Why some countries are legalizing marijuana | DW News

How the stigma around this plant is changing across Asia, opening up a Billion-dollar industry and new jobs. For countries, like Thailand, it's about returning to its roots. But easier said than done.
Medicinal marijuana is a burgeoning industry. Its recreational use too. Especially in parts of Europe and North America. Asia is lagging.
Still the pandemic has proved to be a catalyst for the adoption of cannabis.
In Indian society, it dates back four thousand years. Then came decades of damaging drug control policies. Now a lot of governments realize they can take in huge tax revenues, if the business is fully legalized. Competitive prices could wipe out the black market. That'll require well-thought-through state regulation.
Thailand has been leading the way in South East Asia removing cannabis from its list of narcotics last year, effectively lifting its ban on marijuana. But without clear regulations. The legal uncertainty is dampening the thriving weed business. Authorities tightened some rules last month, raiding stalls they say were operating without a license. That's left many worrying about how long the boom could last.

Hopefully the rest of the world follows suit in the near future. To say the least there’s absolutely no reason for cannabis to be illegal, especially not now with the ready availability of complimentary cannabinoids (c.b.d., c.b.n., etc.). Sorry, its the American government that is the problem here. Weed is not legalized on a Federal level to keep prisons and law enforcement lucrative in America. This has filtered down to every other country on the planet. They say it is legal in certain places, but making money off it is considered illegal and banks won't go anywhere near the weed business for loans or profits. In America alone, budgets for police and prison went up substantially since Covid.

Everyone needs to know Raphael Mechoulam is often called the "father of cannabis research" because of his pioneering work. In 1963, he successfully isolated and elucidated the chemical structure of cannabidiol (CBD), one of the primary non-psychoactive compounds in the cannabis plant. A year later, in 1964, he and his research team were the first to isolate and synthesize delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the primary psychoactive compound responsible for the "high" associated with marijuana consumption.

@bayersbluebayoubioweapon8477

Where I’m from, we call it weed, because a low potency variety called Ruderalis grows in ditches here, imported a century ago for usage in the formerly burgeoning hemp industry. It’s much like how Chinese mulberries are prevalent in North America due to a historic silk industry, with trees imported from China long since spread beyond their former orchards.

Have you explored CBD for your pain? Some people don't grasp that to some the high is an unwanted side effect. Spent 45 days in Thailand a few months ago going back in 3 days, when we were there we were so surprised by the empty weed stores they are by no means popular and there is far too many for how many tourists are actually interested in smoking we met very few to any like minded stoners on our travels quite sad really… but I suspect the stores will soon dwindle after this initial boom of them opening I just didn’t see the custom there for them maybe stoners are just to lazy to leave their European countries or too broke idk 😂
