Blofeld could have been a villian who wasn't behind everything necessarily, but someone who benefited from the actions of Bond. A literal shadow/spectre of Bond, who has been climbing the criminal and government hierarchy ladder with the bodies Bond leaves in his wake, wiping out Blofeld's competition (Quantum) in the process. And in the climax to rub salt in the wound, Blofeld would laugh in Bond's face and say how in a lot of ways Bond is his best agent and might as well work for him.

And THEN the laptop deduced the hierarchy of SPECTRE, just from the ring? And if QUANTUM truly was just a "tentacle", the same QUANTUM that M said "who are these people?! How do we know nothing about them?" ...and a single ring placed on a laptop solve the entire mystery in a matter of seconds. Horse. Shit.

But spectre? Remember how crazy and mysterious quantum was in the first two movies, and the depth of their presence in the world was scary? 18:18 a big part of why the sequence feels off is because they keep going out of their way to break what little momentum they have. Intercutting between a high speed car chase, and the office secretary raiding the fridge in search of a midnight snack is one of the weirdest decisions that's ever been taken in a Bond action scene. Your description of the Rome car chase describes my issue with most the action in this film. All of it feels very restrained and hushed, like there are no stakes: the roads are closed off, there are no bystanders around to get caught up in the chases, it just doesn't feel realistic. It bothered me even more on the train fight: Madeline and the train staff all just disappear as Bond and Hinx tumble through the totally empty train cars. I disagree that the film is the worst in the franchise, and it wasnt as bad as I remember when I re-watched it recently, but the retconning, the lack of chemistry with Madeline, and the Austin Powers reveal do ruin the Craig era films.

@@BigPapaPenguin It's not about demanding realism in every movie, it's about being consistent with the established tone. Most of The Moore films set out to be campy/silly from the get-go, so the tone sets an expectation in the audience that silly things like the goofy gondola chase are expected. The Craig films' tones are all about realism and grit, so other than the one old man in his car in the Rome alley put in there as a gag, none of the action sequences feel like they're set in real, public places with a sense of danger. It instead feels like the characters are just tumbling around a closed simulation course. An example of an action scene done well on the other hand: Take the boat chase in TWINE. Bond and the Cigar Girl race along the Thames, sometimes knocking into police boats, wrecking indusstrial sites, soaking people on the streets, people jump out of the way when Bond pulls up onto land for a bit, etc. It feels like they're in a real place and that there's some danger to what they're doing.

You can tell the producers were overly excited and egotistical in a blind way after Skyfall's success. They threw everything at this film without stopping to think if any of their ideas were good. Feels way more like a film the producers wanted than what the writers and actors did. Mendes was clearly exhausted and brought down by this huge, overblown production. Skyfall was smaller and did everything correctly out of nowhere. There are aspects I love, more to like than dislike, but the bad is SO bad that it makes all the good kinda mute. Decisions made in this movie make you wonder deeply about how nobody realized how nonsensical it is. Feels more like another, bigger more corporate driven studio got the rights to Bond and wanted to make the most crowd pleasing film, blinded by thinking they know what the audience wants when they really don't.

