I have two problems with white grip. 1. Gets super dirty fast. 2. I count in my head when i pop tricks and something about other grips it messes up my counting and distracts me making me bail on my tricks.

Depends tbh, roads in Indonesia are mostly black/dark grey so bright colours might help here. If you don't want a pure white grip ig you can make some cool patterns with black and white or other colours so there's that

i think it's because when people get their first deck set up, the guy at the counter will typically just slap some black grip on it. we are creatures of habit, so if we get used to black grip, i think there's just a natural inclination to keep it black

So you can see what tye boards doing white tape blends in ....same for clear tape ut blends with ramps ....also alot of vertical tricks require a sticky board ..black holds heat to help you shoes stick ...leave a board inside all day in the ac then try to skate vs. A board you let heat up in the sum for like 10 minutes you will be able to tell ..also if your trying to track your kicks or sweeps you can clean your board between trys to change ut up .I've seen newbies "copy" a pattern of a board that someone just landed the trick there trying with chalk ..you can tell if you copying right if you take most of the chalk up when you then try or see if you over or under

The grip being black typically contrasts to skate parks or side walks making it easy to tell which way your board is rotating it also just looks more slick and feels better I ride both skateboards and scooters just for fun and I enjoy both skating is definitely harder to do basic tricks but scooters are fun to ride and do grinds on there is something so satisfying about it to me

My first grip was pink. Then I got purple. Then black for a while. Then I started cutting crazy shapes in the grip. Then I got a couple graphic grips. Now I bought a huge roll of grip and a bunch of paint pens and I go ham drawing on the grip.

when you use a black grip, it is much easier to understand where and how you remove your foot in order to further correct the movement. on the other hand, when you use white grip, there are fewer traces and scuffs, more precisely, they are not so noticeable

I think the reason it wears put faster is because maybe the chemicals make the glue that holds the sand stuff on the grip weaker, ive had a few boards with an anime grip and within a week or so they are worn out or are weak but the design is worth it, i wish mob made some anime grip.

I’ve had an awesome blue and white grip tape that I loveddd but it got dirty so fast (and this was when I was just starting so i wasn’t even doing much with it). So after that, I stuck with darker colored details. But fun to have for a bit and show off with. If you’re only cruising with it, it should last a while.

Back in the day it was hard to have color grip very rare to see we just used to spray paint the grip whatever we wanted then other companies started to come out with different types of grip some work better then other some ripped up your shoes in like 15 mins some made your foot slip off the board but in the end it doesn’t matter cause there people out there that skate with no shoes on and can do everything trick you got 😂 just be happy skateboarding with your friends 👊🏽

Black grip provies good contrast with white/grey concrete so when you're learning and you need to see what your board is doing its nice to have clear contrast and know which side of the board is facing up. sure you can see wheels and trucks but something as simple as black and white (and grey) is super easy. Try an all white underside and all white grip and see how easy it is. maybe for someone experienced it won't make a difference though.

(One of) the main reasons they do it is actually kinda messed up, if they do end up falling and scraping their knee or something they may get blood on the board but on black boards blood shows up a bit less

Purely a choice for me. I have been using clear grip over my top graphics just to show them off. But it really makes no difference. I bought a Tony Hawk Medallion deck back in the 90s that already had hot pink grip. It suited it for some reason.. it was the 90s. I rocked it 😂😂

i think it just comes down to personal preference i’ve seen a lotta ppl w grip art especially anime, but i think the main few things are that it’s cheaper, looks just clean, like one of those things you can’t go wrong w. it’s classic, it’s just like THE classic skateboard look, and there’s nothing that could like distract you, trip you up and make you bail. you don’t gotta worry about alignment you just slap it on and cut of the sides pretty much. it’s just like simpler, gets the job done, and looks clean.

When I was younger I really wanted to learn how to skateboard, so for my birthday my parents brought me to a shop and I made my little skateboard with different options of the actual board, grip take, wheels etc. I got myself a purple bat skateboard with BRIGHT neon green grip tape, white glow in the dark screws, and purple monster face trucks!!! I’m not much in to skateboarding anymore, but I still absolutely LOVE that skateboard and it’s still in my room! Moral of the story, get what color you want and will be happiest with ❤️

Back in the 80/90s clear and color grip was way more course so it would tear apart your shoes compared to the fine grip of black .the color would wear out quick and be slippery after a couple weeks

Black is easier to see against all other surfaces. It’s also a constant. Regardless what color the bottom is, you know what the top is. I could have a different colored board every day, but as long as my grips black, it all feels the same

Skating at night would work for the white grip, it's a contrast thing, in daytime you can clearly see the black in broad day but a night it would be more difficult to spot your board underneath your feet at night

I pretty much exclusively use non-black grip tape. Generally neon pink but also custom designs. It costs more but I’ve never had any issues with it and while it does get dirtier quicker I don’t find it to be a problem

I can tell you as someone who grew up skating in the 90's. When colored and clear grip tap first came out. ITS SUCKED! It would lose grip extremely fast. So we just stuck to the original black because it was better. I imagine things have changed by now though and that they're the same quality.
