Listeners will gain insight into Hutchins’s advocacy efforts, including her testimony at local and national levels in support of gun rights. She also talks about the unique workshops she has developed for women, such as “How to Protect What You’re Expecting” and “Prepare in What You Wear,” which aim to empower women through education and practical skills.
The conversation also touches on the broader implications of gun rights and personal safety in today’s society, highlighting the importance of the Second Amendment and responsible gun ownership. My dad went overseas once but before he left, he showed my mom how to use a 1911 Colt .45. One night some guy tried to come in through the bathroom window, but he didn't like the .45 pointing at him so he left. My mom was a 5 ft. 5" bad-ass.

How crazy is that. A hunk of metal allowed an otherwise defenseless person to even the playing field and prevent a catastrophe. Illegal in most parts of the world.
@onpoint2292
@onpoint2292 Ай бұрын
@schm147 That's because a lot of the Powerful countries around the world were founded during a time when guns weren't widely used in warfare, and thus, the right to being able to wield them wasn't as important to defending your freedom. For example, take how easy it was for Muslims to take over parts of Africa, Europe, and Asia with just swordsmen, calvary, and bowmen under the leadership of warlords. And how easy it was for anyone, even if they were just a farmer, to pick up a sharp object to defend themselves. A sword, spear, or bow is better for warfare than a pitchfork or other sharp farming tool, but the improvement in stopping power isn't astronomical. Anyways, the point is that if a tyrannical government doesn't want a population to not have legal access to guns outside of the police force/ military, it won't seem that strange to the citizens because their cultural history did not stress the specific importance of firearms.
@saxon1177
@saxon1177 Ай бұрын
@@onpoint2292 I agree with your viewpoint. I have to add that muskets were common among citizens early in America. They needed them to hunt and survive. When their own govt. turned on them, they were quickly used to defend themselves and if it weren't for that, the British may've won. This is why Americans are so adamant about the 2A, they know firsthand that your own govt. can become tyrannical. With the political temperature now, Americans are on edge because it appears their govt. is turning on them once again by way of taking away their rights and leaning toward socialism. The nonsensical attack on AR-15's, a common weapon of the times, as the musket was during the times of our country's founders, is an infringement of the 2A. They cannot be allowed to succeed.

I grew up in a rural farming family in the Philippines. In the interior office room of our ancestral house, a rifle stood behind one door panel. A shotgun stood behind the other panel. Ammunition boxes lined the top bookshelves at the right. When you live 30 mins from the police station, it's only reasonable.

Well recently my niece had a scare while her husband was at work, a wacko strung out on drugs had some kind of freakout in her backyard. We had talked about this before and I told her that IF she wanted a pistol for defense I would pay for it but she had to pass 4473. Well she took me up on this and she now owns a S&W MP 9EZ. I told her to make visits to the range to shoot it regularly so she feels comforable with it. That she doesn't do. But she does do something I strongly recommended. I told her to unload the pistol and when she is alone with husband at work and kids at school I told her to train herself to never touch the trigger, i.e. keep the "booger picker" out straight when she handles the pistol. To my surprise that she did. All weekend, she trained herself to pick up the pistol but NOT touch the trigger. She called me and said that now without even thinking about it she automatically keeps the trigger finger out straight. I couldn't be prouder of her.

One of my more savvy coworkers watched me pick up a nail gun and IMMEDIATELY asked me what I have and if I carry often. Asked what he meant. "You didn't touch the trigger. Only people I know that don't touch the trigger of anything they pick up are responsible gun owners." The good news was they didn't have to yell at me for touching the trigger on the nail gun, they'd had someone do that with a safety nobody realized was broken and he launched a couple nails across the job site and freaked everyone out

I think one of the MOST IMPORTANT statements which was said in this interview is: "You ARE the FIRST responder". Not the police, not the firefighter, not the EMT, YOU. If that is as simple as dialing 911 or with armed response, YOU, the individual ARE the FIRST to RESPOND to any emergency you happen upon. This is something that needs to be conveyed and stressed as point #1 in any type of self-defense class/instruction/editorial/news broadcast.

