as a 90s skater that got old and fell out of the scene, i haven't kept up with modern skateboarding. so i don't know much about him. what i've seen though, he's an amazing skater. but he's also corporate and clean. i don't know where the vibe of the community is today, but in the 90s there was always an undertone of anarchist ideology with skateboarding. it wasn't anti business, but it was very anti large all consuming corporation. it was a diy scene where companies were staying starting out of garages. where ceo's were skaters just trying to give their pros enough money to live a decent life. then shit blew up and skaters started getting rich, which most of us were cool with. we wanted skaters to be successful. the first time i saw nikes sb in skate shops my heart dropped. it was a sign. nyjah represents everything we hated i'm 50/50 on one hand i'm now a libertarian and still hold anarchist beliefs. so part of me doesn't care. do what you want, it's your life. the other side of me hates conglomerate monopolies, corporations so large that neocolonialism is engrained in their business models, and nike is part of a conglomerate monopoly. they also engage in neocolonialism with their manufacturing in the global south. it's natural for a skater taking their money to be hated.

The premise of this video shines a light on how corny skate fans are more than anything. Of every single offense he is accused of and hated on for in this video, not a single one is legitimate in terms of skateboarding. Skateboarding as in what one does on a skateboard. Dude is one of if not the greatest of all time based on SKILLS. Skateboarding has been trick based for over 30 years and he does clean and powerful NBDs on the heaviest street spots and lands them perfectly. No flailing arms, no bow-legged stances...pretty much as good a style as is possible for that type of skating. He can pull massive, unmatched hammers out in contests under the highest-pressure situations. He is landing tricks (bolts) in this video from when he was a little kid that only a few people can do today. Sellout? Are you f*^&king crazy? More like Sell In! Dude earned every penny he ever earned and deserves everything he has and more. He has a hell of a lot to celebrate about. Again skateboarding in reality is about what you can do on the board, yet people hate on him for being too good, his fits, and being successful. Think about that for a second.

The problem is that style matters, skateboarding used to be cool as fuck. Now people are making it look lame, Nyjah's style of skating is no doubt insanely clean but it's almost too sterile and formulaic, sometimes you gotta get crazy with it. Bam Margera yeeting himself off a sign or a rooftop, might not be the cleanest trick ever but at the same time nobody else wanted to try some of those spots and that made skateboarding legendary.

Nyjah turned pro in 2005. That's nearly 20 years and he is STILL dominant. I'm wondering how that's comparable to a college player. He is tied for the most X Games gold medals of any athlete in any sport, and his 15th came very recently so he's still going. And what do you mean he grew up with money? Did you watch the video? They moved to Puerto Rico with the money HE made skateboarding. That's irrelevant anyway, as is the age he started at as well as his dad. You make it sound like anybody can do what he did under those circumstances. He says right in this video he was winning absolutely everything at an early age. You need to be gifted for that to happen. He can do rails, gaps, manuals, ledges, the works. He's also good on transition. FYI, Jordan played in the NBA for 15 seasons, and Kobe for 20. Again, Nyjah has been pro for 19 years and is still at the top. Explain to me how you can use MJ and Kobe as comparisons as to why Nyjah isn't in that conversation, and be specific please.

Lol wtf? He only "grew up with money" because he started winning contests, his parents were broke. He is OBJECTIVELY and FACTUALLY the greatest street skater of all time. He is Michael Jordan. He has been doing it for over 25 years, and just won a Super Crown at 30.
@Juugrichkory16 сағат бұрын
U clearly didn’t watch the video he didn’t grow up with money 😭

It's called jealousy. Man is an all out monster on a board. Haters gonna hate what they can't achieve. The fact that he's never won SOTY when he's by far the best skater in the world says it all.

I’m almost 6:00 in with nothing about skateboarders “hate Nyjah”.

He is insanely under appreciated and should be regarded as one of the greatest skateboarders of all time.

Allegations with "very little proof"? Lmao ok... China Ferguson, a very respected pro who's been in the skate industry for 10 years, said on The Bunt Podcast that he's heard and known people who have seen the video of the SA incident. Also, Chase Webb just happened to disappear from skating after being involved in the SA incident because nothing happened? Or maybe was it because he was the scapegoat to protect Nyjah? Nike wanted to protect their golden goose of skateboarding.

How he treats people is why I stopped being a fan & that was hearing about it at my local skatepark. He came up there once and acted like he owned the place.

"Allegations with "very little proof"? Lmao ok..." …and then you proceed to give NO proof. Do you know what proof means? I am NOT saying Nyjah is definitely innocent, I am criticising your comment.

People just hate other people's success. The dude has done the hard work and is reaping the rewards. I think some people just hop on the hate train because they want to feel included but as they get older they realize that the dude is actually a legend in the scene.

I worked at a taco truck, we were hired to make tacos at a small skate event at Nyjahs skatepark! He never came to grabbed tacos, never said hello, someone actually grabbed tacos for him, didn’t even shout us out or anything lol that’s why I didn’t care much for him after that!

Debatable goat, what? Have you not heard of Rodney Mullen, Tony Hawk or Stacy Peralta? Take away any 3 of them and skateboarding is either dead or drastically worse and less technical.

Great video! I didn't know anything about his child hood or up bringing. Nyjah has always been amazing to watch skate. I think the fortune and fame might have got to him a bit, but it gets everyone in any sport or spotlight into some trouble. I have seen some awesome and amazing videos and clips of Nyjah pulling off tricks I could only dream of! I never met him, and don't have any ill will or disrespect towards him. He is just one of the GOATS and we should leave his personal life to him. Thanks for making this video Dusted.

I remember hearing how Nyjah was just a comp skater, and that there was a disparity between one and a street skater. I think he shreds. And without him I don’t think skateboarding would be as recognizable as a legit sport as it is now.

It’s just jealousy. Fans and athletes hate a champion that stays there year after year. They love you on the rise but hate you at the top. What they really mean by they hate to watch him skate is they hate how easy he makes it look. I love how ecstatically grateful he makes it look. It’s like watching prime Ali boxing or MJ dominating in basketball. They all had their movements down to a science.

This is new ....who hates him? Thats a bold statement saying ALL skaters hate someone. People hated muska cause of the chadilac muskalade. But lemme tell you, that hate didnt come from LA. Maybe you to you guys who just saw him in videoes and magazines. But muska (ok his shoes were hideous) came throgh venice (pre-rebuild of the pit 1 when there was a huge area covered in shit and spraypaint. Pit 2.0 is them demonlishing 2/3 of the concrete and left some of it for some weird reason) he always had a trunk full of shit. And really just showed love, you know? Regardles how corny or whatever he was, he was still loved by the younger generation ofl the community. Even p-Rod. He was a kid killing parks in the vallye (818 northridge baby!) i thjnk he was signed with 118 board shop. But peole hayed him beacause he was a kid. ... Like wtf pety..
