Hey Ariel, are you ever going to make more videos? I actually LOVE your themepark vlogs. They're always well thought-out, articulate, and super fun. I love your presentations. Sad to see this channel go inactive for so long. I've been visiting the themeparks a lot recently. I guess my nostalgia has taken over me like all of the remakes that Disney has been putting out (which I honestly love) lol

Fans: NO more disney remakes. Me: You can argue a lot of their animated films are animated remakes.

actually as for lindsay ellis is that she was born in the mid 1980s and that decade was actually the time birth of the xennial that was born from 1977 to 1989

Excellent video. You put a lot of my thoughts on the subject into words. The live actions are very hit-or-miss for me. I am a 90’s baby, and for me that just means I have extremely high expectations for the live action remakes of those 90’s movies. For the most part I’ve been let down. I have honestly liked the remakes of the older movies better. I feel like there’s so much room to create more backstory and substance on the older movies than the more recent 90’s films. But I’d rather have new original animated films than anything!

Thank you! It's nice to know that we're not the only ones with these mixed opinions 😊 While I enjoyed the Beauty and the Beast remake, I thought it was completely unnecessary. The original film is near-perfect and was the first animated film to be nominated for Best Picture. And I most definitely agree that there is more room for improvement with the older films! The 90's weren't THAT long ago, and the Disney films from that era do not feel dated in the slightest.

I’m sorry to say but I’m one of those guys that despises the remake to Beauty and the Beast and especially The Lion King. To me those were insults to the originals. I could go into detail but I doubt people will want to read a 30 paragraph essay. I’m exaggerating of course on that last part😂😂. Also I wasn’t a fan of Mulan either like there was still so much untapped potential. One of my biggest gripes with it is that Mulan is perfect from the start which misses the point of the character. A character can’t grow from perfect. Another thing I’m not a millennial. I was born in 2004 but I grew up with a lot of media from the 90s and before. To this day still adore those decades.

Don't bother with the remakes. They only exist due to greed and the delusion that nobody likes 2D animation and cartoony 3D animation anymore. Maybe if they only made a minor few of them as some kind of simple one-time experiment, then that could be accepted. But no, they're now milking them for all they are worth since they think all of their customers are stupid. The BatB, Aladdin and TLK remakes are some of the worst due to their CGI vomit, divergence from the originals, and lack of originality. The Mulan remake was awful too. Just don't watch them. I'm a 90s baby, and I hate the remakes.

Great to see your sister. I think Dumbo didn't do well because of the dark story and CGI. I agree remakes this year seem way too many, but as long as they make money there will be more. I would love to see you do a commentary on Disney Broadway

I love that idea!! And this year would be the perfect time to do it, as it marks the 25th anniversary of the first Disney Broadway show: Beauty and the Beast 😊

kzbin.info/www/bejne/pIXdn6B4h7Z9rrc This commercial from the 90's describes what Disney did for our parent's generation, while they were raising us. Banking on nostalgia has always been a Disney. Heck, it even goes back tot he 50's because of the fact that Disney's Main Street USA banks on the Gay Nineties nostalgia. That actually would make a good episode to talk about, which is Disney's use of nostalgia.
@AdventureswithAriel5 жыл бұрын
Awesome! Thanks for sharing 😀 This commercial reminds me of Disney Channel's 90's block: Vault Disney. It had a similar intention of re-introducing 50's/60's content to children of baby boomers. I like your idea of doing a video that revolves around Disney's use of nostalgia. I just saw an excellent video that analyzes how Disney produces music that sounds nostalgic: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gImTmI2Pbrt-oq8

@@AdventureswithAriel I agree. Baby Boomer nostalgia used to be the companies main butter. I mean from the 70's to the 90's; the main source of nostalgia pandering were the boomers. However, with more and more baby boomers retiring we've become the targeted nostalgia audience. We saw tons of remake movies of old 60 sitcoms from the Adam's Family to Dennis The Menace. Although I think it's the way that Disney handles nostalgia pandering that gets to us. As we see from how they pandered to our parents and grandparents, it wasn't a bad thing. Like if they had a block dedicated to the Disney afternoon shows and even the older sitcoms, then it wouldn't be as irritating. The live action remakes are often time lazy and not well-thought out. They should just see what they did right with the boomers, so that they can get it right with us Millennials.

