Silver has had a tough go of it since his first appearance in Sonic's 15th anniversary game back on the Xbox 360 and PS3, and faded into relative obscurity in the mainline game series until Sonic Forces. In this video we'll discuss the highs and lows for this straight talking, time traveling Hero. As well as what can be done to reboot this eternally optimistic Hedgehog in a future game! With Sonic's 30th anniversary coming up, I can think of no better time to show our friend Silver some love.

I love the idea of Silver and Shadow having a growing relationship. Shadow outgrew his rivalry with Sonic long ago and Silver gives him new opportunities to grow. Silver isn't just shy Sonic, he has a lot of baggage to deal with and I think Shadow would be able to understand that easily

Silver to me is a very interesting case of the Sonic cast. He debuted in a game that left a huge scar on the franchise that hasn’t left to this day despite it being a 15 year old game. Silver is a well-meaning optimist who is just naive and was just given misinformation that he believed would save his doomed world. He had a pretty good arc in 06 that’s been reduced to a part of a game SEGA’s doing everything in their power to bury. Silver is a good character who deserved so much better and shouldn’t be just inserted into stories for the sake of him being there. I also find it ridiculous that people give Silver flak for falling for Mephiles’ manipulation when Shadow literally did the SAME THING in his game a year prior.

I love how in SA2 it's such a big deal that Sonic was able to learn Chaos Control to the point that it becomes a turning point of respect for the characters Sonic and Shadow, then in 06 Silver just IMMEDIATELY figures it out hahaha.

I’ve said it for a while now but I’d love if they made a Silver game that took inspiration from Gravity Rush. That type of gameplay style would be perfect for him. Like imagine being able to fly around his world whilst also being able to travel to the past and seeing what that world looked like before.

Here's how I think they could make him part of the main cast. He finally saves the future for good and travels back to live his life but because the future is now changed no one knows who he is and all the friends he made are completely different people now. He's happy that the future is safe but decides he can't stay and travels back to the past and stays there with the new friends he's made

Silver is my favorite character due to how much we have in common. Too much in fact. Ever since his debut, I enjoyed him and his gameplay. I also adore his theme song. The lyrics are very passionate, and the song itself is Techno/Trance. My favorite music genre. If he got a game of his own, I'd be thrilled. Funnily enough, my favorite video game is Garry's Mod because I enjoy creating art and animation for fun. I love how Silver has gotten pretty popular as time has passed. Excellent video

Somehow you make me feel sympathy and actually appreciate these characters that have their identity mucked up by the quality of the games they are in. I'm certain a lot more characters in games could be better appreciated if we look at them more objectively, without their potentially bad game encapsulating them sullying them. It can be pretty hard with something like '06 for sure, with just how cringy the dialogue and such can be in that game, really a shame.

Man it's so cool to have someone give Silver the attention he deserves; he's legit one of my favorite characters and this vid did him justice. 🙏 Both his character and gameplay are just leaking with potential but SEGA just refuses to use him. (Plus I'm so GLAD you brought up how he fell for Mephiles, people get on to Silver for it so much without looking at it from his perspective. Like what would you do in his situation, kill a god for the rest of your life or attempt to kill one person to end it all?) Anyways, I would love if this new decade of sonic brings us more Silver content alongside exploring his relationship with Shadow and Blaze. You can see that Shadow realizes this naive kid has been through hell and back and wants to guide him on his own path rather than fall for Mephiles'. And as for Blaze, her big sister relationship with Silver couldve been fleshed out more but I still find it enjoyable. But anways, seeing lines from Gens where she mentions how familiar Crisis City is and how in JP Team Sonic Racing Sonic remembers Silver's lines from when he was about to kill him makes me really excited for more recognition of 06 and a possible salvaging of Silver's character.

I enjoyed this. I never owned Sonic 06; although I had been a fan of Sonic since the first on Genesis, I owned a Wii during this era. As such, I didn't know Silver. He didn't have much personality in the multiplayer of Secret Rings and I was downright offended that he was in the background of Green Hill Zone in Smash Bros Brawl, feeling he hadn't earned the right to be alongside Tails or Knuckles. However, recently, through the comics and Team Sonic Racing, I've come to know his awkward but well-meaning personality and I have to say...I really like him now.

