I think for Sidious, in private, the Inquisitors were never meant to successfuly hunt and kill a jedi but meant to locate them and determine how much of a threat the jedi would be. If an Inquisitor did kill a jedi then said jedi was not a threat to begin with. At least that's my opinion of the new canon.

Like, when Kanan fought the grand inquisitor the gi basically just stood still with his blade spinning, but because there was a giant whole in the middle of the weapon, Kanon was able to just put his lightsabers in the whole and move them apart to destroy the inquisitor's blade.

What's to fear when all the Inquisitors were garbage (compared to Sidious)? If Mace Windu, Yoda, and Jedi Council couldn't stop him then what is to fear? Sidious loves perverting things. He probably thought it was hilarious to take *mediocre* Jedi, torture them, corrupt them to the dark side, and have them hunt Order 66 survivors. But the inquisitors were no true threat to him. Sidious could probably blink, and take them out that fast.

I sometimes wonder if Asajj Ventress was like a trial version toward the Inquisitors, to see how strong Sidious could train other force users before they'd become too dangerous. Ventress herself was not a Sith, though she thought she was, but she became powerful enough even Palpatine was concerned with her prowess. I always felt that when he picked the Inquisitors, he chose capable lightsaber combatants at least and was careful not to pick any with connections to the force as powerful as Ventress' to prevent a repeat of her, ensuring that they could at least stand up to any Jedi they fought, but any victories they had would likely be strength of numbers over their individual skill.

Tbf, back then Sidious could have just ordered Doku to get rid of her. Even when Ventress had her own aprentice, they wouldnt stand a chance against Doku. I mean, the guy handeled Obi Wan and Anakin in a 1v2 a couple of times.

This reminds me of one Inquisitor who aspired to be as powerful as Sidious in Legends, possibly even more. That is High Inquisitor Jerec. Once he was an Jedi archeologist under the tutelage of Jocasta Nu, Jerec became the one of many in the Inquisitorious, reaching the rank of High Inquisitor. He longed to gain the knowledge and understanding of both the Jedi and Sith teachings as he saw them as tools to greater power. Had Vader not lived, or even existed, Sidious would have chosen Jerec as his apprentice since his power rivaled Vader's. Knowing Jerec's ambitions and his rivalry with Vader, Sidious hindered his access to the Dark Side Compendium. I wish SWRC can talk about him in a future video.

I love lore about the Inquisitors and the whole Jedi Purge era. Call me a sadist, but something about former Jedi getting tortured into becoming Jedi hunters just seems so cool to me, lots of great stories they could come up with there. This is one reason why I loved Fallen Order so much, playing a surviving Jedi and fighting the Inquisitors and Purge Troopers was awesome. I hope the next FO game picks up right where the last one left off.

The darkside can draw in powerful individuals to be used as tools and blunt weapons but can never be powerful enough to aspire to become a true sith. They were powerful enough to route out and identify hidden Jedi throughout the Galaxy, more so that Darth Vader could hunt them down himself after the Inquisitiors found them. Vader was in charge of parts of the empires military so he couldn't devote all his time to searching the galaxy for any Jedi survivors.

Sidious took on both Maul and Savage Oppress (both stronger than any inquisitor) and smashed them without breaking a sweat. He also took on 4 Jedi masters at once , slaying 3 of them in mere seconds before going 1 vs 1 against Windu. Won a split decision against Yoda too. So to resume : Sidious could take on all inquisitors at the same time by himself and come out on top pretty quickly. He wouldn't even need Vader to help him. Palps is in a complete different league compared to these cans

That's not strictly true. While the average Inquisitor was little more than barely trained ex agricorps and padwan rejects, there were exceptions. Jerec for instance was the third most powerful Darksider in the Empire after Sidious and Vader. He constantly attempted to further his power to overthrow the two Sith Lords and rule. To this end he quietly used his position as an Inquisitor to garner powerful allies and financial backers until he became wealthy enough to purchase his own Super Star Destroyer. He also personally cultivated the loyalty of all Force users he found and turned to himself, assembling his own power base of followers. He developed techniques like Force Destruction specifically to use one day on Vader and the Emperor. Finally he sought the Valley of the Jedi to absorb the thousands of Force spirits inside it to dwarf even Palpatine in power. He was EXTREMELY dangerous and Palpatine both cut off Jerec's access to his own teachings as well as assigning Thrawn to watch the Dark Jedi on occasion.

Ultimately the whole issue with palpatine. He never allowed an apprentice to really advance in the dark side. They were held back and cadt asside when their uses were completed. Even vader was cast aside for luke in the end. When sidious was eventually defeated in his third or forth clone was killed, the true sith lineage died with him. Thus the prophecy was true, anakin destroyed the sith in the end. The later sith were nowhere close in power and its all because of sidious' hubris.

