The whole point of kannadigas demanding migrants to learn kannada is because of the disrespectful behavior by the self proclaimed so-called economy boosters. And this doesn't apply only to the hindi speaking crowd, this applies to anybody who is Indian and doesn't know how to behave in front of kannadigas. They badmouth our language, land, culture and people as if they own our land. While the reality is that Kannadigas are the most welcoming people on the planet. They like integrating with all other cultures, they are polite and respect people in general. When they are going out of their way to accommodate a polite interaction for others and in return if they receive badmouthing on food, people, culture and land, that's when the topic of intolerance arises. Thali ek haath se nahi bhajthi, if you can't respect us why do you expect us to respect you. This is one part of the crowd, look at the other crowd that loves kannadigas and say that they are very polite and respectful.

Here an Awadhi speaking guy.. our second language is Hindi because it is easy to us and have lots of similarities with 15s of regional languages in north. Hindi unites whole North. While languages in south has no connection with hindi/Sanskrit. Why should they learn our language? If you are working in South India, speak in English to natives. There are so many north Indians there to help you in hindi. Just go to hindi speaking vendor for daily needs if you don't know English. Language is a matter of interest. Definitely agree, but hating tourist or a migrant labour for not knowing local language is wrong And people who lives for 20 years were mostly white collar employees who talk in English But one who get hated and targeted were uneducated migrant labour who came for 6 months then go back home And do you expect that a uneducated labour will know a different language ( which takes 1-2 years to learn) just to stand 12 hours as security gaurd or clean sewage or move bricks etc

My Friend , you have grown up watching Hindi Movies or listening to Hindi songs at some level since childhood - so at some level your conditioning was such that you were able to pick up the language a bit easily ( Yes, you must have put in some extra efforts , but it was relatively easier) People in North up until Bahubali got famous , were hardly exposed to Languages in south . Even today Many people cant tell the difference in between a Tamil a Telegu or a Malayalam and a Kannada by listening to it, as a north Indian it all sounds the same. Most Southern Indians are proud Indians, Our only stand is ONLY HINDI IS NOT INDIA. And every state should be given equal importance.Indian republic should become better version of European union. Just because German is the most spoken language of the union, nobody in EU says if you don’t know German you are not European enough. There must be a course on regional languages, any person who is going to settle in a state for work or any short term or long term purpose (non tourist) must learn the regional language of the state. Otherwise people in that state will feel ofended and its quite natural to be offended. Hindi unites whole north and even central india while we have our own regional languages. We never had problem with Hindi because we came for Nation, but then people really made us "Hindi belt" or "Uneducated belt who only soeak Hindi" while they can't name any of the north language, shows their education. Not only that, they force major dravidian languages on minor dravidian language people people like Tulu people. The problem is much more deeper. There is racial discrimination and South Indians are called even today as Madrasis and not given respect in many areas in North. Gradually people are interacting with each other and they are getting to know each others culture better. And thanks to social media and internet, more people are getting to know about each other. But the problem lies in the attitude of someone asking why cant you speak in Hindi if you are in India? This attitude is the problem not the language. Its the sense of some kind of entitlement because you are from Hindi speaking state and you expect people to follow your language without questioning even after they have been discriminated. Understand one thing if you can. Most of the people who migrate to other states do it with one and only one motive which is to earn better and have better opportunities for themselves and their families. Today if Mumbai has better jobs they will come here, tomorrow if Bengaluru has better opportunities they will move there. now its pretty clear and understood that if a person who's come to your city for his job , is a grown up ( Atleast 24-25 years old) The very first challenge is that learning a new language at this age will be a challenge ( Not impossible ) but one would have to dedicate a good number of hours and efforts to learn. Second: if a person has come to work here, would they focus on their job ( and also personal life , wife ,kids , mom dad, other responsibilities ? or focus on learning a new language jut to please the locals and extremists like you ?) Third: Lets assume that an outsider coming to your city works for a descent company, most of the companies culture demands them to speak in English, if a person is spending 8-9 hours of their time communicating in English ( And here even the locals , from whom one could try to learn the local language are forced to speak in english ) what modes of learnings do you thing one has for learning the local language? Do you expect that after working 10-12 hours a day one should go back with a kannada or a punjabi or a marathi learning book and spend another 1-2 hours learning a new language? or spend 1-2 hours on streets talking to locals trying to learn the language? just to please someone like you? Third: Some languages are linguistic relatives for example Marathi and Gujrati. Punjabi and Hindi So if one knows Marathi they can pick up Gujrati. But for a North person to even understand a south language is as good as learning Japnese or mandarin. And this is a real problem, people just walk up to outsiders and expect them to learn a south language in a couple of months???? Leave all this aside......50% of workforce in Bengaluru comprises of outsiders. Okay , you throw everyone out of bangalore because they don't speak kannada or they themselves move out to some other state. What will happen? Reduced income for street vendors , reduced income for property owners. less tax to the Gverment. if a city is thriving , its because of its residents and the business they give to the city in any form.(Bus, metro, cab, food joints, local shopping) reduced income for auto and cab owners. Also if so many people leave companies who have invested their money in IT will pull out and take their jobs somewhere where they have workforce, whos loss is it ? I understand if people are disrespecting the locals or their culture , they absolutely need to be corrected. If a state and city is giving me my bread and butter i absolutely need to respect it, because that's how i run my family. But if i am being harassed and overpowered just because i dont speak the local language, that;s bullshit Now do you want people who speak kannada just to satisfy your ego? or do you want people who might not speak you local language but respect the land and the culture just as much as you do. And who's responsibility is it to teach the outsiders your language? have you personally spent any time in educating or teaching any outsider your local language ? Done be a tyrant , make changes if you can.