While I'm glad to hear you appreciate his character, his characterization in Team Sonic Racing was... to be blunt, abysmal. He lacked ANY of the conviction, snark, and objective mindset that defined him in 06 and the Rivals games, and could barely hold a conversation with anyone (in the most childish way, immature way). The Archie comics (both before and after the reboot) handle his post-Rivals developmemt the best, imo. Even his appearances in the IDW comics, while charming, aren't always consistent with his core characterization in the older games. I.e. he's an understandably naive optimist, but he's NOT an emotionally stunted, incompetent child who lacks any sense of foresight and goes around asking people he doesn't know to be his friends (that may be a tiny bit exageatted, but my contempt for his modern mischaracterization won't allow me to reword it, lol). I mean, that comic had the audacity to have Eggman, EGGMAN of all people call him "melodramatic" during the one moment he finally started to act with seriousness and confidence. The audacious, ego driven world conquerer is trying to call Silver, the ONE character who's constantly carrying the weight his world's future in his hands when he travels back in time, "melodramatic." Just... ugh! 😣 To clarify, Silver has always been my favorite character, ever since his debut, so it really hurts to see him be flanderized or poorly written (though, he'sdefinitelynot alone in that department). Tldr, this is just me venting, lol.

They don't have to change the people of the city. Actually scratch that the problem was that the citizens were too realistic. Everything in 06 tried to be more realistic. (For example Eggman's robots) So either they give Sonic his movie design so they don't have to change the people. Or they change the people to be more cartoony like Unleashed.

Thank you for this! I'm glad for that someone else out there defended Siver's decision to go with Mephiles in his story. I probably would have done the same thing in his situation considering that just going back to what he was doing before wasn't solving the problem. From what I've seen, many people have an issue with him being completely blind to Mephiles' creepiness since even his more mundane appearance is off putting. Seriously, the guy has creepy looking eyes and no visible mouth. That alone should have been enough to set off red flags in his head. I think something that would have improved audience reception towards the character in his debut would have been for him to acknowledge Mephiles' creepiness. At least have Silver have a private conversation with Blaze or at least acknowledge to himself that Mephiles is creepy, but he feels that going along with Mephiles is the only way for him to have something of a chance of bringing genuine change to his world. Something interesting about this complaint I've also seen, is that people really don't blame Blaze when she makes the same decision that Silver did of going along with this. Then again, Blaze is treated very strangely in this game. Silver is the only person Blaze has actually dialogue with and he's the only one who ever acknowledges her presence in the game. That's a pretty big writing fumble in this game. There's also the case of Blaze's backstory. Oh my goodness! Blaze's backstory perhaps make her one of the most confusing characters in the Sonic franchise. Speaking of her backstory, there's something you need to understand about Sonic 06. Despite appearances to the contrary, this game is still canon. The events of this game were erased, but the events must have had to happen in the first place to even have been erased to begin with. If this game wasn't canon, Sega would just flat out pretend it didn't happen like the Game Gear games, Knuckles Chaotix, and Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood. If you ever do a video on Blaze or just her backstory in general, I would recommend going over the following sources. These have differing interpretations on explaining Blaze's presence in 06: This first source is a tumblr reblog that was originally written by jadiil. The original blog is empty now, but this reblog is quite informative on how 06 is still canon. It also goes with the interpretation that Blaze is originally from the future which is an interpretation I once agreed with but have doubts on. Still I would recommend you still read this. greenyvertekins.tumblr.com/post/175579850109/clearing-up-the-confusion-in-the-fanbase-regarding Another source I found interesting would be the video Sega Scourge did on Blaze in 06. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nqeygJ5qqcqgr9E&pbjreload=101 He goes with the idea that Blaze's backstory that she's from another dimension is still true even in 06's story. The evidence would lie in Blaze's clothing which still looks too nice to have if she always lived in an apocalyptic future, and being able to serve as a vessel for Iblis which 06 seems to indicate you have to be royalty to do so which further indicates that the backstory that she's a princess from an alternate dimension is still in play here. If you're thinking, "Then how did she get here to begin with?" Your guess is as good as mine. Maybe she got into an accident involving the Sol Emeralds which sent not only to another dimension, but in Silver's time as well. Maybe the Sol Emeralds sent Blaze to Silver since he likely be the one in the most desperate need of help. Another thing he highlight's is Blaze's fate in Silver's ending in the game. Sega Scourge believes that Blaze did not seal herself in another dimension in the game, but rather died instead. Ask yourself this, "If Blaze was just going to seal herself in another dimension, then why did she ask Silver to be the one to do it?" The answer is she couldn't do it herself. Blaze cannot perform Chaos Control. Since she only had a very short window of time, couldn't use Chaos Control herself, and Silver was too reluctant to perform the act, Blaze was left with only one option: death. Blaze destroyed herself down to the molecule. She had to be so thorough with her own destruction since Iblis' regenerative abilities make him incredibly difficult to permanently defeat. The way she fades out out of the world made it look like she was transferring herself to a different dimension than dying. Also, from out of universe stand point, a more graphic death would not fit the tone of the series and would bump the rating up to a level Sega would not be comfortable. The death had to be portrayed more artistically and beautifully. If you go with this interpretation, it would actually explain why Blaze is in an alternate dimension in the other Sonic games. Since Solaris was erased from existence, there is no Iblis, and thus no threat large enough to threaten multiple dimensions, and the Sol Emeralds didn't see a need to send her to Silver's time. Lastly, if you want to analyze the stories of Sonic 06 and other games in the series. Please, analyze the Japanese versions of the stories and definitely not English ones. The English dub stories all suffer from poor localization resulting in the video game equivalent of a clunky anime dub. Silver really needs more love. I haven't played 06 and have no intention to, but Silver's (and Shadow's but this isn't about him) story was always at least decent to me. Not only is he just a confused and inexperienced kid with a lot on his shoulders who feels he can't afford to screw this up, he's someone with a fresh perspective on literally everything in Sonic's 'verse. His comments on just how beautiful the past is always stood out to me; you can practically _feel_ his sense of wonder going through the roof. We take all this stuff for granted, but all Silver has known is a burning cityscape full of pain and misery. It sometimes makes me wonder, "Silver, why don't you stay in the past and be happy?" But we know why. He wants to help make a better future, and that kind of character is really admirable in my opinion. Silver is a good boi and I love him. I wish more people did. He _deserves_ it.

