Why Silver is a GOOD Character

Silver's naivety has a unique charm to him that actually makes him more interesting character when you look at it. I really think silver needs a second chance at his game play because his original gameplay in Sonic 06 was actually pretty fun, even though he was a little slow, but that was due to unfinished work. I really hope they do give the poor guy a second chance in future titles.

When I played "Sonic 06" when it came out I found playing as Silver very interesting as he was a hedgehog like Sonic and Shadow but not like he was "another faker hedgehog". Granted it got annoying in the hub world as silver isn't fast so it was annoying to go around the place while Sonic and Shadow breeze through easily...but I like that Silver isn't fast as it doesn't paint that "Hedgehogs are fast" which wouldn't be unique to Sonic. Hell if "Sonic Heroes" had a team Silver he wouldn't be the speed member of the team, he'd be the fly while Blaze would be speed and...well maybe Mighty can be their 3rd and take the power slot??? Anywho, Silver was never a bad character, just had a bad first impression to most by a bad game.

Just make it good, so not only does it not fail like Shadow the hedgehog, but it also shows that this character is the motherfricking best in the series. I mean, he's basically what happens when you take Sonic's speed, Blaze's personality, Knuckles' dorkness, Shadow's badassness, and Super Sonic's flying abilities, add in some telekinesis, and BAM! You get Silver.

I remember watching another video that summed up Silver perfectly: He's meant to be a foil to Sonic's cool, confident, self-assured attitude. Silver is kind of a dork, just trying his best whilst barely knowing what he's actually doing. He's so genuine in everything he does, it's hard not to like the guy. I'd imagine he'd be a good person to play some Mario Party with.

Silver got screwed over. His powers are interesting and he has a nice design. It should have been a great mechanic to the game. With better writing, his story could've been heartwarming. He still might have gotten Trunks comparisons but at least it would have been in a good way. I felt bad for Silver in Sonic 06. His chat with Blaze on whether it's right to kill someone to save the future was great. He wants to do the right thing but doesn't want to go too far unless it's absolutely necessary. That comic you pulled up reminded me of a deleted scene from the first Terminator movie.Kyle Reese freaks out seeing a forest and breaks down crying realizing he was never meant to witness it. What is mild to Sarah Connor is monumental to him. I see Silver like Kyle in that way when done right. The comics got Silver right. Lastly, I think the fact Silver didn't get buried like Nack the Weasel or Bark the Polar Bear says something. Despite being from a infamous bad game, Sega sees something worth keeping. Pretty much everything else about that game has been dropped except for Silver. People liked Mephilis' awesome demeanor but that didn't last. He deserved to come back more than Zavok in my opinion. And thank you for the in depth reply! I agree with just about everything you said. A lot of Sonic's story, characters, and world could benefit simply by having competent writers behind the games. Most non-fans won't know about the things that happen in the comics that further develop and expand on the characters and their personal arcs so the games are going to have to start doing better in that regard because that's where most people will learn about them.

I love Silver! I feel like he does get too much negativity due to one bad game and memes. It also doesn't help that the Sonic Rivals games never had a lot of attention. Thankfully his character really shines in the IDW comics where we get to see him more fleshed out as a social awkward adorkable cinnamon roll who in my opinion also showcases the idea not to take things for granted as in his short story with Blaze in IDW he doesn't even see a beautiful garden in his timeline. Silver will forever be my favorite Character of all time, I find everything about him great! His theme song, badass Psychic powers, awesome and unique design, original personality (he is not just another overcocky hedgy) and man His Character development in 06 is outstanding if You will actually focus on the story (I did and that's why 06 is my fav Sonic game, no joke). I’d like, but the count is 123 and that’s too satisfying. I love Silver, but I can’t say he’s my favorite. I don’t have a favorite, really. I like -all- most of the characters for different reasons. I love Silver, I love Shadow, I love Sonic himself.. hell, I even like Amy, Cream, and Charmy, and people hate those characters! He's such a sweetheart. Silver is one of the best characters I've seen portray naivete well. The aura you were talking about probably influences this because while it's easy to become irritated with characters with the same or similar traits, Silver is so endearing. I enjoyed his 06 presence very much and paid attention to his mannerisms and quirks; He's so charming. You could tell he's a pleasant, cooperative and considerate person. When Amy made him lose sight of Sonic, he wasn't angry. He told her not to worry and that he'd find him soon regardless. Little scenes like this are so significant to me. Because of his kindness, Amy offered to help and he was led to Sonic anyways. He could of easily been angered but understood it was simply just a mistake. I could elaborate more but I don't want to make the comment too long. He's an amazing character and I'm so ready to see more of him. The fact that he was based off of F. Trunks adds to the fondness ♡

