NickonAquaMagna Yeah the regular lego bricks may not seem much to the simple eye but the potential of buidling things with them is practically limitless...as long as you have an imagination and you're constructive you can do all sorts of things with them Too bad I don't have much of an imagination neither am I constructive :/...but I do like seeing what other people create with them that's always interesting For example(and I know this is not the same thing but I feel like mentioning it) I loved watching Domino Day Annually...it was this event that always tried to break the guiness world record for most consecutive domino's falling into place...and they would come up with the craziest things and shapes for the setpieces...it was a joy to watch...a true spectacle Shame there hasn't been another Domino Day Event since 2009 :(...and it looks to be that way forever now...I will probably never be able to watch another Domino Day Event in my life...that sucks

I don’t think I encountered people who hate Bionicle, save one person who was from New Zealand, and hated Bionicle mainly due to it taking stuff from their culture. But to me, that’s sort of a valid statement due to real-life events that happened between Lego and the Maori tribes. But that doesn’t change how much I love Bionicle. It was one of, if not the most defining part of my childhood.

I oddly loved bionicle as a kid... according to my parents at least. "couldn't go past a toy isle without picking one of them up" in their own words. Nowadays to me that'd be unthinkable. more self-control and maturity and everything. Growing up and finding new interests and all, Not intending to talk down on AFOLs if that last part made me come across as some douche who thinks it's childish and that you need to get more "Manleh" interests. Because i certainly don't. I recently had a nostalgia attack from seeing the Lego Movie, dug out my old cobbled together Tahu figure (most of the bits were missing, it's weapons are now a mining drill and a Bohrok hand for a shield and i have replaced the head with one of the Metru Nui Toa, i think, i'm not sure.) I think it would be cool if in the LEGO Movie Sequel Tahu makes a cameo in a tavern, and he goes on a huge "drunk" (though they wouldn't be able to call it that or be to explicit) rant about how G2 "ruined" BIONICLE. Emmet would give him some words of wisdom, about how even if something is different it can't change the past, that you'll always have found memories, and even if theres a loud group of people hating on something it doesn't mean it's bad, it just means they specifically didn't like it. Tahu would be emboldened and happy again, and decide to help Emmet on his quest, but then the bad guys show up. Tahu fights off the enemy for Emmet to escape, and just as Emmet reaches the door we look back to see Tahu's sihlouette getting its mask knocked off and Tahu falling to his knees in self sacrifice. Emmet screams "no" or "Tahu" or something along those lines as Wyldstle pulls him out of the door.

This kind of thing is why I'm subscribed to you. I do think you're being a bit TOO self-aware, but self-awareness is always a huge plus in my book. Your evaluation of Unleashed was spot-on. The daytime stages *were* too linear. Your inner fears for the future of the series were proven unfounded, but that doesn't mean you didn't have a valid point. It just means Sega took the right route from that relatively unpolished beginning. As for Bionicle...speaking as someone who grew up with more "traditional" Lego and was absolutely enthralled by Bionicle as a young teenager, and also as someone who has quite literally never participated in the Lego community at large, I say leave the haters to their hate. There's little point in trying to argue merits with most people, unfortunately. Human beings have remarkable resilience when it comes to resisting plain fact, and even between reasoned individuals things can usually be boiled down to "I accept the merits of X but don't personally like X." The problem is most people don't even get that far -- they will refuse to acknowledge merit out of hand on the basis of their preconceptions. This, incidentally, is why self-awareness is such a major thumbs-up for me. Now let's all go set up a giant battle between Matau and every Bionicle villain ever. My money is on Matau.

Now, will I tell fans of Ninjago that they're not allowed to enjoy it, or that it sucks and killed a better theme? Of course not! If that's what they like, then let them enjoy it; they're enjoyment isn't hurting me, my distaste for the line is my own personal issue to deal with, not theirs and taking my issues out on them won't bring Bionicle back so there's no point in ruining things for them just because I'm feeling like a Grumps McGurt.