This person who you just met (although nice) wants to kill one of your friends, and says that it will save the world. I also thought Silver was a great character who didn't deserve to be hated so much like with Amy. But since plenty of KZbinrs and "critics" like to hold 06 constantly over the heads of Sonic fans and SEGA, I actually would like it if Sonic 06 got the Final Fantasy remake treatment or better, and got everything fixed and written better. Plus, this game already feels like Sonic Adventure 3, so why not completely fix 06 and make the story better to truly make it Adventure 3? But with the humans cartoony again like in Unleashed and the first two Adventure games of course. I would like to have Sonic's story better written, explore Silver and Blaze's relationship more, how Blaze came to be in Silver's future, and all sorts of stuff. But no romance with Sonic and Elise of course, just keep her as a friend. Though the unexplored plot point of her mistaking Sonic for Silver in the beginning should be explored too. You're also very right about the double standard Silver is facing with Knuckles and Shadow, and how he's actually from a very bleak future too. I honestly would change the game's ending a bit to include the rest of the characters present in the last story, and have both Sonic and Silver convince Elise to erase Solaris's physical form too. Plus, one theory on how Silver and Blaze's story is pretty much like the Tanabata festival is a pretty good one to me. And another theory on how both Rivals and Rush come after 06 too. I just hope 06 can get such a redux/remake with all the cut elements that would have made the game even better in the future. Maybe bundled together with other Sonic 3D remakes/remasters so it could get a chance to shine alongside them too.

Ahhh you talked about Silver and Shadow's relationship! It's one of the many things that's often skirted over in Sonic since this point. It's really sad :( So many of the amazing ideas from the other Sonic games that were BEGGING to be expanded upon (reminder every single Sonic game was an expansion from the last up until SA2/Arguably 06 if you count Heroes and Shadow with a gun (2005), sense although they were technically 'squeals' they didn't really expand like how all the other games did and dropped a lot of important stuff), and then after Sonic Adventure 2 it was dropped and it's impossible to find fan content where people notice the loose ends and try to add more.

My second favorite character behind Mighty. As for how I'd like Silver to be used in future games, keep his role as a time traveller and let him team up with Shadow & Mighty. Regarding Mighty, he would be the guardian of Onyx Island (the "Angel Island" in Silver's timeline). Since Knuckles was supposed to be the last of his kind, I'm okay with the idea of Mighty fulfilling that role. Eggman Nega can be a reoccurring antagonist for Silver whenever his timeline is in danger. Shadow, Silver, & Mighty would form their own team (Team Future). Shadow as the Speed-type member, Silver as the Fly-type member, & Mighty as the Power-type member. Shadow nominates Silver as official agent of G.U.N. so they can go on their own missions together. Mighty would be busy protecting the Master Emerald in Silver's timeline, so Shadow and Silver are the only characters that can temporarily leave and return to the future as they please. Even though Mighty is a character that's exclusive to the classic era cast, I felt like it would be pretty neat to see how Mighty could be incorporated in the modern era cast. Also, the idea of a character from the future (Silver) interacting with a character from the past (Mighty) is too good of an opportunity to pass up. While this last part might seem cliché, it would be pretty funny to see Shadow & Mighty have a rivalry over Silver's affection. The Shadow in Silver's timeline isn't much of a "romance" type of character at first, but he starts to open up more when he's hanging out with Silver. Mighty never had an official love interest, so it would be normal for him to have feelings towards Silver. Silver only views Blaze as a "big sister figure" like you said, so it's impossible for those two to be a couple. In terms of Silver's love life, the more logical choice is pairing him up with someone from the future and NOT from the Sol Dimension.

