I wouldn't really call card counting and Pokemon RNG manipulation all that similar. Card counting is the process of getting an idea of what cards are left in the deck. You're still getting random results from new cards, you just have a decent idea of whether what's left is good for you or not. RNG manipulation is more like having a deck of cards where you know there aces as the 5th, 17th, 32nd, and 51st card. There's a machine that grabs cards from the top of the deck one at a time and puts them down. You then try to grab the aces from the machine at the right time. I find card counting to be much more interesting and strategic.

I fucking LOVE voltorb flip so much and I wish they included it in all subsequent games. I can play that shit for hours on end, day after day (and I’ve done so before). I have accidentally maxed out my coins on several different cartridges and would have to spend them on things I didn’t care about just so they would let me play more voltorb flip...which is...the exact opposite reason why people would play voltorb flip in the first place (‘play it so you can spend coins on rewards’ vs ‘spend coins on rewards so you can keep playing it’). I think I have a problem lmao Most people seem to dislike it compared to the original slot machines but I can’t understand why. Even if you hate both, you can’t *lose* coins on voltorb flip, and there’s an element of strategy to it compared to just ‘insert coin, hope for win’, which gives you more control over winning. It’s still luck reliant, but you can GREATLY increase your odds if you know what you’re doing. Being able to eliminate useless paths, *using safe but useless paths as buffers* so you don’t get sent all the way back down to level 1 if you flip a voltorb, and counting exactly what multipliers each row/column will have deeply satisfies my troubled personality patterns I fucking LOVE voltorb flip. Please tell me there’s someone else on this planet who shares my affinity for it.

I'm a card counter as well as a casual speedrunner. That's a bad comparison of the two tbh. Card counting generally gives the player a 1% advantage over the casino (more if you use the advanced deviations as well). This is if you make no counting mistakes, use perfect basic strategy, and use a perfect bet spread. Rigging the RNG in speedrunning gives you a 100% chance of saving time using tactics that wouldn't otherwise be obtainable. Not saying it's cheating or anything, but card counters like myself have winning streaks and losing streaks and win in the long run after 1,000s of hours of play based on a small advantage. This tactic allows you to save time everytime as long as you don't make a mistake. Sorry, but the comparison is terrible IMO, as one is guaranteed without human error, and the other take 1000s of hours of play to guarantee a win in the long term with a slight advantage.

Both card counting and RNG manipulation can be seen as a form of problem-solving, as the player must find ways to beat the system that requires hours of practice and attempts from both sides. And while I understand your perspective, my main focus is to emphasize that branding these methods of playing as cheating is unjust and belittles the hard work and dedication needed to achieve proficiency in them.

Only real difference is that card counting comes in thousands of different scenarios and combinations with what the count is, and what combinations of cards come out of the deck. Speedrunning you generally try and follow a specific method to beat the game as fast as possible (even though things rarely go perfectly), and rarely do people shy away from the method. I agree that neither is cheating though and it's just using your brain to solve a problem. I just think that speedrunning in a nutshell is simpler than card counting. I have been able to get voltorb flip to level 7 legit. Maths and good understanding of statistics. Its for the most part not deterministic (sometimes is), so even if you think right you are still likely to hit a voltorb at some point. There are about 5 different articles I have read regarding voltorb flip, all heavy in math. But, to simplify voltorb flip in a way that semi-reliably gets you to level 3-4 would be: Row_value = points + voltorbs - 5 - num_revealed_2's - 2 * num_revealed_3's. When Row_value is 0 the entire rest (or whole) of the row can be skipped. And when in doubt its usualy better to go for where the higest point tile might be, rather than the lowest risk tile.

Yes. There are some combinations that narrow it down to only a 50/50. Most of minesweeper is pure logic, but randomly generated boards can throw a coin flip or two at you. Also the start of the game is complete luck. Just have to hope you don't click a mine and it reveals a good starting point.
