A lot of classes can also easily access free Speak with Animals. Karlach Origin with Beast Heart Barbarian, and Wyll with a certain pact can both get for free. I highly recommend people go with Origin characters, you're missing out on so much if you don't.

Speak with Animals is a ritual spell, and as of Hotfix 2 any class that can cast it essentially casts for free. Druids: prep it after a long rest, cast, then swap it out. Stays up till you rest and the game doesnt penelaize you for swapping spells.

FYI if you have 1 character with the Ritual Spell feat you can slot Speak With Animals and Speak With Dead as ritual spells meaning you can cast them anytime out of combat without consuming spell slots and access all that extra content (which is QUITE significant!) at the cost of 1 feat on 1 character but without the downside of spell slot consumption. FYI the game will highlight animals/dead who are "interactable" if you have these abilities; not all of them do.

Warlock is perfect. You only ever use 2 spell in fights: eldritch blast and EX. So first boons are agonizing blast and speak with animals, second repelling blast, with pact of the book you get speak with the dead, if eldritch entity is your patron you can read minds. And since all abilities come from Charisma i slay in both persuasion and combat. purrfect.

A tip: if you want to speak to someone you killed, use Disguise Self. People you've killed refuse to talk to you because they recognize you as their killer, however if you have Disguise Self active, they won't recognize you, and so they'll be willing to talk to you.

So, I met this stray once, and she was old and very thin. She would get closer and closer, and I thought she might be hungry. So, I went into a part of the woods she'd frequent and left a boiled chicken leg. She kept looking around, after I'd left, to make sure that it was okay for her to take it. The next day, I saw her full of energy and mousing. She didn't come back asking for handouts. A really proud, old fashioned lady.

Because if you've ever played a Larian game you know that even just the *hints* animals can give you are incredibly helpful, and that's before you get into how they can sometimes either be integral to quests or be quest givers themselves