When Blaze's origin story got retconned in 06 (originating from the future), I pretty much had the same concept for Mighty. I would love to see fans make some fanart of Mighty with futuristic attire. Both Silver & Mighty deserve more recognition.

My first initial option for writing for Silver is to keep him in the present once his mission is complete so I don't have to come up with reasons for him to keep coming back to the past. I will have some rule that the quantum causality will correct itself if he decides to go back to the point in time he came from, changing him to how he would exist if he grew up in this new timeline and he would want to stay in the past present knowing this so he won't forget what he has learned. This way he can still have his continuity from the previous games and he can have friendships with the other characters.

You really captured everything that I love about Silver. Even with the game having a bad rep, I never let that define how I saw him. Going in depth as to why he trusted Mephiles, his determination, and hopeful nature despite never really having a reason to believe in hope. He has so much potential as a character and a player. He's definitely the one I want to see more of and explore more. I don't know when SEGA will give Silver a proper role in a game again, so for now I turn to the IDW comics. Silver may be more optimistic and occasionally sillier than he was in the games, but I see this as Silver letting down his defenses and able to enjoy a life with friends and a beautiful world he never had. It also still shows how powerful Silver can be when he tries.

A lot of people had compared Silver to Trunks from the Dragonball Z series, but I see Silver as more like the male hedgehog version of Renet from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles time arc. A novice time-traveler (or possible time traveler apprentice) who tries to fix any wrong doings in the time periods, gets help from our current heroes, becomes a friend of theirs; and although goes back own time, will occasionally show up in the past to help out the heroes. I don't think Silver is bad, he's origin just needs a reboot.

I'm glad you clarified the difference between Silver and Knuckles. When I first saw him I thought he was just another stubborn mislead anti hero (Knuckles, Shadow, Blaze, Chaos) only with a bland personality. Overtime he grew on me though and I've noticed when he isn't blinded by a narrow minded goal, he's actually a pretty wholesome character. Ian Flynn's depiction of him in Archie and IDW comics is near perfect. He describes him as "an adorkable cinnamon roll who though awkward, is idealistic and never gives up." He heavily leans on that aspect of him making him a much more distinct character. The only thing I don't quite agree on is Silver being an extrovert. He might be friendly, but he seems too socially reserved and introspective to be extroverted. I do agree that him and Shadow should interact more as well. They almost had a cynical/cool big brother vs positive/dorky little brother dynamic.

His extrovert side primarily lines in his naivety. If he thinks something he just says it, he doesn’t generally keep his thoughts to himself, even if his opinion is weird or unpopular. He’s by no means socially competent, but he speaks his mind. This may be different in the Archie comics but I’m speaking mostly about the games.

I never had much experience of Silver having barely played 06 on release. But this video really makes me want to go back and force myself to play through it and that Silver gets treated better in the future. Great video, keep up the good work.

I've always been fascinated by how game series handled the concept of time travel, as well as the travellers themselves, and Silver was no exception when I first saw him in the Olympics. He's like a reverse Rosalina where instead of having a "depth through backstory" character in a good game (ironically one about space, at that), he's a character with good *current* character arc in what is unfortunately an overall terrible game (as much as I don't like that it is, given that again time travel in fiction is always fascinating imo). Watching 06's cutscenes, Silver's moments were arguably some of the best imo: most of them didn't have much to do with what people call "cringe" (mainly the entire thing surrounding Elise until the part where Silver and Shadow go to the past to find out Iblis's true origin, and even that wasn't that bad in and of itself), and it shows a progression of someone that was simply too overzealous into a hero with a more objective moral compass willing to understand others's points of view without losing sight of what he went back in time for; at this point he was really only catching flak for being a time traveller in a Sonic game (which... I mean, Mario [& Luigi] did it, Pokemon [Mystery Dungeon] did it, Fire Emblem did it... time travel is just another trope that's harmless by itself, so giving him flak for that is kinda stupid). If Silver were to make an actual meaningful comeback, I'd hope he's the only character whose progression from 06 is actually retained. "I'm a realist but I'm also an optimist" may be a funny meme, but it's still far from accurate to his progression, and in Forces he otherwise kinda just existed with no real reason for being there (seriously even Aaron Webber's comments on the script were like "why?!"), which makes it moot imo since doing little means he might as well have as much of a presence there as Blaze or Cream... who straightup aren't in the game.

