To quote something attributed by some to Churchill, "Democracy is the worst form of government, except for all the others." He also said, "The best argument against democracy is a five minute conversation with the average voter." Not only Socrates, Plato and many other Greek philosophers made a powerful argument against democracy. Many of the founders of America were adamantly against democracy. Such was the case with John Adams. The founders too saw the dangers of a democratic system where officials were elected by the way of popular vote. Our current system in America is not even close to what the founders had envisioned when they created the Electoral College. Today's Electoral College is nowhere near operating and having the functions established by them. By the way, the people of Athens voted democratically to force Socrates commit suicide. Democracy can either result in mob rule, or, into what we have in America, where the masses are divided against each other in two camps and are manipulated to vote a certain way, which is never in their best interest, with the real rulers being entities behind our government.

The basic point is everything has its flaws. Not democracy, classes will appear - quickly or slowly depends on that system and their roles. Noone wants them and their children to be the sewage worker forever right?
