Wow! Thanks so much for playing! Shrine 2 is a project very near and dear to my heart, it was pure chaos- two dudes just throwing shit at the wall trying to make a fun game. Warts and all, making it was fun as hell and it's very flattering that you put so much effort into making this video. Watching this I realized just how much I had forgotten about the game, I'm constantly working on games so it was neat to reminisce and remember some of the work Mengo and I did. Again, thanks so much for playing and making this awesome video! It's an honor.

Man, Shrine 2 is one of the very best TC/games made in Doom, and you have to know what a high praise this is! And personally it's by far the most asthetically pleasing mod in doom. It's this unholy mixture of 8bit colors, elements, with eldritch horror. And the sirenhead inclusion was brilliant - you are the only one who seemed to understand how to capture it's unsettling nature without making it a cheap scp-like enemy. Shrine II is in my top 5 total conversions in Doom, which by extension places it really high on my favourite FPS list :) Congrats and than you!!!

The fact Mengo never told me about this video is a crime, Shrine II is what got me to really like these games and got me doing fanart. That's how I landed doing the art and story for Shrine III before it got cancelled which I'm still sad about, luckily I can at least do something with the story when I have the free time from my projects currently chaining me
@georgedotexe17 күн бұрын
@o_ter wow, your story is an interesting one. I'm glad you enjoyed the video, I'm exceptionally proud of it, and I'm absolutely chuffed to bits that I got the opportunity to make it and glaze my favourite game for an hour lol
@o_ter17 күн бұрын
@georgedotexeYeah!! It was definitely a troubled time since it was just me and Mengo for a long time, Scum didn’t wanna do 3 but Mengo did so I essentially had to fill a similar spot (except I can’t code lol) and it was so weird. I’ll for sure have to write about it as an afterword when I do that thing Mengo gave me clearance to do lol

Sorry it took me so long to check out this video! Happy to see you enjoyed it so much and I'm sad to see other people agree on various parts of the game LOL And about S3... Shrine 3 is in a very odd state rn, it's a thing that I'd rather cook up behind the scenes if at all, but i think in it's current state i want to downscale it a good bit and maybe rework a lot of Shrine 3 since I've realized it's kinda strayed a ton from what i liked so much about my work on Shrine 2. A.K.A. Shrine 3 is Tusk Nukem Forever A.K.A. play Pandora's Wrath instead because i stole S3 mechanics for Pandora's Wrath LOL

The classic doom hate is wild tho, it looks great for the arts type, the gameplay is fine. It's COOL to not be able to look up and hit enemies, you're basically just playing a racing game too. The shit is insanely good and timeless.

One more addition to my never ending list of gzdoom mods. All games on that engine are so fun. Pair that up with an ai map generator and the fun is quite literally endless. I have made maps that are 50mbs in size. If you know anything about gzdoom maps is that the maps are pretty small in size. But i made the levels so large that it would take me around an hour of exploring, gathering keys, avoiding random traps and playing minigames for loot, etc to get to the end.

I hope you did pick up the funny yet powerful powerup that you can find 2 (or maybe more, I'm not sure) times in the game.

Theory time, Chapter 5 fits in perfectly thematically, Azathoth is the blind idiot god, all powerful yet also dangerously unpredictable and insane by even the standards of the other Lovecraftian gods, as such the reason I believe he is using the eldritch hoard to corrupt the realms is the same one he filled the cosmos with random crap and carnivals and shit, I think he is a divine being of incredible power with the mind of a board child just kind of trying to entertain himself by making toys and messing with ants; and the slap dash nature of chapter 5 perfectly reflects that. Also forgot to mention but I think the eclipse you see throughout the game is his eye watching you. edit here: I also personally think the ophanim was being used by Azathoth, not the other way around.

Nicely done with this video! Seeing it in my timeline actually reminded me to check the games out for myself, and I enjoyed myself with 2 a lot. You REALLY missed out not catching that secret level. That shark thing you get from the bonus level REALLY helps with the tankier enemies. It really feels like most of the encounters after you pick it up are balanced around having it, as it doesn't even break the game per say. Like every point where you mention struggling against a forced encounter with a tanky enemy, I got through far more easily thanks to the shark. Of the levels in the game from Hell forward, the only one that really bothered me was that one with the playing cards. (I DO think that the carnival at least plays well into the theming. Its out of place and absurd in a way that feels like a sort of nonsequitur. Like the universe itself trends toward madness in the face of what Azathoth represents and the weird circus is like, symptomatic of a corner of the universe giving into that madness. Trying to escape what that means in this carnie attraction right outside a confusing labyrinth of terrifying shadow). I had a fascinating go of the game starting from the Ophanim fight, where I was pretty consistently low on health and needing to pull out all the stops to keep myself in the game. The bonus boss that gives you the shark gun (A version of Tusk from the first game that I think represents Wrath)? I NEEDED to break out items for the first time in the game to beat him. I could not take him in a straight fight without the dogs drawing fire at the level of HP I was at. I legit think the balancing issues you noted would have ruined the experience if I didn't grab the shark gun, but because I did? There was a REALLY interesting balance to all of these proceedings where it was the thing tipping the scales enough to let me win. (Also oh my God, same on the Azathoth fight's lag at the end. Literally the only way that fight was remotely surmountable was to have my powered up attack at the ready to kill him as quick as possible before that could be used. I'm glad I'm not the only one who ran into that.)

I think this mod is overall great, but man, do I disagree with your opinion on the final boss. The first and second phase are very good, well balanced attacks and a killer soundtrack, but once he takes you to the final arena, it all goes down to shit. A lot of his attacks are nearly undodgeable, and there's so much shit going on that it's actually painful to look at, let alone find the fucker in the clusterfuck of projectiles. And of course, there's also the lag. Jesus Christ, the lag. Scumhead must have the best fucking computer in the world if they playtested the boss and found the battle to be in a playable state, because I have a decent computer myself and GZDoom should _not_ lag that bad, even with the projectile amount. Overall, a really good mod with a very shitty conclusion. But yeah, still one of the best Doom mods out there, for sure.

Ultimate doom and some of the most popular mega wads old and recent but man leaving mouse aim ok why not ... But crouching and especially jumping breaks a ton of map! Because you find yourself able to teach places before you should! And I dunno to me it's not doom. GZ doom has great game where you can but for me when I play a doom 2 méga wad 1 st thing I do (and they are all in a row in the option is turn off:mouse aim, crouch and jump. Then go.