I already liked Silver and would REALLY like to see him be used as more than a cameo (once Sega starts letting characters other than Sonic be playable again), but your analysis of his character touched on points I hadn't even noticed or considered. This is awesome work, and thank you for it. ^^ Anyways, I'd definitely love for silver to return, preferably in a playable role, but in terms of "how" and "why", I'd really like them to use him to resolve the issue of Eggman Nega. You mentioned the Sonic Rivals games where Silver was also playable, and part of his backstory for those games was that he was basically the "Sonic" of the future, fighting against Eggman's descendant, Nega, who had gone to the past and forcibly taken over Eggman's operation. However, this isn't the first time Nega's shown up - he also appeared in the Sonic Rush series, again as an antagonist, but as the Eggman to BLAZE's Sonic, and both of them being from another dimension rather than just the future. Furthermore, this Nega was far more willing to work with his contemporary counterpart, neither ever betraying the other. Neither depiction of Nega ever acknowledges their enemy from the alternate set of games, and between that, their different methods, attitudes towards Eggman, and BACKSTORIES, they're practically two different characters. So I'd love it if they actually were, with both Negas showing up in Sonic's era/dimension, and their corresponding rivals appearing and teaming up together due to confusion over the two Negas. Could even make a trio out of Blaze, Silver, and Marine, and maybe redeem the latter two in the eyes of the fans. Maybe. Not very likely, but I wish they'd give it a try at least.

I think silver is a realist of his own. In 06, he was doubting if he ever defeat iblis. He said that what's the point of all this? It will never end. I like to imagine that his boss line "it's no use!" was a way of showing his despair and realism that he doesn't want others to have or know but him and his foes. While he gets his optimism side thanks to the goodness & gratitude he receives in his life, making him the optimist that we all know and love.

This is why I think Sonic Adventure 3 should be a retelling of Sonic 06 I think this game had a lot of potential especially with Silver. I just find it weird that Silver is in Sonic games even though 06 was retconned. So I think this could be a great opportunity as people want SA3 and we wanted 06 to be, well, good. It's because Silver's first canonical appearance is in Sonic Rivals. Sonic 06 was supposed to be a reboot of the entire series, but since it failed so miserably (to critics anyway), SEGA decided to just completely retcon the entire game.

I agree with you, with how everyone wants both SA3 and 06 to be better with all its wasted potential, I think that could be a good way to kill two birds with one stone so to say. Plus, Silver's characterization was already pretty good, even with how bad 06 went, and Shadow actually had a good story as well. Maybe if Maekawa can come back after remakes of Adventure 1 and 2, we could possibly get a proper Sonic 06 remake/retelling with a team similar to Sonic Mania, but for 3D. I just hope Maekawa can be able to work together with such a team for the writing also. No Sonic and Elise romance also, just keep them as friends. But since she mistook Sonic for Silver at first, maybe explore that a bit as well instead of leaving it going nowhere. Plus, we need to explain Blaze's presence in the game, develop her relationship with Silver some more, and maybe further the Tanabata festival legends reference for when Blaze became Burning Blaze just before being sealed into the Sol Dimension with Iblis. I'm posting a second comment after watching the full video and to fully express my thoughts on Silver. I love Silver.🤍 I think the reason people hate him is mainly because of his so called terrible controls, (personally I thought they were alright) terrible boss (unless you know how to beat it I can see why you do) and personality that just makes him act stupid........and that is just a terrible reason! Everything you said in this video perfectly captures what I think of Silver's character and personality. He's just so naive but he grows out of it. At the beginning of his story he starts losing hope because no matter how many times he beats Iblis he just keeps coming back but by the end of the game when everyone loses hope he doesn't give up becuase of everything he experienced during he's journey back in time. Also yeah after watching this video I just realised that Silver just straight up gives into the fact that Sonic is dead in Sonic Forces and he sounds very casual unlike last time when he doesn't admit he's dead, hopefully the next game delivers better writing for the characters especially Shadow he probably needs it the most. So with that being said and done all I have to say is I love you Silver the hedgehog, we all do.🤍🦔❤