The very worst Bond movie with " Diamonds are forever". Only Diamonds' title song is a masterpiece...
@outlaw50153 жыл бұрын
Skyfall did everything correctly? I disagree…heavily. My reasoning is down below, I apologise for the long rant. Skyfall is a pretty bad, and sometimes distasteful film. From the messy, non-sensical plot, to the silly home alone plan that gets M killed. As well as the pretentious themes. This movie also has one of the most mean spirited, tone deaf and distasteful treatments of a character in modern film. One of the biggest issues with this movie, is the treatment of Severine. The shower scene is really brain dead given the previous scene. How the writers tackled this character demonstrates why the modern Mission Impossible films are better than Craig's bond films. If Ethan Hunt promised to save someone like Severine and keep them safe, he would stop at nothing to ensure that promise is met. If the "scotch" line is bond suppressing his emotions, it's only for like a single shot in an over 2 hour movie and his introspection is unnoticeable. And a very bizarre choice. Additionally, they dug a deeper grave for themselves by making her a victim of sex trafficking from a young age, and given what happens to her… a clear carelessness in the writing room can be seen. Compare this with the blonde girl from the beginning of Rogue Nation, and how her death drives Ethan Hunt to capture Lane. As well as, the French Police Officer from Fallout, and how that highlights Hunt's "weakness" to Lark. Both scenes are short, yet do an incredible job at characterizing the Hero. Bond doesn't feel like an active hero in this movie, until it is too late. The film also doesn’t show him having any compassion or remorse afterwards. If Hunt was placed in that position and failed, the entire movie would be based on his failure. In Skyfall they just move onto the next plot point. The film disregards victim of sex trafficking victim(from a young age) and kills her in a super distressing way with the main “hero” of the story felling next to nothing. For most of her life she was enslaved, lived in fear and in suffering and in her last moments is tortured and killed. All this character knew was pain and suffering, only to die a brutal, torturous death whilst the person she hoped with save her stands there emotionless and uncaring. This is meant to be a Bond film, not a Rob Zombie movie. They introduced a character who for her most of her life only felt pain and suffering, and was enslaved- used as a means to an end. Silva does that, and so does Bond, the main fricking character. The “hero” of the story. He promises to save her, than he seduces her, but when it comes time to act…he just watches emotionless as a person who was enslaved for most of her life is tormented, brutalised and then killed, while the person she hoped would save her just watches emotionless and shows no compassion afterwards. Furthermore, Severine's bond girl is an outstanding example of wasted potential. Having a victim of sex trafficking as a bond girl can make for really interesting storytelling in a Bond film. You have someone who is very direct in Bond against someone who is very hidden and broken due to her ill-fated past in Severine. Perhaps in this way, Bond could of seen that his usual tricks and charm may not work and that he should not use them on someone like Severine. Their could have been greats arcs for both characters. Also, the actress, Berenice Marlohe is far more interesting and charismatic than the plank of wood in Spectre. I remember watching Skyfall back in 2012, and I thought it was the Best Bond movie. But when I watched it again a few weeks ago, I wanted to bail at Severine’s death. It is so mean spirited and distasteful. In some of the other Bond movies, the Bond girl dies, however the main protagonist of the story shows some remorse and introspection. In Skyfall… It’s nothing! I find it really funny that during the NTTD virtue signaling, they didn’t bring up the Bond movie with the worst writing treatment of the Bond Girl. Maybe cause they didn’t want to upset their overlord Barbara Broccoli. Hollywood Hypocrites I guess. Coming back to M's death. Besides the contrived setup, there is also a lot of wasted potential here. Maybe instead of getting randomly shot, she sacrifices herself to save Bond, which creates a great arc, whereby at the beginning of the film, she risks her agents lives, now she gives her life to protect one of them. Additionally, the film has the stupid pretentious theme of “Old ways are better”. The old ways that M didn’t trust to finish the mission in the beginning? The old ways that put false hope in a person who was enslaved her entire life? The old ways that got the most important person of MI6 and British security killed because of a stupid plan? Bond in Skyfall is one of the worst modern movie protagonist. There’s other writing inconsistencies with Bond, like the fact that he can’t pass basic shooting and fitness tests, yet gets sent on a super dangerous mission to capture someone who destroyed MI6 HQ and killed several agents. His failing tests are also the reason he struggles in Shanghai and fails Severine, but then suddenly he can take on three henchmen(too late) Severine was had already been killed,and he was at the same tactical position before and after, and in the courtroom and Skyfall house, he has marksman accuracy ??? Also, the M/Bond arc in Quantum was M trusting bond, so why does she not in the beginning of this film? Skyfall is probably one of the most overrated pieces of modern cinema. It’s a bad, messy and a distasteful film hidden behind pretty pictures. However, so many people think it’s a great film. “One of the best Bond films”. “A pinnacle of modern action cinema”. Anyone that gives this appalling film anything over 5/10, visuals don’t make a story, writing does? Skyfall is the definition off style of substance. All show, but there’s no emotion. There’s no heroism. I apologize for my long rant. If you did read all the way through- Thank You. Maybe I’m missing something, if so please let me know.

One idea that could've tied into the previous films is that, after the Quantum of Solace, the remaining members of Quantum went to Blofeld for help in continuing their operations. However, Blofeld, having his own ambitions beyond what Quantum wanted, basically reshaped the entire group into Spectre, resulting in long-time associates who were against him either being killed or, in the case of Mr. White, being forced to go into hiding. It's an idea that needs some fleshing out, but it's definitely better than retconning the prior three films into being planned by Blofeld all along. Or maybe, if we wanna have Mr. White be Blofeld instead, we can reveal that, after Quantum of Solace, he took control of the organization and turned it into Spectre.

One thing that I need to disagree with is the net. The net is installed in buildings that are about to collapse and set for detonation to prevent people who are working inside if the ruble fell. But you were spot on with this movie. This is the worst of the Craigs movies if not the worst Bond movie. I really love Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, Skyfall and even No Time To Die. But this movie is just joke compared to those others. It tries to be funny does not even have challenge. Its acting is wooden, script is lazy, there is no emotion. It really is . Mr. White could have been the ultimate nemesis to Bond. Even reveal he is Blofield in the end and Spectre existed all the time and all those others were parts of it and Spectre was above it all. So White climbed the ranks to the top taking it over. But this had so many potential that went wasted. And the side stories with M, Q are poor. It could have been another wonderful movie even connecting all of them together with Mr. White being the ultimate nemesis revealing himself as Blofield as I or you said and then show the big picture that all Bond did and he sufered for helped them grow and become bigger. And in the end this time we could have ended as it ended for Bond for once having Blofield inprisoned as it became. I was really disappointed and angry when I went out of cinema back then. I get it that Craig was suffering during this movie because of his broken leg. But there is too much going on. Action scenes felt short, there was no real danger and as you said there were missing elements or elements that were not connected. They did a shity job at this one. PS: Blofeld as Bond even adopted brother was stupid. There is so much wrong with this movie.