I'm upset by Hero Factory in the same way that I'm upset by Sonic Boom. Hero Factory is basically the NEW Bionicle thing though obviously far from as good, yet it gets new toy-lines, and a television show. Sonic Boom is an alternate reality of Sonic, though obviously sub-par, and yet it gets a show, comics, and games. Both in of themselves aren't hurting their other brands in terms of continuity or things like that, but the effort put into making these properties could have been better used elsewhere. Sonic Boom could have been time and money spent to help with the penders issue (and getting Ian Flynn his mini-series wrap-up), and helping with the main-series and it's future installments. Hero Factory could have been money and people focused on turning the Bionicle comics into a television show of their own so that those who only watched the movies didn't feel so confused by the time-jumps and being left on a cliffhanger. We could have had the Piraka and Takanuva all black and giant-like. But instead we have Hero Factory, just like instead of repaired comics for Sonic, we have Boom. Had either of these properties, Hero Factory and Sonic Boom, been quality material, the issue wouldn't be so jarring, but the fact that they didn't live up to what they should have, it just makes the wound sting more. I don't outright attack either, I just ignore them unless it's a letsplay or something, but you gotta wonder how properties with so much potential and money invested in them, ended up so lazily finished.

Personally, I really like the G2 sets, and the Masters are my favorite Toa set designs in general, but I'd be lying if I said the system wasn't lacking. It's main problem was that it still didn't have much compatibility with the other systems. Technic for example, stands as it's own system but perfectly meshes with the classic brick system, and the G1 Bionicle system used a lot of technic, making it also very usable. However, while G2 parts were less specialized and they WERE trying to introduce new pieces to make it more compatible, it wasn't enough. It just had too much focus on the balljoints and occasional tiny pins, and didn't let you do much outside of humanoids (though they DID try very hard to make some creature designs, which i applaud). It's really too bad it couldn't evolve more, because it really could've had more potential later on had G2 gotten actual advertising and wasn't dumped down for children. Because apparently we couldn't understand G1 just fine as kids. The problem wasn't that the story was more mature or possibly complex, but that it became convoluted as years went on. LEGO just feels completely disconnected from reality as a whole in recent years; they don't know what made lines popular to begin with, and are more content with selling licensed movie products because that makes them more money anyway. Now all we have are those terrible generic Star Wars figures, and if things continue this way we'll probably never see a truly unique theme get to thrive again, let alone have another constraction series again. They can't rely on Ninjago and Disney's pimp money forever. Honestly, they're better off making a new constraction theme altogether rather than continue trying to adapt this one. One that'll allow more varied character or creature design. Perhaps they can base something off of the mixels system with the tiny balljoints and bricks, or perhaps something based on ratchet joints again. Who knows.

Yeah, I think the reaction to the sets was a huge overreaction, but I think we can all agree that the story was bad, it wasn’t up to the bionicle standard that older fans expected and didn’t even do much to draw in new younger fans

You're right, that is the point of Lego. The more zealous people out there just need to understand that Bionicle and HF aren't about building a castle or a boat or whatever. It's about making CHARACTERS to act out adventures with, and given enough spare pieces to fiddle around with, you can make your own heroes. Then again, I think they do understand that, and that's their problem with it.

I really can't see why some people just personify what they don't like, or simply just fear as something bad just because they don't want it to exist, or because they don't understand it. I myself am a religious person who listens to music such as grunge or metal. You shouldn't talk badly about things that you don't know about.

This is kinda how Bionicle Fans treated Hero Factory. Claiming that it "Killed Bionicle" even though it was there to close the constraction hole that Bionicle left.
@jaykobwalson19414 жыл бұрын
Yeah, Breakout and Ordeal of Fire was pretty interesting. Kinda wish they focused on other teams like Bionicle did.

@@jaykobwalson1941 I really do agree with this. only showing characters we know, and then you only have a few helmets. we could've gotten more.
@Legomicroman3 жыл бұрын
i think it was because: 1. Hero Factory was blatantly cheesy and had some of the worst written Lego villains, ever. 2. CCBS, which allowed for less complex builds, with far less molds and thus far less variety 3. underwritten Hero Characters, some of which were blatant Deus Ex Machinas. like Rocka. 4. the setting was arguably far more bland than Bionicle. Makuhero City is not interesting. 5. the legit worst constraction line came with Hero Factory: "Ordeal of Fire".
@MonkeyWithNoBomb3 жыл бұрын
@@Legomicroman I'm going to give my own opinion on these 5 points you have written down 1. Yeah, HF was very cheesy, and the villains did suck, can't argue there. but I wouldn't say they're the worst Lego villains ever. sure, they all fucking suck, but they're not the worst. 2. CCBS has been very useful in streamlining Constraction parts. but yeah, variety was really slim. 3. Yeah no. I have no argument here, it's just- yeah the writing fucking sucked. Maybe if there was as much passion for HF as there was for Bionicle(in terms of writing), then it could be better. But there wasn't as much passion, so it sucked. 4. While yes, this is a great point, I think it's once again, creative laziness. Is Makuhero City the best concept? *Not by a long shot.* But it could've always been worse. 5. yeah I hated Ordeal Of Fire too

Vehicles are still my favorite part about lego. And back when bionical was popular I didn't have enough lego, technic, or brick to build Vehicles for the larger figures so I was drawn to the smaller minifigures that could get away with smaller Vehicles. I was never against bionical they just where not for me, I got my hands on some of the pieces and I use them to build mechs.