Great vid!! I felt like I really understood Silver’s character through this. I’ve always interacted with the Sonic fandom through fan content over the actual games. A lot of stuff depicted him as incredibly naive and borderline dumb. I’ve been trying to dive headfirst into years worth of content so vids like this have been so helpful for me. That's always been my issue with Silver. Sega has no idea what to do with the character and every game he appears in just seems forced and as a result takes away from other characters. Trying to force a connection with Blaze messed up her back story and where she fits in the sonic Canon, trying to force Silver into the plot rivals messed up Eggman nega place in the games and now we have no idea if he from the future or not, and now a days whenever there's a team based game silver is forced into team dynamics he shouldn't be like him teaming up with Espio in rivals 2 or Blaze and Vector in team sonic racing. If it was up to me I would 1) Establish which future Silver hails from. Is he from sonic dimension future or Blaze dimension future 2) Give silver his own group of friends, primarily one or two characters that travel through time to accompany him so he isn't always forced to team up with Blaze or the choatix In my opinion, silver needs his own spin off that details his new origins and go from there. Sega should just make it so silver and his two friends job is to protect time from Eggman nega and just have them follow Eggman nega through time to stop his plans, and only Eggman nega. No need to have silver facing Eggman or anything like that, leave that up to sonic and friends. Unless Eggman Nega is involved in some way, silver shouldn't be in the past in my opinion.

I remember post SGW archie gave silver a couple friends in gold the tenrec and professor von schlemmer, it'd be cool if they got adapted into the games. you could even rework venice the mink (silver's old concept) into a character from silver's future. While I agree, with most of what was said here, I actually really enjoyed his dynamic with Blaze and Espio. Both feel organic, but with the latter especially (since we actually got to SEE their relationship evolve), it's interesting how it doesn't start off smoothly. Silver and Espio are initially very suspicious of eachother, and Silver isn't immediately asking for his help. He moreso just wants information, or for the Chameloen to get out of his way. But as the story progressed, and Espio grew to understand the sheer importance of Silver's mission, he becomes a reliable partner to the hedgehog, and sticks by him through the end. Even when Silver almost lost hope, Espio was there to pick him up, which was very interesting to see for an normal optimistic person like Silver. By the end, Silver and Espio part ways with a genuine friendship between them. I dunno, I think it was pretty nicely written.

If Silver comes back, I want Sega to look at Jesse Faden from Control for some ideas to make his gameplay more fun. Having flight not consume the same energy as the objects you carry around is great in Control. I also want a confirmed backstory for him. Silver, Blaze, and Eggman Nega are all very, very weird due to of Rivals, Rush, and 06 being incompatible.

What really bothers me is that despite loneliness seeming to be Silver's greatest fear (he feared loosing his friend more than his own death) the writers still keep having him go off to the future instead of staying with his friends. Silver should still care deeply about protecting the future to make sure no one suffers like he does, but stay with his friends either in the past or in Blaze's dimension.

I wouldn't have expected Silver to be your next character analysis, but definitely an interesting one! I only ever bothered to finish Sonic 06 as Sonic, & didn't even finish Kingdom Valley in Silver's story. I found him unbearable to play as & that was the end of me caring about him, I didn't want to give him a chance after that, after all, it's not like it matters. Sonic 06 removes itself from the timeline in its final ending anyway, so why waste my time? It's a shame he didn't get better, as it seems like he's actually quite a good character in his own right. I wish he wasn't a hedgehog though. I know that might be a weird complaint, but I'd really prefer them to not add any more hedgehogs. The only reason he's a hedgehog is because the series main protagonist is, not because it makes any sense for his character or his abilities & it ultimately means that he just exists in reference to Sonic, much like Shadow & Amy do, rather than standing on his own. It probably played into me hating how slow he is, considering the other two playable hedgehogs are both known for being fast, I guess I'm just conditioned to expect speed from male hedgehogs in this universe! I would say it'd be nice to see him get a second chance, but I've always felt both Shadow & Silver should have remained exclusive to their debut titles. Shoving them into every game they can just for the sake of it really damages their character, in my opinion.

Oh, also, I really hope you get around to Blaze at some point! 06 really confused me with Blaze. It retcons her being the princess of a parallel world, now being from the future instead, the Sol Emeralds I guess don't exist as a result of her world no longer being a thing, but she reacts to the mentioning of a blue hedgehog, as if she knows Sonic. So, did Sonic Rush happen in this timeline or not? But then, if it did & she DOES know Sonic, why does she never mention that to Silver & blindly goes along with his plan to murder him? And then after 06, there was a sequel to Sonic Rush where that timeline is re-established & she is once again a princess in a parallel world! As if the Sonic timeline doesn't have enough splits as it is, I have absolutely no idea what Blaze is supposed to be now & it sucks, because she was good & I liked her & why do Sonic Team have to keep ruining good things?! @@AceCardGaming I only remember playing the stories of the Rush games once, with most of my playtime going into replaying the levels I liked best, trying to beat my best times, which is always one of my favourite parts of a good Sonic game! But I find myself not really knowing how Blaze & Silver actually know Sonic now. The canonicity of both of their origins seem to be questionable at best, so I have no idea where the canonically met in whatever the hell the current story is. I've never played Rivals due to never owning a PSP, so I've got no idea what happens there, maybe I'm missing something big from that story. In regards to Silver, it's a shame, because I feel I was kinda robbed of a decent character, because of how unenjoyable I found his gameplay & I still don't know how they managed to make what are essentially Force powers unenjoyable, but there you go, such is the magnificent prowess of Sonic Team, I guess!

