If the music video clip at the beginning felt a little off, that's because it had to be dramatically altered for fear of getting demonetized by KZbin. In addition to the bonus video, the Nebula version of this video has my original uncut vision of that intro. I never want to be forced to censor my content and don't want you to feel like you're getting a "lesser" version of the video on KZbin, but the truth is that KZbin has forced me. I hope you understand and if you have Nebula, I hope you'll watch the full version there. Thanks and hope you enjoy this end to the series! -Evan

I think out of all the speculation, we gotta go with Occam’s Razor. China has become so inflammatory in its rhetoric because simply, it’s leader changed and so did their policies. Deng Xiaoping was actively trying to open the country up and of course, had to show that China was now approachable. Jiang Zemin and Hu Jintao pursued a policy of non-confrontation and thus, had appeased the West. Xi is a nationalist, thus China has become nationalist with him, enough said. A major issue with looking at China is how many people view the Communist Party Administration as a contiguous entity, when its changes through the last couple of decades might as well make it seperate governments.

Let's understand something in context: this generation of Chinese leaders experienced their youth during one of the most chaotic events in modern Chinese history - the Cultural Revolution. As many of us who've grown up know, youth is the time to be learning about how to properly engage with respective audiences (e.g. understanding that talking to our friends is not the same as talking to our bosses). Well, this generation didn't have those lessons drilled into them during those years. Instead, what did they learn at that time? To take pride in their country, Chairman Mao, etc., and to call out or make an example of anyone who says or does anything that can be perceived as going against that grain. Now that they've ascended to positions of power, we're seeing those unlearned lessons play out in much more impactful ways.

@@spamham5979 Xi's family got purged during this time, his father got public humiliation, her sister killed herself and himself was forced to work in the countrysides. It was a crazy period when China was the enemy of the 2 superpowers which both threatened to nuke them, the Chinese youth were raised to be prepared for WW3, so it's nothing for them to hurt relations by responding against western aggressions since they have survived the times when both the capitalist bloc and communist bloc wanted their deaths. Actually, countries like Russia, Iran and Serbia are happy about that and see this as an opportunity to get revenge from the USA, they are also acting more confidently.

So when you ask more they will say "oh, you will never understand these and that" "oh, Chinese culture is very deep beyond other civilization's understanding" in this case "it cannot be translated", sometimes it is true but most of the time it is what it is. The purpose is to confuse the enemy, and there are different levels of confusion, yet i don't think you can do more in translation for this quote. this abandonment of soft power abroad is idiotic. This is actually the perfect time for China to adopt a friendly attitude when US reputation abroad is in tatters. That way China could hold sway to its neighboring countries like the South East and East Asian countries and create a strong bloc to remove US dominance on the Asian continent. and by being the dominant and benevolent power (at least regionally), it is inevitably raise its status both domestically and internationally.

You are correct on it but I think Beijing missed the timing due to internal issues. When Beijing Biden took over WH; it truly was the best time to make peace instead of doubling down on expansionist policy while breaking yet more trade agreements with the US~etc. It fact it has gotten even worse... since they saw some opportunity to overcome even the US at that time... with US's uncoordinated withdrawal from Afganastan, Burma's successful military coup (Beijing was supporting supply/coordination and now even giving them submarines...) and democracy countries can't really do much about countries that outright rigged their election by detaining challengers (e.g Belarus, Venezuela Nicaragua etc... sanction can't be the only solution) Needless to say; I felt Washington was only trying to make Xi step down to restore the past relationship w/o fixing many of the rooted problems which didn't work out. The people at large probably won't be satisfied with that. I am somewhat concerned if Russia will end up annexing part of China "Again" like the past during the Chinese Civil War, World War etc... Japan abandoned its military was able to recover well despite being the only country that was nuked during WW. Their pacifism stance is/was the oldest policy that remain unchanged since the WW and Japan greatly benefited from it. 1) Other nation's citizens don't see Japan as a threat anymore (excluding mainland communist-china and Korea)... Japan's greatest soft power was their gaming & animation LOL. Ps. benevolent + Beijing don't mix well. US's reputation had fallen but so had the credibility of China due to Beijing's actions and numerous broken promises. Both sides will have difficulty restoring them so I am actually more interested to see how the other 3-9th global power will react. USA was the undisputed global dominant power which was able to dominate its benevolence towards China... for it was the only country that redirects all war-reparation fees to free education for the Chinese in USA after War and despite its dominance... didn't try to do land grab like the former European power, USSR/Russia/etc. That clearly isn't something China is capable of when it has already unofficially annexed so many lands from other neighboring countries and even provided weapons to Burma's military who started a coup killing thousands of civilians. Beijing is no longer the welcoming China it once was under Den's leadership =/ May he rest in peace and not see the present-day China.