Like a story about a Red Guard discovering he could use the force , and Inquisitors discovering powerful relics . Your coming at this question as if the Inquisitors would challenge Sheeve & Anikan head on. If they did it that way then the answer is a huge no. But if the Inquisitors challenged Anikan & Sheeve through cunning, lies, schemes & more through deception the Inquisitors would have a chance. Just like how Sheeve had to do to Plagueis in order to defeat him. Sheeve knew a head to head challenge the way the Rule Of Two was meant to be he didn't stand a chance. So Sheeve had to use other tools of the Darkside the way Darth Bane didn't want the exchange of power from Apprentice to Master to be, so if you look at it that way the Inquistors could have done it.

if Canon wanted to do something like “The Force Unleashed” they could have Vader secretly train an Inquisitor beyond what Sidious would allow. Vader and this inquisitor would fight sidious and loose. the inquisitor would die and sidious would torture Vader. This could also answer my question of why the inquisitors didn’t hunt Luke Skywalker during the Original Trilogy.

I have a more intriguing question: if the Inquisitors were never a threat to the Sith, why did Sidious disband them (and made them vanish)? I understand that their main purpose was to wipe out the remaining Jedi, but after that, and especially considering that Sidious had already been looking for potential replacements for Vader since his "rebirth", why not keep them around as enforcers/backup plan?

I think the best analogy to explain why the Inquisitorius was never really a threat to the empire is that Sidious is a hunter. The inquisitors are the attack dogs, and Vader is his rifle.

I think the Grand Inquisitor said it the best, “there are some things far more frightening than death.” We have no idea if he was talking about Vader or Sidious. But given the context of the 1st season where Vader is personally giving orders to the Grand Inquisitor, I think it’s safe to assume that the entity being “far more frightening than death would be Vader.” Which makes you wonder.... how would he describe Sidious? The way I see it is that the idea sparked in Season 2 of the clone wars where Palpatine had Cad Bane kidnap those kids and bring them to Mustafar. He then capitalized on the idea after Order 66 to use them to give them a false sense of security. Basically “hey I won’t kill you. I’ll show you death all around you. I’ll show your fears (just like Anakin). But if you do this task then I’ll greatly reward you!” Then by the time they realize it, it would be too late. The idea of the Inquisitors is a genius move on Palpatine’s behalf because A) it makes the the enemies of the empire fear them that much more (for example, if the Inquisitors are THIS powerful, we do NOT want to know how powerful the emperor is) and B) he destroys any Jedi’s spirit that turns into one.

Because they were first answering to Sidious, not to Vader. The difference between Ventress's and Savage's existence is that they would follow Maul and Dooku, not Sidious if a fight happens between them. Inquisitors would still follow Sidious's orders, not Vader's if Vader tries to overthrow Sidious. Because Sidious created the Inquisitorious first, not Vader. So it's related to whose allegiance belongs to who. Inquisitors would follow Sidious first if Sidious and Vader fights with each other, thus that's not a threat for Sidious. And Vader allowed them to exist, because they are individually not powerful enough to be an apprentice to Sidious as well.

Sidious absolutely did not believe in or adhere to the Rule of Two. Much like Darth Krayt, he adhered to a Rule of One, himself being the One rather than the Sith as a whole in his own case. Any excuses he made for allowing Assassins, Acolytes, or Inquisitors to coexist with the Rule of Two Sith were him blowing smoke. Sidious was the textbook definition of a liar and a hypocrite in every way.

Makes sense in a way. Why would you need to have them be overly powerful? The majority of Jedi are not great fighters. Sure the masters and some of the knights are good in a fight. But the Sith always has 2 very powerful force users/duelists. So most of the Jedi inquisitors are going to run up against is a fairly close fight, and if it is not Vader can go in. If one of the inquisitors bumps into someone truly skilled like Obi-wan they are not going to win anyways, short of giving them to much power.

In legends not really, since Plageius knew that Maul existed and they never trained him as a Sith Lord, only as an assasin. Maul thought he was a Lord, but he was basically a really strong Inquisitor.

He didn't worry because he and Vader were two of the five most powerful force users in the galaxy. Only Luke, Leia, and Yoda could rival the power of the emperor or the chosen one, and since the chosen one had been mangled and burned he also couldn't take the emperor by himself.

The Inquisitors weren't even full Sith, if I remember correctly. They were like Dark Side acolytes, they were just Dark Side warriors. Sort of like Maul, they were blunt instruments and terror weapons to maintain the status quo via fear. Still, it does seem a bit of a risk to grant anyone outside of the two Sith Lords any knowledge or training in the Dark Side. Give them a taste of the power and it's pretty obvious that any kind of engulfment in the dark side leads to a terrible, suicidal lust for power and dominance. What if they somehow uncovered or stole some holicrons or something? Still, I think they made sure that the Inquisitors were hella weak compared to actual Sith. Sort of like sith troopers from the old republic era, but with the barest force abilities. I don't think any of these fools were even higher tier Jedi, as the most powerful of the Jedi order were hunted down and killed.

Weeks after Order 66, Vader still getting used to his new suit and cybernetics and eventually had to relearn his lightsaber techniques. Vader is basically handicapped in his early days but he manage to the most powerful of the Inquisitors (who was once a Jedi guard). They really do suck.

No they're meant to evaluate the threat of Jedi. If the Jedi were weak enough for the Inquisitors to handle they weren't a threat to begin with. If the Jedi were powerful to handle the Inquisitors enough then the possibility of them being a real threat opens up. Also no, even the most poweful Jedi died during Order 66. Most survivors were simply very lucky with their location with very few exceptions like Ashoka, Yoda and Obi-wan who were actually powerful.