I have always LOVED Silver! I love Sonic a lot too, but I connect and relate more to Silver. Especially since we hardly have many friends, are socially awkward and don’t understand much of smack talk, usually the ‘downer’ or serious one, tries to be optimistic yet a realist in hard times, and so much more! I also love his unique design as well and (unpopular opinion) even his voice I like. (Yes even the 06 one!) Honestly, I wish he would be focused on more in maybe his own game or even his own spinoff series, even if it was in a comic series. Shadow and Sonic (and even Big the Cat) get more attention than Silver, and since they are the main three hedgehogs, it’s sad to see him not getting as much attention. I've always liked Silver. Sure, I like to laugh about him sometimes like a lot of people for obvious reasons, but I never hated him. Not at all. I always found him to be an interesting character with a cool design. It's great to see the IDW comics and even the Archie comics of old bring more life to him, as well. Well back in SXSW 2018 Takashi Iizuka admited that they actually have plans for Silver and in the SXSW 2019 he confirmed Sonic Team is working on a new Sonic title, likely must be the 30th anniversary at this point, which will be revealed in June 23rd (Sonic's 29th anniversary). With all this information so far it's possible that, like Shadow in Forces, Silver may finally become playable in a mainline game again and hopefully a key character in the story.

He's a sweet hedgie. I noticed that on that one scene in 06 where he questioned what was right or wrong (plus the song piece is one of my favorites in 06 that is sweet-sounding but thoughtful.) Yes, I will forever hate the boss fights because 06 is a crappy game except for the music but, I never hated Silver tbh. He's just naive as Knuckles is gullible & I wouldn't change that about him. :)

Silver is quite young which would explain part of his naiveness. Knuckles on the other hand, has spent his entire life on a floating island guarding the Master Emerald. He barely gets to be social and is VERY shy around girls. My point is that Silver will grow up and lose that naivete that he has.

Silver is just an unfortunate case of having debuted in a flawed game. The character himself is pretty good and doesn't deserve any of the hate he gets. Anyone who hates on Silver is really just not differentiating from the two things (bad game and bad character). Conceptually speaking, there is nothing too different from him and characters like Shadow or Blaze, yet Silver is the only one who tends to receive a bad treatment mostly because people instinctually make a connection to Sonic 06. But Silver himself is a good character, with TONS of potential. Im glad they're still keeping him around, and I wish to see them expand on his character in future games.

I was a person who didn't like silver initially and wasn't sure why he kept showing up after 06 seeing him as synonyms with the game he debuted in Then I think I started to open up to him when I saw his depiction in the IDW comic and realized that had been there all along. He's a cute awkward dork who just wants to have friends cause he knows what it's like to be alone and I can relate to that. I also like his relationship to Shadow in 06 where they have a sort of mentor and student dynamic; Shadow is the Mature Hero Mentor who's wisened up from his experiences and made him unshakable even when Mephiles is telling him about all the horrible things people are going to do to him. Meanwhile Silver is naive and gullible in his lack of experience trusting people like Mephiles instantly and is eager to try to be a hero but also doubts himself. I would love to see more of this out of them!

Damn right Silver is a good character. I love his overall personality and find him to be very endearing because of how gullible, yet sincere he is. On top of that, I really enjoy his gameplay style in 06. It's flawed, but a platformer where you're controlling a character with psychokinetic powers is a very interesting concept. I wish Sonic Team can go back and refine that gameplay style and possibly use it again in a future Sonic game starring Silver.

