Alcohol is easily accessible in SA and alcohol consumption is glorified. So i expect these numbers to rise even higher cause the youth consumes alcohol like its water, and the diabetes is also not surprising considering how many fast food restaurants are available in SA and some that are being built as we speak. Secondly, i hate how alcohol is advertised in SA cause you will see these adverts making it seem like you cant have fun without alcohol. However the ones that truly annoy me are the ones that talk about spirituality and being connected to your ancestors...these people know who their targrt market is and they know how to manipulate them. What needs to change is people need to take personal responsibility, because i dont think an alcohol ban is going to do much good bc our government is very bad at enforcing its own laws. Liquor boards also need to be held accountable for giving liquor licenses to establishments that are so close to residential areas in ekasi and rural areas. This is also happening near universities whereby you will find a tavern right next to an apartment building and these taverns never adhere to noise regulations or curfews. Some are even close to schools so children are being exposed to this behaviour at a young age abd being taught that being drunk or drinking excessively is normal and cool because everyday afterschool they walk past these taverns that look fun and exciting.

This is a lie - Corporate tax and Personal income tax are way higher. Sin tax is not even 10% of the total tax pool.

During covid19 many lives were saved after alcohol ban and closure of so many tavern and bars. Drink and drive accident were few..... Alcohol has to be banned completely in South Africa or else make it to expensive to access.

One major thing is sports for school kids from a primary level. We did a study with CRC and found that high schools with poor sporting facilities are more likely to have a lot of students who abuse alcohol. Tax would be a bad thing as business owners will always figure out a way to pass on the costs. The first thing that needs to be removed is product placements in shows or the glorification of Taverns in shows mainly watched by black people. Shows like Uzalo.