The game was completely rushed and patched together to make their release window. Sega wanted a Sonic game on the new generation of consoles to mark Sonic’s 15th anniversary by any means necessary. Sonic Team by all accounts had to just slap some bumper stickers on it and get it out the door. Just on the note of your comments on Silver being a hedgehog, he was actually originally going to be a mink, but they thought a hedgehog would suit the universe better. I don’t mind him as a hedgehog but just thought I’d share that useless trivia with you! 😅

In a perfect world (for me), I’d have the team behind Sonic Adventure 2, most of which were involved in 06 but I guess that just means I’d love Yuji Naka to come back. You could make a case for writers from Archie/IDW/Fleetway but I’m not sure how transferable that type of writing would be. But if I’m honest I’d be just open to new writers who actually played and understood the older games.

I like "Sonic 06", I think that the story in this game is amazing, interesting and pretty adult. And Silver is still my favorite character, despite the fact what is happening with his character in recent games. I really hope that Silver is appearing in a future games with personality traits similar to his in "Sonic 06". And I too not not have troubles with him easily believed to Mephiles. This case is not about only naivety, when you are desperately looking for answers, you will believe to every person who knows these answers. @@AceCardGaming Its not a bad wee game. I'd say its better than the first, as I did play through Sonic's campaign on that first. Both in terms of gameplay, plus we now have voice acting for the story! I was pretty surprised as well to see Tails being allowed to stand up and fight back against Silver, after what happened in Forces with him being stuck looking weak as not to undermine Classic's inclusion. I wonder if the thought was if Tails looks capable, in Force, why would Classic need to be there? But then I remembered Rivals was from a different time, meaning Tails didn't need to worry about having try and put over any bad tribute acts here and was actually allowed to stand as equal beside Sonic.

I think you should've also taken both rival games into account as well seeing as Silver shows his personality in them as well not just 06 even though 06 is one of the main games people recognize him from it would be fair to analyse him in all games even in TSR which some people actually say they've ruined him

In what way, if I may ask? From what I've read, he's been drastically nerfed, and treated as incompetent by several of the characters. I'm looking at you Eggman and Tails 😠 Also, his strangely childish and non serious demeanor (when he's emotionally stunted, and constantly doubts his contributions to conversations) feels really.. bizarre. Especially when comparing it to 06 or the Rivals games (which I feel handle him the best by far). Like, yeah he was always a bit naive, but he never acted like a kid who doesn't know what he's talking about half the time. The harrowing circumstances of his position in the world gave him a MUCH more mature personality; that's part of why he's so hyper focused on his missions in the older games.

Dreams of absolutely-right-analysis...tion...lol Jokes aside, poor Silver got a bumpy start and people hated him. What I'd like is for him to be Reintroduced in a way that made him coming back to Sonic's time other than "the future's in danger we have to save it" bit. Also looking at this made me remember just how much optimism Silver has. That's what kept him going even when things looked bleak. Let's hope they give him a good part from here on out

While I agree, they need to better characterize Silver, his whole character _comes_ from the future (it's what his defining character traits were originally built around), and him abandoning it in any way would feel contradictive to who he is. Wouldn't it? 🤔

​@@DLxxx What if they did something like a reboot of 06. Not like a remaster or a remake, but more like a reboot? They could more or less tell the same story, but tell it in a different way? I would say, keep Shadow and Silver's story intact for the most part, and tweak up Sonic's story so it actually feels impactful rather than saving Elise over and over. Or better yet, retcon the colors (meta) era and remake SA1 and 2 and make SA3 . I would rework and combine the stories from Heroes, Shadow, and 06 and use that for the material. And No, I don’t mean combine everything into one game, but enhance on what made it good, and trim out the bad stuff. I know it sounds too ambitious and crazy, but if done right and if they work on the gameplay and improve if not perfect it, then it might work.