Because they want freedom and protection that is given. It is probably better for them to not have guns in a DV situation anyway. Even trained policewomen can be a liability with guns, because it is easier for a male criminal to wrench the gun away from them. Guns have a 21 feet rule for a reason, and a typical room is only 12 ft long. Wouldn't help a DV situation.

I have been a government employee for close to 20 years in two different states. One with a very conservative reputation, and one with a very liberal reputation. In my experience, most government employees are not bad people. They are just people. That means they are going to act in their own best interest. Not yours. Theirs. There are government employees who take the idea of a public servant very seriously, but they are rare, and getting rarer. There are also those who actively work against freedom. This type is also a minority, but they are unfortunately growing. But, remember, don't ascribe to malice what can be explained by stupidity (or apathy).

When I was younger and had moved back in with my parents with my first son. I was working at a restaurant in a mall while waiting to go to nursing school. I dated a guy for a while and then he started becoming odd and trying to be a bit controlling. I broke up with him. I told my parents we were broke up but not what was going on. He started coming to my job and trying to get me to talk to him. I pushed the drink cart and did refills and had to go by each table so I couldn’t just avoid him. We had a lot of customers who were regulars. Many were cops. One noticed something was up with me and started asking me about it. I told him and the next time the guy came in he was there. He called a buddy who was also a customer when the guy left. They confronted him just outside the mall door and threatened him with arrest. They told me I had filed a restraining order against him and he didn’t understand that really there wasn’t a lot they could officially do and they made it sound like they would arrest him and he would go to prison and he stopped coming to work. I went to visit a friend in town and we were talking about my situation. I left to go home and this guy, who didn’t know them at all, stopped at their house and tried to get them to help him “get me back” by taking me camping, getting me drunk and him showing up. He told them he felt if he could just get me back in his bed one time we would be back together. Her husband freaked out about this and they called me the next day to come over to warn me. He was afraid the guy would kidnap me given the opportunity. I came home from work one day and there was a cake on the counter in the kitchen. I asked about it and my mom told me the guy had came by and asked about making me a cake there and bought the stuff and he and my 2 year old son baked the cake. I was terrified that she had let my son go with this guy. She told me that the guy bought the stuff and came back. I told her that if she ever let the guy take my son off or anything and I was able to get him back that we would disappear and they would never know anything about us. My dad heard part of this and came to my room and asked what happened. I told them about the stalking and wished I had before but I hadn’t wanted to alarm them. Big mistake not letting them know. I wish that things had been different back then and I had a firearm for protection and just thankful the guy finally gave up. He even started going out with a young girl I worked with. I tried warning her about him without getting into real details and it only took her a couple of weeks before she realized this and that he was very much using her as a way to see me at work without “getting in trouble.” My dad had always warned me about being aware of my surroundings and other protection type stuff but neither of us had really thought about the stalker type people. Thank you for all of the information that you give us.

Some very good points. I’ve seen many of these things in my time as a pistol instructor. We weren’t even doing high speed beard and Oakley stuff and you could tell the ladies whose husbands dragged them along. At home, the “as long as it’s not you teaching me” is the outlook. However, that is followed by “We can do it later,” later never coming and then if something ever does happen and a knowledge gap is ever exposed, we see “why didn’t you show me that before?” Well, because you don’t let me help is why. I don’t bother with it anymore.

Ohhh, the instructors against permitless carry killed me for years! I always put it like this: You’re likely mad that the government wasn’t forcing students to patronize your business. From a business standpoint, I’m not going to say that I don’t understand but when you think about it, you’re still going to be able to teach that class. However, you will get to teach classes to a better set of students: those who want to be there! If anyone that has taught carry classes, you know the type of student there just to jump through a hoop so, you’re just babysitting. When permits are optional, you lose a lot of those types, fill the class with students who want to actually be taught and you can do a whole lot of things that typically aren’t covered in a cookie cutter class. From an instructor standpoint, that seems like a dream. All you have to do is adapt a lesson plan for this reality.