While you're probably right on the money regarding why AFOLs disliked BIONICLE, I found it interesting that you said that BIONICLE fans were content with the theme's cameo in The LEGO Movie while AFOLs were using it as proof that BIONICLE was a black stain on The LEGO Group's history. If AFOLs were the ones talking about the scene, then that argument would have backfired since Fabuland is grouped in with BIONICLE during that scene, and Fabuland is apparently considered a cult classic by AFOLs. From my experience, it's been the other way around: the BIONICLE fans are the ones who are screaming and raging about The LEGO Movie calling their beloved theme "not worth mentioning." Except that wasn't what The LEGO Movie said at all. It said "we don't need to mention." It's a subtle difference, but much less antagonistic in meaning. And, from a storytelling perspective, it's absolutely true: since the BIONICLE theme did not play a role in the film's plot, Wyldstyle did not need to mention it in her exposition dump. Also, given that the theme was canceled in 2010 (when Finn would've only been about 4 years old), it also makes logical sense that he wouldn't have any BIONICLE sets in his household, hence why they wouldn't appear in the movie.

But in Legos overall track record fabuland was a modest success compared to classic space and Bionicle

Honestly if there were Bionicles in the movie they'd be like heros or something to the rest based off how they were the ones to save the company from dying. Now I do know it was actually Star Wars that saved lego but they wanted their own brand and made Bionicle which took off and they didn't need to lean on movie licensed stuff as much.
@jakobcrotty89075 жыл бұрын
@@zeratul____1228 Hard to say. Bionicle may actually have been the one that saved LEGO, at least in the short term 2001-2004. Sales steadily declined but in 2003 Bionicle was outselling basically every other LEGO line. Now of course Star Wars has proven a more than worthy investment, but in the early days when they were both untested Bionicle was the workhorse. You can find more info in "Brick by Brick: How LEGO Rewrote the Rules of Innovation and Conquered the Global Toy Industry" pages 154-155.

@@zeratul____1228 no it wasn’t Star Wars Lego started themselves is that George and lucasfilm took half of the money and that the return wasn’t enough. Harry Potter also didn’t gain Lego that much money do to a lack of movies when the deal started. Look at the facts, Lego has said it themselves that Lego wouldn’t be here without Lego, there is a documentary about this.

And, also, to be fair about your unleashed review, it was Extremely intelligent and well-written, just like all of your other reviews. And I'm pretty sure you convinced quite a few of us (including me) that what you said was the truth, something trustworthy. While I cannot hate unleashed as much as you did, I do wish people would stop worshipping the ground it walks, as people still do today. Half prototype/tech demo for Colors and Gens, half Diet God of War. That's basically what unleashed boils down to. Colors and Gens might as well treat it like a beta, or some other kind of inferior thing. And after seeing your review, others would likely say the same. Is that really such a bad thing? Maybe, I dunno. I'm pretty sure I'm just rambling at this point anyways.

Maybe it’s cuz I never really mingle in groups of system fans but I’ve really never seen toxic system afols. I’ve seen my fair share of toxic bionicle fans. I mean hell, some of my first internet experiences were seeing people 7-so years older then me complaining about how HF sucks on KZbin. But I’ve never truly seen “toxic system fans” unless it was bionicle fans talking about how they dislike them. If we’re talking about the 90th anniversary vote then I can see that maybe but I never really saw any, just lots and lots of campaigning from bionicle fans. Idk maybe I’m biased because I’ve always seen the toxic sides of the bionicle community and as the phrase goes “the grass is always greener on the other side”. Unfortunately these supposed toxic minority got their way because after numerous poor decisions on Lego’s part ccbs and with it constraction as a whole ended several years back. They even made new molds for the classic slizer hands without any new constraction sets. I think if they just didn’t mess with HF and let it flourish without turning its last couple years into pre-G2 experiments, while giving G2 more time to be planned out while building up nostalgia, we could still have G2 today.
