Writing is very hard, the feed of info is already all in your head, takes some time to know when your message is being said or if you biffed it- as someone who also fits the "Old player" part of the community I really adored the set up and the world building, I think what would help your execution is make it simple. Simple stories are the best ones no matter how much your brain will tell you otherwise, your sense of world building will fit in as the scale and pacing- good luck on your next project.

Ironically I think Decaying Winter of all games pulls this premise off completely unintentionally. The creator used an upscaled, modified crossroads for the map but manages to make it FEEL scary and threatening through both the enemies and the hints of the horrible disaster that befell it. Obviously it doesn't try to be a story like this, but it makes me feel terrified of the old in ways wholly unintended.

I think the main difference is that Decaying Winter doesn’t explicitly try to tell a story. The game isn’t specifically story, but rather a game WITH the story. The story supports the game, not the other way around. People can play the game and have fun without ever hearing about UMG vs RIS or the lore behind Eden-227. The game is a game before anything else.

The only thing bad about new roblox is the corporate decisions and route it takes, and how it promotes clickbaity and cancerous games. Old roblox was better when it came to little time wasters and hanging out with friends, and while I love all the nostalgic moments and wish some games would be brought back, new roblox is not that bad either. It's just that we grow up. And most games are gonna be targeted towards kids (sadly). And those are the ones that are promoted because business.

With the topic of single player games (good video btw I watched it all the way through) I would also like you to talk about HOURS. It’s developer completed development on it which I find respectable. Many games like to go through the live service routes and like 99% of games that don’t receive updates were more or less quit on by their devs. However hours was yk completed, and it’s a single player game. Old Roblox sucks, especially engine-wise, but New Roblox sucks too. I think a lot of people just miss the charm that the old internet had, especially old websites, considering that now everything is just so minimalist and soulless. The primitiveness of old roblox places and the lack of a proper lighting and physics engine is what makes me love old Roblox places, especially with things like Builders Club and Guests, Tix, etc. But, having actually played old Roblox, theres not really anything to miss, except for how the old HUD or UI looked, and that's literally just about it. Having played in 2012, I do miss those old skate hangout games, those obbies for chezburgers, etc, I miss the days where Roblox was just a game, not a game engine. But, genuinely, Old Roblox just gets Old fast, like the charm runs out pretty quickly, especially when you try to code and make places yourself using the archaic and old engine. If you try playing revivals, it's even more lonelier and just desolate, so there really is just no point. I do miss how everything looked though, especially those terrain building places.

I definitely agree with the critiques on the story, when I was playing both these games I was trying to piece the story together in my heads as the games didn't give you a whole lot of information, especially to newish Roblox players like myself. I overall found these games to be fine (best part was definitely the chase scene through all the roblox games)

I played both games, Nostalgic and Crossroads hangout. While I found Crossroads to be a bit more engaging overall, what with the use of the map and having lil' noob NPCs roam about aimlessly to simulate a more... hangout-like place, I think I still liked Nostalgic a little better. For me, it was in how it didn't tell you too much? Like yeah, you have the RIS, you have haha funni SMILE man, the whole framing of old vs. new set in what felt like you being an unwitting participant in something greater, out of your scope of understanding. But that was mostly it (I think?), you have a familiar premise and two entities that represent opposite ends of it, and something to work off of. Crossroads felt like it started going into "tells you lots of things that may or may not really matter to you/the narrative" places with how much exposition gets thrown at you for... I guess to better prepare the setting for the next game? A lot of it to me just had me wondering "uh... ok, I guess" or asking why they were so important in retrospect. Like the myths or the bacon hair, why are these things so important beyond "if we do something with these we can defeat Smile" (I think something was mentioned in passing but)? Who cares about that one guy that smile tells to kill you, tries once and jobs it and then just disappears? I'll give Crossroads this though, I think the escape sequence is pretty cool, running through rifts in reality that take you through different (presumably) popular games.

