Why STT Charges MUST be 100% Abolished from Stock Market Trading?

Welcome to our KZbin video. Today we are going to discuss Securities Transaction Tax (STT). Did you know that the government earned around Rs 25,000 crore from STTs last year?

To truly understand STTs, we need to rewind and look at their history. Why were STTs introduced in the first place? It all goes back to a time when traders and stock market earners weren't contributing much in income tax, leaving the government with a revenue gap.
Currently, traders are paying a certain percentage of their earnings to the government. But here's the catch - whether they make a profit or incur a loss, they still pay taxes.

Right now there are few brokers who are charging zero brokerage on Trading like SHOONYA, Kotak neo etc but in our total charges we are paying STT, GST, exchange transaction charges and Stamp duty. Also we are paying Capital Gain tax or tax on F&O trading under business heads. Either way we should be paying STT or Capital Gain / tax on F&O under business heads. Or STT should be abolished as already direct taxes and GST (indirect taxes) both are there. This is good initiative. Every KZbinr should start campaigning on this matter.

Thank you for covering this topic which really pinches. Request you to run a campaign to educate channel followers how we can give suggestions to exchanges, sebi and Govt through their websites or through emails etc, requesting to abolish this charge. I had submitted a couple of such suggestions in the past. But may be a combined effort would give result. Very good attempt to highlight the draconian STT which should be scrapped. All the stake holders should also look at the transaction charges levied by the stock exchanges which is prohibitive. Recently NSE had announced its results declaring huge profits and very high dividend and still higher bonus shares. NSE as exchange is not providing any convenience to the traders who contribute their main income. Even by selling the data they make undue profit. They should reduce the transaction charges, provide free charting facilities etc. SEBI should immediately look into this and stop this day light robbery and ensure that more facilities are given to the traders and investors. In fact the majority of the brokers have done their best by giving capped brokerage charges per executed order which should be a model for all others.

So many algo strategies on futures get killed because of stt...literally pre commission if it is showing 1 lac profit after commission it goes below 50000 Also because of high stt volume is low, hence slippage is high So when we add slippage to the strategy profit goes down even more You are absolutely right STT must be stopped In no other developed country there is STT There is ONLY broker commission