Vietnam had about 2 millions dead from starvation as a result of Japan's occupation. Vietnam is a close friend of Japan and it also works closely with its former enemy, the US, to build constructive relations. Other Asian countries look more to the present and future and not delve into the past. The enemy today can be a friend tomorrow and vice versa. When one keeps condemning another (especially not directly responsible) of the past, things usual don't end well and without constructive results. That's human nature. Japan today is not the Japan of the past. Similarly with Germany. With China, it's more about the relentless anti-Japan propaganda, dispute in the East Sea, and the broad range of human rights violations. For S. Korea, it's more to do with the opening of old wounds and grievances and the boycotting of Japan.

@@MA_KA_PA_TIE There really isn't a good generalization. I think there are a few camps in the US. 1. Many expats feel more strongly associated with their country after leaving China, since their "Chinese-ness" becomes a more defining trait when they are outside China. Thus, they tend to rally around national symbols in order to support their own sense of self worth. Whether this extends to supporting Xi varies from person to person. Some support him begrudgingly since he just happens to be the leader and they don't really question it too much. Others genuinely like him due to his hardline stance. It's like in this video, his defiance of western nations comes across as showing how strong China is, and I guess that translates to a sense of self worth as well. 2. A few, particularly in businesses that have been negatively affected by Xi (I happen to know a few in the Software industry like this), really dislike him due to the reputation damage they have caused to China, and how it makes their own lives harder. But I find they generally avoid doing any action or talking too much about it in order to avoid conflict with other Chinese people. I've only had conversations about this with some of my closest friends. Thus, they try to cope and worry about everyday things instead.

A video full of prejudice. It seems that a defenceless China is friendly in their eyes. No, it is the defenceless China that can be easily controlled by them that is friendly. Don't only see one side of China, China is not only friendly, it is also powerful and can not be bullied. Why is China getting tougher after 2010? Because even if China joined the WTO, even if China is willing to make friends with the world, the European countries and North American countries are not willing to share even a little profit with China, and try to make China succumb to their bullying with very strong means. For example, in photovoltaic, telecommunications, networking and chips, if there is even the slightest chance that Chinese companies will overtake them, they will do their best to suppress them. They just want the Chinese to make cheap socks for them. After ten years of being bullied, China has had enough. The Chinese people have had enough. As a result, China's diplomatic posture has become increasingly assertive in recent years. Because some people don't know what friendly is, they just want to keep China under their control. Since you said China is now aggressive, let the rest of the world does not like. Then why have so many European and American politicians visited China in recent months? Because they know as long as they come for cooperation, China will always be friendly! Just look at the smile on the face of US President Joe Biden at the recent US-China meeting.

Knowing the context on this Tweet, I think that it actually made Brazilians see China in a more positively. This was a response to Bolsonaro's son synophobic Conspiracy Theory of China having intentionally created the Covid-19 virus in a laboratory. Frankly, I clapped to this Tweet, and it made me see China in a more positive light. The enemy of my enemy is my friend. The ones that are aligned with Bolsonaro already see China in a completely negative way, it can't get worse than that. So, they attacked them, and this made the ones that are against Bolsonaro see them as allies. Seems like a reasonable strategy to gain the support of Brazilians. It worked for me.

I think the one misconception about the United States that is underestimated is how much Americans hate their own government. If we dislike our own government that much you can imagine how much we dislike any foreign government. In actuality what may be seen as a decline is more of a movement towards more non-intervention style of diplomacy. Gen X and Millennials are very skeptical of war. China has its own problems that aren’t the US problems. We have our own country to contend with. The only way that there would be an issue is if someone attacks the US. Then your @$$ is grass.