I'd imagine this video is more about WHY alot of roblox singleplayer games don't work. The reason some DO, though, is because they're eerie with enough actual, legitimate lore, and substance. One of my favorites, which no longer works now, was Silence. VERY ancient game, came out in 2011, last updated 2017, almost 7 years ago now. Recap, though I haven't played it since 2015 and it's broken now. You played as a detective set out to do something about the robots that kept popping up. You end up being attacked in the tower by an AI controlled helicopter which blows up the wall whilst the commanders speaking to you. You can either flee, and come back when the commander dies and take his gun, or you can protect him, making the helicopter flee. I can't remember most of it, but I remember there was ALOT of lore building, and you could throw stuff at robots. The game ended with you fighting and taking down the helicopter with the help of the rest of the police team. It was alot of fun.

About 2 weeks ago I left a comment on your forsaken video where you brought up the Xbox 360 and how the games were fun, I commented about how I’ve been trying to find the one game that got me into racing for years yet I haven’t been able to get it, well TODAY WAS THE DAY!!!!11! I was checking out a bike shop where the average price for a bike was about 13k$ for some bike shorts that weren’t what I wanted (ignoring that they cost 100$), didnt find what I wanted and on my way out I saw a banner poster about a game shop that is a computer shop/gaming lounge/repair shop and was confused, decided to go see if they have Gpu’s, the guy said no, but for some reason I decided to show him a picture of the game cover just for the sake of it, the past 2 weeks I’ve been looking for it in shops in another country while on vacation and didn’t have any luck there, one said they’d check their warehouse(???) and respond but I didn’t hear anything back, but this shop, it had old Nintendo games on display so I guess that’s one reason that made me bring it up, he got the game, the exact cover that had the Colin McRae: DiRT one, except it was the “classics” edition, so it showed the original game cover but it was smaller than the full cover and it just had it inside a border with the “classics” text on top, the back is just like the original, I asked to test it and they said they usually don’t do that but they’ll let me do that and I got into a game then the controller instantly disconnected so I took that as a message to just shut the Xbox 360 down and buy it, asked them to wipe the disc since it had fingerprints on it, guy took the game, went behind the counter, and started wiping it with a TISSUE PAPER!! I asked if they had a microfiber cloth and he said no they had but they don’t now, and alcohol is also finished, ALCHOL IS BAD FOR GAME DISCS!!!!!! I took the game, fixed price at 42$!!!!!!! I forked it out tho LITERALLY THE ONLY ONE I HAVE SEEN IN AGES!!!! I was so excited and when I got back home I had to finish some stuff, and literally RIGHT NOW AS IM TYPING THIS, I PUT IT IN MY NEW XBOX SERIES X, AND IT SAYS THIS GAME ISNT COMPATIBLE, VISIT XBOX (dot) com /BackCompat TO SEE A LIST OF COMPATIBLE GAMES. I GO THERE AND THERES DIRT 2, 3, 4, 5, AND OTHER SPIN OFFS. EVERYTHING EXCEPT THE DAMN ONE I GOT, THE FIRST!!!!!! Now I have to get an Xbox 360, but they’re all beaten to death and I have no clue if they will survive or give me the ring of death like a week from when I buy it and then I LOSE EVERYTHING PROGRESS WISE. some games are meant to be singleplayer, as sometimes multiplayer can ruin the experience. sometimes this can make the game good, sometimes it’ll make it worse. who knows. this game wasn’t too bad. I liked the building and the potential it has, and it seems to have quite a lot of effort put into it.

i can understand your point of view but i actually really like the two games. the story is OK i agree but i actually really liked the pace of the game. it gives you the time to full dive yourself into the nostalgia the of the classic cross roads but every time they bring you back to the tower your left unsettled wondering "what happened to this place?" it both the same yet different. every time they made something unsettling happen i was able to connect it with old myths and classic horror as a whole (inside of roblox and outside of roblox) further enhancing the games nostalgia and equally increasing the uneasiness. one of the reasons why I'm so invested in the games is because even with the seemingly happy ending they have not only a 3rd badge that is hard to get but also leaves you with more questions than answers. the only answer we're given is that the story is not over yet. and i have been able so somewhat piece together some of the question. over all i just don't think the game was for you. i don't know if you've tried a game called "my eyes deceive" but it's a physiological horror game which was disturbing enough for roblox to completely take it down. but the game was actually a came that got ported into roblox (FOR ANYBODY READING THIS BE WARNED THAT THE GAME CONTAINS CONTENT THAT SOME MIGHT FIND DISTURBING) I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post links in the comment section without the bots flagging it as spam so ill just say that it called "my eyes deceive" by nouhidev you might just chalk it up to shock value but i find the good endings final words extremely effected me to the point where i actually had dreams/nightmares about it. so id love to hear your opinion.

