches, watching more and more of his videos etc etc are not going to help. Just be attentive and thereby, be with oneself.

So to sums it up: Control is organized disorder which can never been fully controlled. And the countrary to let chaos be, means you are controlling yourself to the inevitability of chaos and disorder.

It's very clear to me except the very last part... How does that work? That pure awareness of the desire without trying to control will finish it for good? I don't understand how is that supposed to work
@bh_486
@bh_486 2 жыл бұрын
Awareness is a special quality of the mind, many people do not have it. So awareness has to grow. Along with awareness is Observation, this is also a special quality of the mind. Particularly observation without interference from the Self. Or as Krishnamurti calls it - Observation without an Observer. This is a very rare quality. If you have that quality of mind and can observe Desire as it develops within you, then you will already be one step above the desire, you will not be caught in the desire, you will not be pushed around by the desire. This dynamic of observing desire (or any other aspect of your mental life) ends the potency of desire, and you can observe its structure, in doing so it loses its power over you. But the most important thing is to develop the difficult mental attribute of observation (which includes awareness) without the observer - (Without You inserting your opinions and prejudices).

My understanding is that desires will arise whether we like it or not. There are multiple ways we deal with them - some we suppress, some we act upon, some we want to act upon but cannot. But his point is to think of a desire as another thought, something that comes up, you then watch your desire, observe the feeling of desire itself and not the object of it, and it will eventually go away once your mind moves on to other things. That's my understanding. It would be very interesting to see how this works in practice.