Currently, both USA and China are run by Boomers with zero-sum game mentality. Once the Milennial generation come to power, China and the USA can be best buddies. Why so? US milennials are more receptive to socialism and Chinese milennials are more receptive to Western ideas and philosophies. Both Chinese and American millenials despise the Cold War zero sum game mentality of the older generations.

@lyf hax You're fine. Honestly, much of how the CCP overreacts to everything is actually quite overblown. The CCP doesn't care about some random person making a comment on the internet. You won't be blacklisted unless you're someone important (e.g. a diplomat or a celebrity), and even then, it's got to be something you did in a way that really got under their skin. My uncle, who lives in China, goes online to trash local officials every night (and he doesn't have a VPN). He doesn't care, because he knows the government won't come after him. In his own words, he's nothing but a "senile old man with nothing better to do; they'd just be wasting their time, energy, and resources coming after me."

Does China not realize how much of its wealth comes from exports? By being rude, it's just discouraging other countries from trading and from immigrating to fix its demographics problem. Compare that with Canada, a country generally great at making friends. Our birth rate has been under 2.1 since 1972, but our rate of population growth never changed, since we're highly desirable to immigrants. In fact, China's losing a fair number of well-educated young people when they send students to Canada, and they stay here after graduation.

@@greenhat7618 are you serious? That's the number 1 method to maintain power for government irregardless. Whether democracy or dictatorship, they will violate human rights to keep power. Or at the very least (best case) forgo the wishes of some of the population. The question is to what extent. When you think about it, it is actually quite fascinating. In a democracy , as long as you please 51% (less in many first past the post system) of the population, the rest can go screw themselves. In a dictatorship, upset 50% of the population and you'll likely get civil war or a coup. My view is that in democracies, roughly half the population is being gently ignored, just enough to not cause major unrest. Good luck if you are on the wrong side. In a place like China, the government will try really hard to please as many people as possible. Flipside is they will deal very harshly with the minority that threatens the government. And it works because most people just want a comfortable life.

(As in it doesnt matter if its led and basically run by citizens of the host country) the pride of government and messy bureaucracy both go hand in hand to prevent people from getting aid. Specifically, i was not even a volunteer but volunteered to help the volunteers because im a part of their community and because i had tag along with my roommate all day. Many vietnamese people need access to wheelchairs and similar products or accessible buildings. But the government states they cannot allow too much help or at least not without a lot of red tape, because socialism must be seen as successful and accepting outside aid above a certain point is seen as failure of the system.

As a Chinese who live in UK, can I just say that I in fact have to force myself to set and watch this whole series of 'China's Reckoning' which I know going to be a waste of 1.5 hour of my life after 10 mins in (I thought initially if made objectively, it may be interesting as a kill time). I don’t want to go through every point need to be argued with outdated information and theory (about 10-15 years too old), by a guy very possible never been to China and pretend to be know it inside out from books and other 2nd hand information on internet. Instead of asking 200 questions spread across the rest of series, I just want to ask two for this 4th part of video: As a video made in 2021, the whole thing you talked for 20 mins about online propaganda and official to be too ‘wolf-warrior’ style in last 2 years. Don’t you think the USA has been doing the same to the rest world for the past 30 years? And who is acting more ‘wolf-warrior’, or in English, War Hawk to ‘potential threat’ (which by all means, hasn’t send any troops to invade any country for any reason) than the former and current president of US?

In the words of the Bible: "Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?" The US has done some horrible meddling in other countries' internal matters in the last 30 years, most notably the Iraq War, but that was 20 years ago, and under a government that has changed leadership 3 times since then, plus you have the freedom to criticise the US and the West if you want. Meanwhile, the sheer level of pettiness in China's feuds are mesmerising. Over a small comment by the Australian Prime Minister, China decided to ban all Australian imports overnight, which lead to China having a large energy crisis because they couldn't replace the coal they had been importing from Australia. Recently, China banned all Lithuanian imports because of what was purported to be a typo. China decided to recognise the Falklands as part of Argentina and not a British Overseas Territory because the UK are boycotting the Beijing Olympics. These are all things that have happened in the last year, while the Iraq War was 20 years ago. These things simply don't happen in Western governments because, for all their flaws, anyone has the freedom to criticise them. In the UK, you can say Boris Johnson is a twat. In the US, you can say Joe Biden is a twat. In China, no-one can say Xi Jingping is a twat, despite him being the biggest twat of all. Genocide is another good example. The last mass genocide by a Western power was the Benghal Famine in the 1930s. China's government still does it today, and still can't admit it did the Tiananmen Square Massacre. I see so much defence of the CCP, but all these comments amount to are "yeah well West are bad too". This is a flimsy argument because it completely ignores the scale and how recent the screw-ups are. Plus, China's government acts inhumane in 2022 in ways the West hasn't acted in decades, maybe centuries now.