I was always confuse on when is 06 supposed to take place, thinking it was its own continuity with all the characters just there. Is the same earth after shadow the hedgehog? With gun and all the adventue stuff?

'Ace, I do like your idea of Shadow being a mentor of sorts to Silver; for a story. For a game on that? I'm not sure... Now for a video game title: I can picture a 2d** Puzzle, (spin-OFF) game.... Where you play as Silver who can move blocks around. ▪Silver falls through a hole in space in _his future time_ *and* is found by a group of Scientists and... It almost feels weird that they kept Silver. He's never been anything like how he was in Sonic 06, yet Sega keeps including him as super bland and pretends like Sonic 06 doesn't exist at the same time.

Facts!! Silver has always been my favorite since his debut, and I'd really rather they not use him past Generations if he's just going to be characterized as this bland, inconsistent, one note character.

My only gripes with Silver is the time travel plot holes he brings everytime he shows up and that he uses the chaos emeralds to do it, which furthers the idea that they can just do anything the writers need them them do. (Sometimes he doesn't even have an explained method on how he does time travel and that's bad too.) Also he shows up when the plot doesn't really need him, but to be fair a lot of Sonic characters are just there and don't get to do much. He keeps coming back to the future and then going back to a good future until the next sonic game where it apparently gets doomed again by Eggman's latest scheme. It doesn't make sense. These are all easy fixes though just have everytime he goes back to his future when everything is done it's screwed up in some new way. That way he has a reason to keep coming back. Also have him use the time stones. They're an established time travel device so it wouldn't be just giving the chaos emeralds time travel abilities out of nowhere like in 06. Plus we haven't seen them since CD. You could even have a story where Silver has to collect all of them again each time he wants to travel back. Which explains why it could take a while before we see him again if he isn't in the last game, but shows up in the next he can't just pop up in a flash whenever he wants he has to go on a time stone hunt first.

I also don't like how Blaze is tied to his story. I don't mind the two being friends, but it muddled her own already established backstory of being a princess from a different dimension. Besides that I really do like Silver he has a really nice design he has telekinesis which is sick and he's a ridiculously optimistic person who despite all the odds still marches on to a better future he doesn't get to see, but he's determined to make happen. He has a lot of potential and I think he could be rebooted and made into a great character. With his own stories about adapting to new futures everytime he goes back, meeting other survivors that may not always be in the next future he returns to and even being amazed by the past!

Oooh you could even have him have to piece together how the future got currently messed up so he knows when in the timeline he has to go back to! That way he doesn't go too far back or wastes the time stones on a trip that ends up with him too far ahead of the disaster. It'd give us the opportunity to interact with the future more and the people in it we'd see how it gets changed with each trip and we'd become more attached to it and more invested in seeing Silver finally fix it. There's so many cool things thst could be done with Silver's character and his concept!

Treating it as the same universe to an extent but none of the prior game's stories actually mattered and retconning Shadow's whole character arch from finding his own place to belong with Team Dark and overcoming his past to just being an angsty loner again.

While I take your point, SA2 is still canon strictly speaking. And besides being ignored, hasn’t been retconned. But Shadow is another character who is extremely damaged compared to his earlier self so the point still stands. When you ignore the characters origins, when that is what made them successful, it just makes no sense.

Here's my evil hedgehog character named Sapphire the hedgehog he's like shadow and silver if they are togeter as one i call it A Trible S team becose sapphire starts with s too and sapphire is 24 years old in games but he acts like childlike teenager. Here a details about sapphire the hedgehog he has hypnodic powers using his eyes, arms and hands, he has wizerd powers so he can make spales and magic to hower like silver, he has oringe eyes to look him despicible, his spike hairstyle is shape of triangle becose he has three spikes in three corners on his head and tips of his spikes and ears are shiny blue color and thats is why hes named sapphire, hes red-purple like my avatar hes chest fur is all over his chest and his chest fur is glittery, he has black shoes with golden chain to look a bad boy, his catch frase are is "you will see" everytime he hypnoses someone, he cacles very grincely and he wispers very creepely, hes comes from fantasyworld and he has marecat or mongus sibekick name Fails becose he or she has one eye scard to blind and her or his color is green. Does anyone REALY want to see Sapphire the hedgehog and Fails the marecat or mongus on sonic's 30th anivorsery becose i REALY want to see them in action and in upcoming netflic show ? it's sad he was introduced in a bad time since his character and story is impressive but made him just there bcuz Sega doesn't want to bring up 06 and it doesn't help that some diehard fans and critics make it worse by bring it up and make Sega doubt even more to get creative and become more restricted. sliver deserved so much better.