I really wanna make a game someday that gives you the true, unbridled, PRIMAL fear that you get, when something happens along the lines of, you're playing singleplayer minecraft and you find evidence of another player, you are very tense, and then you hear a cave noise and turn around and think you see a figure for 1 ms before your game closes, that sort of "chills down your spine" because its a real experience and not just some horror game trying to make you jump. but wahtever

been on ROBLOX since late 2008 and honestly old ROBLOX really is better in some ways but mostly in regards to the platform itself because things like daily tix/robux was a thing, the currency exchange (which was honestly CRAZY cause we really were doing like currency trading for profit back in the day as kids), avatar customization being much more accessible for F2P players, the party system, and the forums but anyone saying that older ROBLOX games are just outright better is probably crazy because while modern ROBLOX does kinda encourage uninspired and greedy game design, they have added so many tools and features to make games better and this is something i've especially been able to appreciate because back when i started playing ROBLOX people couldn't even add their own custom GUIs, they had to use what ROBLOX had already like the old server message system to show global messages and the leaderboard had to be used to display levels and currency and stuff making games is also more accessible too, as a roblox developer who has started in more recent years (like 2018-present) it's crazy to think of having to work on roblox games without having things like GUIs and module scripts the reason i've stayed on this platform for an entire 15 years honestly is cause the games really did get more fun and got higher in quality over the years, and for the most part it has outweighed the weird user-unfriendly stuff ROBLOX has done

Some parts of the game were pretty good honestly The crossroads maps was able to give this uncanny feeling and the chase was abit lacking in writing but it was pretty cool ig, the sitting at the table part crepped me out abit but despite being a major horror fan I'm quite sensitive so that isn't saying much I hated the IRS or whatever part because it was pretty boring just kinda walking around doing whatever, the story was un immersive, I just wanted to skip the story to get to the gameplay part which it didn't have

the criticism parts are fine, but just like the game itself it feels repetitive to hear the same exact criticism over the same edits, with no real balance of what was done right and wrong. you can’t say “waste of potential” if you don’t really state what the potential was. the only part giving the game semi-props was at the very end. STILL being backhanded. truely the whole video felt like a rant rather than an actual essay. which sucks because of the fact the game is “unique” in its own right. the story is easily critiquable but it doesn’t change the fact that it’s a game that you wont see many copies of. my criticism, to the video, would be to section ut the pieces of criticism in individual timestamps instead of sprinkling it through the video. it’s hard to watch the entire video when the “this story is confusing” critique is mentioned in intervals of 5 minutes. I would also prefer if there was a more lighthearted section of what they’ve done right. because most games have a “done right” idea in it. It would be a good palette cleanser of the bad, rather than a pure acid bath of what’s wrong with it

I played the crossroads hangout game a couple days ago but unfortunately dropped it because after the dining table segment not only didn't I notice the decal thing at the spawn, I also somehow didn't notice the cliche shadow figure (probably due to my stupidity and inability to notice many things), so I've been just walking around the whole map for 15 minutes while simply chilling to the music (because honestly the music was great)

yeah the whole point of this game is about the old roblox, literally the beginning of roblox, so im not sure why you complaining he added an olds characters that are long forgotten. personally i liked everything about this game, the story, the atmosphere of the game, and yes it includs all those long conversations cuz they were interesting

i really can't see the fnaf resemblance other than the thing that jumps you at the end. it's fun the first time you play it, and especially if you introduce it to friends, but it doesn't have enough substance to make it truly memorable. it tries to be subversive, but it doesn't really know what to hide underneath the obby, so it just feels like random horror elements thrown in. the flashing lights just make it more irritating than anything.

Single player doesn't work in roblox because its a multiplayer oriented platform. It incentivizes you to play with friends, its like playing on a minecraft server... alone. It just isn't the same, its not what people WANT. Amazing single player titles already exist, and there are tons of free ones. When done right, they can be fun. But its rarely worth your time to go onto one of these, because you can just go on steam and play games like celeste that are 100x better. Because im going to be honest with you, celeste is peak game design.