@@belnonaodh1520 子曰: “以直报怨,以德报德。” Confucius: " Requite resentment with justice; requite kindness with kindness." First, I don’t think you should use ‘when did a country joined a war’ as a time point of judge a country’s interfering of a war, it should be ‘when did it pulled all military forces from the war’. Iraq War was 2003-2011 according to Wikipedia (just quote as a reference of argument), so that’s 10 years instead of 20, and by that will get us that the US only pulled itself for the last war (War in Afghanistan) about 6 months ago. Second, what do you want to say by referring to these 3 changes of leadership? ‘Change’ is an action, it has no positive of negative meaning in any concept. A change of leadership does not automatically mean it’s a good thing if none of them has successfully improved people’s life quality. Freedom of criticizing of US and West? What has these critics done other than criticizing? Criticizing improves nothing without action. Australian is a country in top 15 of the world, I wonder how you can treat any comment from such country’s leader to be ‘small’. If he doesn’t know he plays a major role in international political environment, his speech and action represent his country and will have consequence, then he is unfitting for role. Btw, do you know what he said on 50th Pacific Islands Forum? UK boycotting Beijing Olympics? You mean what the UK PM refer to the House of Commons as: ’What I can tell the house is I don’t think sporting boycotts are sensible and that remains the policy of the government.’ Its always funny to see the government official comments its action in such way, it’s like saying: “yes, we are against you, but not really”. It’s very British. As for BIGGEST twat, I don’t think you can compare between any politician, they are all on an equal level for the matter. If you think any of them is a Saint or should be one, I’m sure you have a better luck in history book. Oh, sorry, there isn’t. Genocide? If you mean Uyghur, the Chinese government has been very unsuccessfully ‘genocide’ its population from 3.6m (1953) to 11.6m (2020). A terrible defeat, shame on us. Inhumane action in 2022? Humor me.

@@Rex-ud7hp So you're just denying the genocide? You know birth rates in Xinjiang region fell by a staggering 84% between 2015-2018? Also, it's interesting that you say "shame on us" facetiously. This is something I see a lot from people trying to defend the CCP, by falsely conflating it with the entire Chinese population. I'm not talking about you, I'm talking about the government. There's a lot more to unpack in that comment, like your comment about being able to criticise a government does nothing (because of the freedom to criticise governments and vote accordingly, democratic governments are forced by the system to make decisions beneficial for the public) and the government of Australia, which was pretty mild compared to what he could have said about the Chinese officials that are spreading conspiracy theories that it started in the US, then claimed it started in Italy. Edit: The CCP's totalitarian government makes it unappealing or outright impossible for immigration to stop the shrinking population which simply doesn't happen in the West. The CCP is currently telling the Chinese population what to believe and think about the Russian invasion on Ukraine right now. The people go along with it, but that's the affect of the government's actions, not the cause. Have you seen the list of words and phrases that have been temporarily or permanently banned on Chinese social media? If the Chinese government represents its own people so well, what would it have to lose by giving them a little more individual liberty? Your paragraph about the flaws of the US government's import tax being bad and your paragraph about having to be from the same cultural background as a person you criticise completely contradict each other. If you believe I'm arrogant for criticising the Chinese government, you're just as bad for criticising the US government, which I don't even need to defend. I am very critical of US expansionism, but it usually happens through economic pressures or fear of terrorism (in the wars on the middle east since 2001). I don't need to like the US to dislike China. That being said, I'd still prefer to live in the US than China because aside from democracy and individual liberties, things like the Uyghur genocide simply don't happen in the US. The Chinese government are barely even trying to hide it, they gave the Irish government a stern warning for just meeting up with the leader of the prosecuted Uyghurs. It's incredibly suspicious behaviour.