I lost the vision in my right eye at 14, i can still see well enough to see people, objects and movement but not fine details so i had to learn to shoot left handed, it made me a way better shot than i have ever been, the army tought me how to shoot with irons out to 300m i also learned how to shoot by instinct and i like to practice instinct shooting when i go to the range because in a self defense situation you will be faster, but i also practice shooting for accuracy for long shots and hunting. Also i had been telling my wife of 8 years that she needs to carry she didn't listen to me until she was working for a tattoo shop that allows their employees to carry, one day they had a very sketchy meth head walk in and wouldn't quit reaching in his bag like he was going to pull something out until he saw the owner with a pistol in his hip and left, they called the cops and they picked ole boy up and he had a gun in his bag, now my wife has a gun and goes to the range we me and carries, i even paid for her to go to a women's only shooting class.

I'm 54, and just got my first gun a couple of months ago (I was born on a farm, so guns aren't new to me, just never owned one). My wife saw me watching this, and told me that she wants me to take her to the range the next time I go. Thanks for this show, since I think that's awesome. I've already started teaching her how the weapon works and how to handle it without ammo at the house. I'm going to have her help me clean it after we shoot, so she can put her hands on the parts and understand how everything works. She used to own a 9mm pistol, but she never had anyone to teach her about it, and that's a whole different world compared to my 308 AR. I want her to understand why an AR is great, and get used to the 308 because if she can do that, then she will be able to pick up and use just about anything else, and be confident. I'm so lucky to have a wife that's enthusiastic about this, she's the most awesome wife in the world. I have a secret plan for her to go hunting with me and get a deer or a pig, eventually. I'm also going to give her money to buy her own ammo, so she can see how cool it feels to buy your own ammo, and so she knows about different kinds and what it costs.

The recent police shooting of Ms. Massy sparked a discussion with my wife. I agree with the sentiment that the deputy sheriff is going to prison. The disagreement stemmed from the fact that the late Ms. Massy was acting in a manner that raised concerns with LEOs. So this lead to me asking my wife to attend a class on how to interact with LEOs. We the people demand that LEOs are responsible, responsible, and well trained. OK, we should demand that the people are just as responsible and accountable in their interactions with LEOs.

How about women yelling at men and the men finally get tired of it and yell back? Like that never happens? I've been doing this in a big way for 42 years since 1982. You could say I am not enamored in the least with most of these newcomers post Obama. Everybody is a badass and a overnight expert these days with nothing to back it up. Back in my day we were all highly trained, elite, purposeful experts and part of a very small community. None of that has changed except for the internet and a whole generation of gun owners full of themselves and their abilities. Love it most when they try to "school" or "educate" men like me on it. You own a modern striker fired 9mm pistol. I own over 350 of everything in every caliber you can conceive of including DA/SA semi-auto, S/A semi-auto, striker fired semi-auto, revolvers both double and single action, black powder cap and ball revolvers, rifles all types and calibers, shotguns in all configurations in 12 gauge etc etc. Are you really serious with all of that? Wait until you find out it doesn't stop there.....over 1,000 knives, swords and tomahawks, archery in crossbows, compound and traditional bows, .625 big bore blowguns, high powered air rifles, wilderness survival, combat experience (yes I lived) master reloader and bullet caster, gunsmithing, armorer work etc etc. Needless to say I don't have much use for them...especially "super chick". Let's just say I can see through this girls smokescreen fairly easily. BTW...sorry to report hon that ARs weren't even commonly owned until 2005 -. We all had them back in the 80's and 90's along with M14s, M1 Garands, AKs, UZIs, HK-91s, Steyr AUGs etc etc along with many other things she never even heard of. You can tell by the way she sets up her AR rifles from pics she's not from that era. They aren't even remotely similar.....

City Streets in TX: Look at the history of TX, it's a cattle state and always was. Most cities began as cattle towns where ranchers would drive their cattle to market and the cattle took the easiest route. When cars were introduced, before there were paved roads, they followed the cattle trails which were later paved. That's why San Antonio is laid out like a spooked wheel.
