I had issues with my daughter when she was 9 and 10 years old. We fought about everything. I got tired of it and told her that it was her life and she had to live it. I told her I would give her space to show me she could be responsible with her life and things and that I would trust her judgement but she could come and ask for advise if she wanted it. She is 19 now and an amazing kid/young woman and we have a wonderful relationship. She showed me that she could make her own decisions and that they were good for her. I let her make her mistakes and watched her learn from them. I always wanted more freedom to make my own choices when I was her age. I gave her what I didn't have and she has showed me it was the right choice for her and me as well. I am truly blessed to have her as my daughter.

@@BearerofWisdom It is about balance for sure .Because of my childhood I had problems asking for help as a young adult because I just wanted to be in control of my own life and that was a lesson to learn for me. I let my daughter "go" and do what she felt was right for her but have always made it clear that I am here for anything she needs help with. She is very independent but very good about asking for input and help when she feels she needs it. I do wish kids came with a manual when born lol None of the books I have read about raising children applies to my daughter. And I don't think she is the only one that can't be "boxed" in a book.

Namaskaram Sadhguru, I think one of the hindrances to the whole "revolution of self-realization" (as Isha Foundation puts it) is constantly being in the limelight. Any and every questions seems to require your attention and opinion, and this is holding people back actually. In Lao Tzu's own words, "A leader is best when people barely know he exists, when his work is done, his aim fulfilled, they will say: we did it ourselves." Thank you for providing the world with tools of transformation. You have truly given the world something that's one of kind in that regard. Please take my comment sincerely, it's said in the interest of all.

I haven’t been in this situation since my kids are young but soon one day they will be teenager so this wisdom will come in handy. As a parent I will give them space and give them the wisdom how they are suppose to be with their kids. Yoga and meditation will come in handy too. Setting priorities consciously will certainly help the old generation and young generation 🙏😇😊

Too many older people feel they have it all figured out because they have years of experience. Young people think they know it all because they desire respect. The truth to me is that we all learn different lessons at different ages. There are things my children have taught me no one older could ever have. We must all humble ourselves and come together as a collective conscience. Agree to disagree, and sew seeds whether they grow or not. Look at American politics. Somehow 50-70 year olds assume they know what’s best for the next generation. When they wither away those who will be affected by their decisions are left with the brunt of the problem. There must be a middle ground where youth and elderly are connected. Longer time here doesn’t mean more intellect. Especially in a world changing as fast as this.