I mean hes a time traveler and has physic powers, that seems pretty cool to me. I like how you mention he got rebooted in Sonic Rivals which many tend to overlook. I do think he deserves to appear more often but also we dont get to see a lot of the world hes from since 06. He intrigues me a lot and i would love to know more about him as his own character. From the moment Silver was introduced, I knew that I would be a fan of him. Because after all, most people start off looking through Sonic's perspective, Shadow's perspective shows the morality of Silver. Silver just wants to save his world and save the world in general. He is awkward and doesn't know entirely what he's doing, but he's using what skills he has to make it work. I think he deserves to be in more content, I want to see him be a playable character again, I want to see him adjust to the world after that 2012 Olympics. I want that detail. Then again, I am also biased towards characters that have insecurities and struggle with social interaction

Silver is an amazing character! He’s constantly trying to save his doomed future, so he hardly interacts with anyone. I personally believe his best portrayal is in the IDW comic series. I really love Silver. His design, personality, and history just really stick out to me. Plus, on a personality level, he is by far the most relatable character in the Sonic franchise to me. Especially in the comics, everytime he does something I'm just like "lol that's me" 😂

One of the things I always adored about Silver the Hedgehog is how is personality shifted dramatically in later games. I don't mind characters that are cool headed stoic or serious and anyway. But I also don't mind characters that are optimistic free flowing and relaxed. Think about how psychologically torn a person would be if they grew up in the world where they don't have things like: clean water, fresh food, warm beds or simply the luxury of hearing birds and other little creatures going on about their daily lives? Things that average person like you and I whether we know it or not usually take for granted over 50% of the time. Now try and picture someone that grew up in a war-torn area where there is nothing but destruction and people dying on a daily basis? You never even had that opportunity to know your parents and all you know is that something is responsible for causing all this grief and sorrow yet you have no idea who or what that is. Of course anyone would be absolutely obsessed with what the Catalyst of such catastrophe was! Silver was mentally damaged but it's completely oblivious to that fact. ( the only issue is that that's a pretty difficult subject to try and touch upon and a series ment for a younger audience ) Fast forward to later games and even spin-off titles we get a look at Silver who is: Kind, Compassionate, Gentle, Relaxed, optimistic, awkward, deep, and a caring individual overall. That is a glimpse at the silver we see who text part in a more normal side of life that isn't nothing but the Wasteland or burning City that has been deserted. Showing how happy silver can be over the little things in life really shows a lot of his personality but he also has a serious side to him and that's why he was and still is so interesting to me.

Silver is probably my favorite Sonic character and I feel like he’s super underrated. When you think about it, Silver grew up in a world that was completely destroyed. If it was even a little like Sonic 06’s future. Everything was just ruins and fire and since he didn’t have Blaze since she’s from another dimension in the retcon, Silver likely lived in complete isolation. He undoubtedly lived an extremely difficult life. But the fact that despite all this, he grew up to be such an optimistic and kind character really shows the type of person he is. Yes he tried to kill Sonic but if you were born in a destroyed future and knew how to stop it wouldn’t you try too? Even then, it didn’t change that he still questioned whether killing someone would be the right thing to do. I’m overall just really glad to see Silver get to see the present. Seeing him make friends with the cast and seeing the things his future never had. Silver’s generally someone I want to see in more games. I was really happy to see him in Forces even if his moment to shine was short

Honestly, Silver’s story in Sonic 06 isn’t bad. He’s a sweet, very powerful kid who was duped into fighting the other main characters. Hot take, but the story from 06 wasn’t that bad... excluding a lot of contrivances, Sonic’s romance arc, the weird repetition, and the fact that all consequences were done away with. Silver and Shadow’s stories were actually pretty good. Their gameplay... not so much, but the two of them actually got some character development in the game.

This video is what I've been saying for a long time now. I've noticed in more recent games, his character has become more reformed. He still fought for his future and the justice of others in Forces, but TSR showed his more fun and dorky side. I've been a Silver fan ever since I plaued 06 for the first time and I'm not dropping off anytime soon.

I think that Silver needs his own game so people and fans can see the side of Silver that everybody tends to forget, a game where he's the main focus of the game, but can have another characters to play such as Blaze. Also how can they not love Silver? He's probably one if not the most OP character in base form with his psychic powers, his design is really great, has potencial for a good backstory, his spines can look either as a pinneaple or as marihuana, and he's just a loveable dork. Plus, I think that the other friend that Silver could have is Espio, since they were partners in Rivals, then we can say that Silver onlly has serious purple friends.