@@belnonaodh1520 So you are not denying boycotting the Beijing Winter Olympic is 'not sensible'? If what you said is right, then Japan, South Korean and UK should not have a worse birth rate than China (2019 data), as they all have democracy. It’s a funny thing to believe one can explain a social phenomenon that simple. The CCP is chosen and supported by the Chinese people after WWII, and its success in improving the people's life quality is approved by the Chinese people. All government policy has positive and negative impact on society, but the government should represent its people and act in their best interest, and its member all hold accountable by the people. But most of all, a government is formed by its people, every civil servient is one of its citizen and live the same life with the rest of citizen, they don’t live in parallel universes. To think you can separate the Chinese government from its people, is like to separate a tower from the sand it’s made of, a very childish idea. I wonder if the US citizens can agree with you on criticizing the government can actually lead to a benefiting change for them. What power do they hold beside a vote in election every few year? Did they stop US raising the tax on Chinese import that leads to the raise of cost on their life? You know the tax is paid by American importers not the Chinese exporter right? If you think a person C can judge a comment from A to B is mild or offensive, you are wrong. No one in this world share the same happiness and sorrow. If you are not from the same social and cultural background as B, please don’t pretend you have the right to say their feeling is right or wrong, it will only make you looks arrogant. As for conspiracy theories, have you watched the speech titled ‘What is The Empire’s Strategy’ made by Lawrence Wilkerson (retired United States Army Colonel and former chief of staff to United States Secretary of State Colin Powell)? Don’t you think that’s something the US is in fact doing right now?

@@belnonaodh1520 Next time, PLEASE don’t 'edit' what you said in the pasts, it makes like you try to hide what you said with a fake timeline, in a very cowardice way. You know population growth is a challenge for every industrialized country in the world right? Every major country is struggling to meet the 2.1 total fertility rate to maintain its population level, don't tell me that you think the ONLY RIGHT way to solve it is 'immigration'? and other direction of trial is wrong? Are you really so narrowed? For Russian-Ukraine war, Chinese media is telling its people: 'NATO agree/promise by its official to not 'expand eastwards by an inch' since the collapse of Soviet' since 1990, and NATO keep breaking this promise ever since. So, lesson to be learned here is not to believe what western promised, they will break their word in the first instant suits their short-term interests. And if you think China (government and people) is on the side of Russian, do you know Ukraine is amond the first group of country to sign up in 'Belt road initiative', you think we want to risk the 'initiative' for other country's interest? Have you seen the list of words and phrases that have been temporarily or permanently banned on US social media? If the US is so open for individual liberty and its citizen are well educated, why are their media only publishing edit-simplified version of Xi-jinping and Biden's latest video call's details (18.03.2022)? what are they hiding? ‘Your paragraph about the flaws of the US government's import tax being bad and your paragraph about having to be from the same cultural background as a person you criticise completely contradict each other.’ --- prove it. So, the fact ‘you are not defending US government’ gives you the right to criticising others and they shouldn’t argue with you? That sounds like: ‘you shouldn’t fight me since I’m already lie down.’ --- its adorable for a baby. I’m not arguing with you for where you want to live, everyone has they preference and should be respected. You want to compare the status of China and US genocide progress (which you claim don't happen in the US), fine: - What’s your evidence for there is a genocide in Xinjiang? (historical data, not from a US official) - What’s Indigenous peoples of the Americas’s population status basis annual statistics since Columbus era or American Revolutionary War? - Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region is about 1.6m km2, whats the size for Indian reservation area in US? - Does US government support the Indigenous peoples of the Americas in a country wild program? Like education system in China will provide extra exam (Gaokao) credit for all minorities (commonly consider as there are 55 minority groups in China, Uyghur is one of them) for high school graduated to attending university. Finally, if all you can argue is ‘Chinese people should not over-react by give the Finger to people trash talk and lie about us’. -‘It's incredibly suspicious behaviour.’ --- quote from you.
