I'm a Singaporean and I generally like the videos in this channel including this one, which is an accurate analysis of Singapore's foreign policy. However, the click-baity final remark of 'drinking pee' is just a cheeky attempt to promote their Nebula site. In Singapore we purify water through reverse osmosis and it is 100% safe and even better than the tap water from some countries.

Me and my friends constantly called NEWater, "toilet-bowl juice". Everyone absolutely made fun of it, but it isn't really an issue since NEWater is mixed with both the imported water from Johore and our local reservoirs, so the distinct 'taste' of the heavily processed water is no longer present. Slight error around 4:50 "Protests are allowed without Police Permission only in a single area of one public park, called the Speaker's Corner" Protests are ONLY allowed in a single area of one public park, called the Speaker's Corner, WITH POLICE PERMISSION. It sounds authoritarian, but when diplomacy is the cornerstone of your country's strategy for survival, such extreme measures become necessary for survival. You can't have a certain political party organizing a "Fuck India, Fuck CECA, send them all home" rally, as the Singapore Government will then have to make one of two controversial moves: Crack down on said party (which the majority of Singaporeans see as a meme), or double down on its commitment to CECA, which is politically unfavourable in a recession. That isn't to say that any form of protest against the government isn't allowed. In our previous election (2016), fringe opposition political candidates held a "Return our CPF" rally, which was basically asking for the government to abolish our pseudo-sovereign wealth fund. Pink Dot, our main LGBT movement in Singapore, also holds rallies every year, with the latest one literally calling for the repeal of the main anti-gay law. Anti-government protests are allowed, they just have to be registered as a buffer against geopolitical consequences, and so the appropriate security can be provided. Since this was discussed in the context of the 2018 NK-US summit, I thought it might be interesting to add this article here, where a woman was arrested for illegal protests, Had this protest gained sufficient traction, it could have had geopolitical consequences on the summit. As Polymatter mentioned, Singapore's willingness to crack down on such protests, despite the authoritarian image it presents, is precisely why Singapore was chosen to host the summit. www.channelnewsasia.com/news/singapore/trump-kim-south-korean-women-protests-arrested-near-st-regis-10424296 Before the PAP or Opp IBs reply, I'll only respond to polymatter. @@60ritikanand69 CECA - Comprehensive Economic Co-oporation Agreement - which allowed more native Indians (as opposed to Indians born in Singapore whose ancestors had migrated from India centuries earlier) to work in Singapore. It's become more of a political hot potato I believe recently as it has been regarded as increasing competition in Singapore's employment market, with suspicion that native Indians might have gained employment via more under-handed means e.g. the employer being a native Indian and being more familiar with their own countrymen/women when hiring. There was an incident in Oct/Nov 2019 of an Indian scolding a security guard (who was enforcing a regulation in the condominium that they were in) that worsened the sentiment against them as well I think

I remember the Speaker's Corner is the only place where demonstrations don't need a police permit; other places do & I've never heard of one being granted before. Probably as part of upholding the country's diplomatic neutrality policy, law enforcement has taken punitive action in the past e.g. arresting some political activists in early 2015 who organised a Skype call with HK pro-democracy activists, deporting Malaysians who held a candlelight vigil outside The Fullerton in 2013 to protest alleged irregularities in Malaysia's legislative elections that year.

For everyone else not heading to that nebula video, it needs to be said that Singaporeans don't drink pee, not directly at least. Sewage is thoroughly treated, through reverse-osmosis and UV disinfection, to produce ultra-purified water. Due to its purity, this NEWater is mainly used by industrial entities for their operations (e.g. semiconductor/water production). NEWater is never directly supplied to our taps but is channelled into some of the island's 17 reservoirs, where it is mixed with the rainwater collected. It will then go through another round of purification, less stringent than NEWater purification, before it comes out of the drinking taps. So I'm not too sure why people are saying it tastes weird, unless they've tried the bottled ones.

For those who want to know, the drinking pee part is Singapore's water treatment system cleaning our faeces to be drinkable water, saving tons and as an alternative to our water supply from Malaysia, which they are so very eager to end the contract with Singapore quickly. It's called NEWater

2:35 Yeah, we're not much neutral as we are turning a blind eye to things. During WWII we apparantly let the Nazis use our railways to discretely transport troops to the north of Norway. The geography of Norway made it easier for the Nazis to go by rail through Sweden. This to avoid being formally invaded by the Nazis.

I'm very impressed with the FACT based content of this video. Everything you mentioned about Singapore and it's relations with China and the US is spot on. You have thoroughly researched the historical and current realities regarding Singapore. No political agendas, biases or slants, just FACTS. Err, except for the 'drinking pee' part of it. It's purified grey water called 'Newater'. Water scarce Singapore is a global leader in potable water management and desalination.

for now...you can't stay neutral for long. Singapore is like the Tyrells in GoT. They stay neutral and not take sides and exploit any opportunities they can without dirtying their hands. but we all know there will come a point where they have to take sides.