At least you said t in a way that doesn't feel demeaning or condescending, that's probably why it gotten so dividing in the fandom is because most people don't like to be criticized for what they like, since they feel like they're being judged on. That's why probably some people like me react in anger because they feel like they're treated like they are stupid. Not to mention the generation gap debacles of old vs. new.

Did you ever see the 90s remakes? They started making them as early as '94 if not sooner. One of them was the first live action Jungle Book movie. Another in the later part of that decade was based on one of their hits from 1961. Guess what the movie is? These were well received upon their release, but few people even mention them when talking about Disney movie remakes, yet this is where they began. What did you two think of them?

Eventually the cheapmakes will end like the cheapquels. However, I do say this that Jungle Book improved on the material, and made Mowgli more likable. I think that's what the remakes should focus on movies that needed better refining like Atlantis and Black Couldron. Also I don't think they needed to remake Cinderella, because people dunk on Cinderella too much. And funny enough back in the production of the original movie there were plans to develop more of Prince Charming, but felt they couldn't. I think Cinderella is an example of trying to be woke, when I believe Cinderella was already good as it is. Cinderella is an abuse victim who has two few resources to fight back, and she really has no one to rely on. So giving her a friend that can potentially help her out defeats the purpose. Also you are right about banking on nostalgia. It happened during the 90's with our parents. I do have to say I remember that Walt Disney Masterpiece collection and it hit me in the nostalgia. I think the best way to pander to nostalgic people is to make shows out of these older movies. Again Disney did this in the 90's and we got the Disney afternoon. Man, nostalgia is just cyclic. kzbin.info/www/bejne/a6jQo6qnmNV7hdU
@AdventureswithAriel5 жыл бұрын
Yes! The original Cinderella was a stronger character than people give her credit for. Here's a link to a fantastic video that dives deeper into this topic: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nqavhJeja657Zsk. I love watching those old VHS commercials 😀I'm a sucker for nostalgia as much as anyone, and I agree that the cycle will never end. I also think that social media and KZbin has made our generation even more obsessed with nostalgia than previous generations, which is why we now see more revivals, remakes, and sequels than ever before!!

I'm personally really excited to see what they do with Mulan. I really want them to move away from the original formula there to create more of a modern epic. We shall see.
@AdventureswithAriel5 жыл бұрын
So am I! I think Mulan could translate well to live action. It's been confirmed that the film will not be a musical and that a Phoenix is replacing the Mushu character - so it could very well be a modern epic!!

Wow, two charismatic twin girls who love Disney history, i love it. I stumbled upon your page after the Mulan trailer. Yeah, like that term Disney Renaissance, the first generation that could memorize all the dialog of movies, including boomer movies, heck we had the best cartoons. The rewind generation. New Disney Renaissance in 2020 i hope, not much original animated movies, i miss 2d animation. Hollywood is getting lazy, the live action remakes are often time lazy, bad and not well-thought out. If they just did the same movie without changing anything, it would be amazing, i don't like when the mess up the plot and how characters look like. Our generation even more obsessed with nostalgia than previous generations, the cycle will never end, money talks. If Walt Disney would be alive, he'd be doing more original animated movies, how is it possible that Disney turned itself into a live action company? It's supposed to be core animation. Where are the Mickey Mouse movies? Disney hated the idea to turn his company into live action more than animation.

Well if you didn't say it like a cynical jerk, maybe they would've given you the positive attention, since that kind of attitude is what's dividing people and is only making the film and animation community look entitled.
