When I was a very white concealed carry instructor in Texas, I taught almost exclusively African Americans and others of color. They are just as law-abiding as any white folks I've taught. They are fed up with living in fear in their own neighborhoods. I was able to show them not only how to safely use a firearm but also how to acquire firearms that were modern, reliable, and effective. They were some of my best students because they were eager to learn and were very teachable. I have lots of respect for license holders in our African American community. I really enjoyed teaching them.

I would add that, as a white instructor, I had reservations about trying to explain how to handle a traffic stop that can and does go very differently based on race. I was fortunate to have several friends who were African American officers who came bc and talked about how they handle stops as a driver off duty. In the end, it is what it is. They taught them what he does which goes far beyond what I an required to do when stopped. I hated that it has to be this way. But, I taught them what I was taught while recognizing that these students’ experiences were likely to be different than mine.

As a younger minority, I think it's the right of everyone to legally own weapons, and they should train to use them safely and effectively. A lot of my friends have or plan on getting a firearm because we grew up in an unstable and uncertain times, and the only people we learned we can depend on to protect ourselves and families is us.

My wife and I are avid shooters and in our experience the shooting community is very upbeat and positive. It behooves us all to be personable and reasonable to dispel the notion of "gun nuts" that people have. People seem surprised to find out that we shoot at least weekly and have carry permits. Latino gentleman made an outstanding point, "I'm not a single issue voter." That simple wisdom is so incredible. It's a complete illusion to think in a dominant two party system that one size fits all for people or that a person has to register as one and vote in an automaton manner. My voting history - Dukakis, Bush, Clinton, Bush, Obama, Obama, Trump and the last one I despised both so deeply I wrote in "a robot." My wife came to me in June 2020 and said she wanted to learn to shoot ("I wanna shoot like you can"), wanted her own gun, and wanted a carry permit. Mission accomplished. That was a long time ago, almost 40 years. I saw absolutely nothing wrong with it then, nor do i now. If we give the citizens the same rights as criminal and law enforcement, everything changes ...for the better.

I take issue that the premise is about getting into firefights with police. The idea of lawful gun ownership is knowing the laws. Texas law is that if you are armed with a firearm, and get stopped by a LEO, the gun owner is 100% responsible for not escalating the situation.

Whats weird to me about this is like what would happen like worst case scenario, say that one of them starts pointing guns at the cops or somone sees them and they have beef and starts shooting into the crowd (pretty sure they are all trained but idk) things could get bad really quickly i just think doing any firearm march could go so bad and the thing is the news could blame the march and no one would double check if true or not. just alot of things could go bad and i would hate to see

@@mrdeadwalker7113, when the police are outthere armed to the teeth, do you feel the same way? Do you say to them, they shouldn’t be there or have that? If it’s good for them, it’s good for you or I. When things go wrong, the first thing people do is call a person with a gun “police” and wait and hope their alive when and if they get their in time. Protect yourself and your loved ones first, then call for help. Better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.
