I am from Kerala. And here Red colour of Left wing stands for Blood. They highly give importance to the blood the martyrs shed to spread communism. You can here slogans like "spill blood on land to make it red". Also blood stands for Human equality. As every human whether man or Woman, White or Black, Hindu or Christian, Brahmin or Dalit (castes) has red blood in them.
@comradeviper40544 жыл бұрын
Oh that's pretty interesting, it was how I initially viewed the red flag as the colour of blood symbolizing equality. Although with Kerala in general I always found that place fascinating as I wonder about how it developed to being a bastion of socialism in India and how that influences the locals in Kerala, as well as how the rest of India sees it...

If the Sheep's blood story is true too, then my guess is that they used the commonly available blood to dye more sheets red afterwards instead of waiting for more people to get shot.

Interesting points also red is a very important colour in the human psyche, it is bold and eye catching on a subconscious level that’s why it’s not only socialists who have used it in history but also many far right facist movements, that will commonly use red in their flag today, as well as that red finds common usage in corporate logos, McDonald’s probably being the best example, politically it is perfect for propaganda as it will catch the eye of apolitical people who may now after seeing the red of your flag look into what your all about opening up paths for the ideologies to potentially resonate with people, this is also useful for selling a product as the advertisement cannot be ignored, also red is used by many women in their dress sense, even if it’s just red lipstick so that men will notice them, the colour red and is usage is so far imbedded in human primeval instinct, yet nobody knows why such a colour stands out to us more than any other
@swarmofbees31144 жыл бұрын
Blood is red, blood is usually present in a potentially dangerous environment, so red is eye-catching
@c.d.dailey8013 Жыл бұрын
You are going a bit more general. I thought it was weird that Nazis have a red flag, even though they are opposites of socialists. Maybe the red of danger and attention is the reason. It at least fits the bloodshed of WWII and the Holocaust. Warm colors in general actually increase appetite. So restaurants in general use them in their logos. So McDonalds has the red base and the golden arches. It is appetizing for customers.

I think you missed a MAJOR element about 19th century France. Indeed, during the monarchy vs republic vs empire shenaningans there was a second major Revolution in 1848 which definitively abolished royalist monarchy and established the 2nd republic. Before this revolution though, the royal flag had been switched from the Fleur-de-Lys emblem to the modern tricolor. As such, some of the (left wing) revolutionaries wanted to ditch the tricolor and use the solid red flag instead. The painting at 1:25 actually represents this moment in 1848 when the decision was made by Lamartine (a conservative) to keep the tricolor as he deemed the red flag reminiscent of troubled times during the 1st republic.

I have an other explanation for the reason the red was used by jacobin. After Louis XVI try to escape a petition was writting for the Republic instauration on the champs de mars but the national assembly and the national guard was against. So the martial law was voted and the national guard rise a red flag who was for repression and ironically this symbol of repression is reversed: is used on the insurrection of August 10 1792 against the monarchy. The most radical republican (Who are seen as precursors of socialism) used it against the tricolore who was used by Bonapartist and Orleaniste (liberal monarchist)

The whole idea of Red to simbolise the blood of the martyrs of the revolution comes from the fact that during riots, the guards would raise a red flag as a warning to the protesters, to warn them that its time to leave or to get shot basically. But on the day of the 17 of July 1791, a protest starts in France, demanding the destitution of the king for trying to flee from France, the red flag is raised, but before the people have the time to leave, they get shot by the guards. The link between the blood of the people and the color of the flag was made and the red flag switched from a warning symbol from the ruling class to the people to a warning of the people to the ruling class.

About the Welsch red flag. I heard that some of the protestors originally planned to bring just a white flag, you know, for parlay, as was and still is typical. But instead of peace and talk, the more militant workers of the group decided to dip the white flag in blood - to make it a battle-banner for the workers, signaling not passive surrender or negotiation, but class war. My understanding is that the socialist movement had decided red was their colour in the 1800s. You probably should have researched the social movements more and not just events. Anarchists also used it without the black before the split in personality cults between Marx and Bakunin.

There are three things I like that this politics based channel over others: 1. History of socialism and stuff like that 2. He is not really trying to pressure you into becoming a socialist or anything unlike every other political channel making it enjoyable for most audiences. 3. I’ve never known that there were that much western anti socialist propaganda. I though they just lied about a few things there and there so the countries western media says is communist shitholes, are mildly less than what the media makes it out to be but still absolute shithole nonetheless. After seeing the Cuba and North Korea episodes, I now know *almost* *everything* the west says about socialism and they different types, especially communism, is completely fabricated. I’m still not a socialist but it really made me accept socialism a lot more.

I like to think of it as a symbol for Fraternity. Blue: Liberty for society (freedom of speech, religious freedom etc) White: Equality for the state (one man one vote, a judge must not sentence you based on ethnicity, religion etc, only on your actions) Red: Fraternity for the economy (from each according to his abilities to each according to his needs, worker-coops, labor unions etc)

I’m a red blooded communist. I see everyone in red vision. Because of that I associate anything not red as being dead (or right wing bs).

Love the socialist content. Struggled a bit with the enunciation though so had to use subtitles. English not my first language so maybe something to consider for future content comrade. Xx

You should do a video on Laos and how things work there, it's so often overshadowed by Vietnam

i assume the flag drenched in sheep’s blood was meant to be symbolic. in wales and generally south england in general, lots and lots of poor, working class people farmed sheep during and after this time period. to drench it in sheep’s blood was essentially like saying “this is the blood of the workers”

Whenever you ask yourself why there is red on a flag the answer is its the blood of x people. Its always blood.
