One mistake I've made is: Trying to find out what is wrong with my teen when he is especially tight, seems angry, and is shut down. It never ends how I want it to end. I have started to say: I'm here for you if you want to talk. You are a good person and are very much loved...being a human is hard, sometimes. I used the tips from your videos! Totally open to hear more on this topic and on maybe naming emotions. I think I could help my teen better on that front. Thanks for your awesome content. T

One mistake I made was, when my teen was already having high emotions, I overreacted to it instead of keeping my calm. It really made things worse till I realized that when your teen is going through a storm, jumping into the storm with them is not the way to help, rather I should throw the safety net from a calm side of the ocean. As a parent it can seem hard to be calm especially when you see your teen about to or in a dangerous situation and we panic and out of fear come over overreaction to the situation.

Maybe you could have a heart to heart conversation with your daughter, and tell her this. Tell her that it is hurting you, and maybe admit that it was a mistake to tell her that. And ask her if she was hurt too?

It's hard to let natural consequences unfold, especially after you've invested so much effort, only to watch it seemingly go to waste. However, you're right. This approach was what finally helped my oldest grasp the importance of their actions and set them on a better path. It was incredibly painful to watch and doing nothing felt like the toughest choice, but I now realize it was worth it. My mother wasn't perfect in many ways, and with my brother, she never enforced real consequences or stuck to her punishments, which negatively affected him throughout his adult life. His life was a sad story of wasted potential, despite his kind heart and promise. I've come to understand that what's easy for a parent isn't always what's best for the child. Parenting is about accepting this tough reality, knowing full well they might not appreciate or understand your actions until they're older, perhaps not until they're living on their own or have children themselves. So, don't expect immediate gratitude. Do your best and the results are what they are we are human as are they.

Same here. My 15 years old doesn’t want to go to school. It is the hardest thing I have ever dealt bringing up . I am writing to you to tell you that you aren’t alone in your struggle and your teen isn’t the only one who has this problem.

I've probably asked my son to stop being hyper-reactive. But, he goes through days and phases where he will only be cruel, snapping at me constantly when I say something like "Good morning." But, then if I ask him to stop literally chanting insults at me, he will go in his room and not talk at all. Maybe I already ruined things and I'm not sure how.
@TamaraKane8 ай бұрын
He seems to feel I am part of the school system that forces him to be there each day. He hates it. He wants a college style experience where he can choose his own classes, but for elementary school. He does not like history, biology, or math, or anything that isn't automatic and instantly gratifying.

I beg to differ but if my kid is on the phone all the time, or plays on the ps5 all the time, won’t maw the lawn at least once a month, and I can go on and on then give me a break. I acknowledge feelings, thoughts, apologize if I’m wrong , my father used less words and I suddenly had no problems with respectful behavior. If I didn’t do well in a certain school subject he didn’t yell rather asked me if I needed help. Less words, but better communication.

How do you talk to teen when all positive talk and give many chances to do tasks but teen doesn’t take it seriously and not do what you asked. So many times i did and I lose my patient to talk and end up of yelling or cursing . Again I end up clean or do laundry for my teen

Mind if I ask how the situation has evolved? I was thinking, there needs to be a game plan for them to move out and time to prepare, say, 6 months. Support and Tough love can be the best in the long term.

When we were teens, I really can’t recall all dissection of emotions and behavior then we still did good degrees and studies, So is it only people having issues with their teens watching these videos ? I believe so It’s not up to a kid also to direct the lives of their parents not slaves

Kids are too soft these days. I do t think this is that tricky. Teach them right and wrong, call them out for the good and bad, don’t let them get away with BS, talk to them about their day, and if they want to whine and b1tch about it, let them and don’t change. They will grow up to be responsible good people, but you might not be as close.

Well I mean self explanatory if u tell ur kid not too talk when they have bad words then any bad feeling ect is never going too be spoken about you should create an environment where ur kid wants too talk too u no matter what