I wanted to watch this video, but you lost me at "the perfect trilogy of Casino Royale, QoS and Skyfall". It's not a trilogy. It was supposed to be a trilogy, but QoS flushed the Quantum (which at the time was considered the modern equivalent of Spectre) storyline down the toilet, and Skyfall is pretty much a stand-alone movie that straightened the back of the franchise. Literally the only continuation in these three movies is Judi Dench, but even the relationship between Bond and M is different in all three movies.

For me personally, this is the best bond movie for Daniel Craig as bond. This movie follows the formula of the other bond movies and pays homage to the old movies. The first 3 movies were the origin movies of bond, on him learning important lessons, and in this he became the bond from the other movies, the 007 that we know. Every movie is subjective and I respect that you didn't like it, but for me it's a perfect modern bond in the classic formula.

That should have been the focal point of the movie, if they were going down this route. The fact that Bond has no memory of this brother, no connection and above, he barely blinks when faced with the mother-load of all revelations. So, since he doesn't care about this. Neither do we. @@zanemagers7465 I’m sorry bro, I disagree. Yes it has great visuals, but a lot of bad movies have great visuals. Writing is where it matters the most in a story, and Skyfall’s writing is appalling. I’ll leave my long rant down below if your interested in why I’m so harsh on the film Skyfall is a pretty bad, and sometimes distasteful film.
@zanemagers74653 жыл бұрын
@@outlaw5015 hmm I see what you mean. Bond is lacking that emotion, I guess I let it slide because the character of Bond always seems to keep his emotions on the back burner, but he never really mentions or shows a second of care after that shot you mentioned when she's killed. Usually there's some sort of revenge aspect or a line reflecting on the guilt he's felt for her death. Also I highly agree with the death of M, it could've been done much smarter, maybe her sacrificing herself would've been a great loop all the way back to Casino and Quantum, showing her full trust and care for the 00 agents and Bond himself. Bond is strange in the movie. I've always felt that, from the shower scene to the marksman issues. I'm going to give this a rewatch Outlaw, I'll get back to you with my thoughts keeping what you said in mind, you've peaked my interest and I'm open to seeing the side of the film nobody talks enough about.

I hated Spectre when I first saw it. But I enjoy it more and more with every rewatch. It works a lot better once you understand what the filmmakers were going for. It was an attempt to bring Craig’s Bond into a more traditional formulaic Bond film. Blending the Bourne-inspired grittiness of the first half of Craig’s run, with the sci-fi gadget-filled world of Bond’s past.
@johndalton35183 жыл бұрын
Nah, it really doesn't work better once you 'understand' it. We can tell what they're going for, we 'understand' it but it's just badly done and doesn't really work. Blofeld is a rabbit they pulled out of a hat after 3 movies to try and crowbar everything in the previous movies into this because 'it was always Spectre because Blofeld is Bond's brother' or some nonsense. Besides which, there aren't any 'sci-fi gadgets' in this movie beyond a watch with explosives in it. Skyfall already had a machine gun Aston Martin. If you're trying to say they were attempting to make Bond as stupid as the last Brosnan movie, then I guess mission accomplished but does that make it better?

Why is this the worst review of a Bond film ever? Well, the first 5 minutes of the review complained endlessly about problems that weren't really problems. And then the next few minutes were complaints about more things that are not really problems. I switched off at this point because I couldn't bear the sheer pointlessness of the review anymore.

Really had no problem with Spectre. It was a great thriller from start to finish, with high stakes, good tension and mostly interesting characters. Bond's carelessness in the first few sequences pissed me off, as he did risk tons of civilian lives for nothing, but it's aknowIedged by the film and he does lose his job because of it, so fine I guess. I did find making Blofeld's bond's brother a little corny, but it's a classic film trope to make hero and villain brothers, so I guess i'll let it slide, as it's always better to have hero and villain share some backstory and connection to make the villain memorable. I do admit Blofeld was a little lame as an antagonist, but I really liked the fact this felt like a bigger story and conclusion to the many events of previous films, although it did feel a little out of touch for a criminal mastermind to spend his entire life setting up crap to make James's Bond's life miserable, plus the fact Bond doesn't end up killing him when he does get the chance (would you keep the guy that basically told you his life goal was to ruin yours live ?) ... Overall I don't expect Bond movies to be masterpieces of logic and villain motivations ,so all of this was fine by me. Personally i'm mostly angry at No Time to Die, which both got rid of Bond and the Antagonist and organisation ,essentially wiping the slate clean and giving us nothing interesting for a new sequel... Why bother setting up this big scary illuminati organisation only to have them all wiped in a single bio-attack.

So true. The Spectre meeting shot itself ( useless & eternal) made me understand the movie was bad right away. I was already hopeless. The “dentist” torture scene elevated the whole thing to another level of puerile nonsense. Yesh yhe acting was terrible all through. Too bad.