@@Shantpaw Yes I know that in Bengaluru 55% of people are outsiders so as to say Non Kannadigas and yes Hindi speaking population is barely 5% for most of those so called non Kannadigas are from neighbouring states Tamil, Telugu, Malyalam and Marathi which make bulk of the population. They're simple books available to learn Kannada through Hindi/English or any other language vice versa And this applies to everyone, for if one is in Maharashtra for a long time they should learn Marathi, Languages integrate people

In kashmir we have kashmiri, ladkahi for ladakh, Dogri for Jammu, punjabi for punjab, haryanyi for haryana, Gujrati for gujrat, gojri, bhojpuri bengali, odia, northeastern languages, we also have regional language. But in any of the northern, western, eastern and Centra india we don't have any issue with language. But only people with south india have issue and ego with their language

Well in schools in AP & TG... we have the following options.. 1st language - Telugu / Hindi 2nd language - Hindi / Telugu 3rd language - English Only basically we need to educate more people with mother tongue and 2 official languages of India ie Hindi & English. Hindi gives you an exposure & English for jobs etc... Finally educate everyone atleast till 10th class.. to avoid this mixup

Actually, Blue collar workers from any state who work in any other state for a living should learn native language of that state. From what I understand more than south Indians these days its Kannada people.People of kannada, for example can start youtube channel that can help north Indians/other state people to learn kannada from Hindi/Telegu/Maharashtrian/Nepalese, this can actually help them make money from youtube too. But otherwise people can speak in english, if go to any other city for studying or white collar jobs. They would majorly be surrounded by people who could converse in english too. For talking to native blue collar workers, google translate will work, as it wouldn't be long conversations with them, only important small talks.

I live in Bengaluru, Karnataka. Here most of the shop vendors speak hindi. It's good that I know Hindi. But what if someone don't know Hindi. They need to communicate in English. But you North people can't even speak English well. So Bengaluru people are learning Hindi to communicate with immigrated Hindi people. But we don't want our regional language to be vanished. If North Indians are working in south india then they should try to learn the regional language. What's wrong in learning. We are learning Hindi right. And im. I am from maharashtra . When i meet any new people in my state so i speak marathi ❤ . But if he is frome northern Indian i speak hindi. And frome southern Indian so i speaks in English, And with locals compulsory marathi . If locals speaks in hindi still i give them answers in marathi .
