The Septuagint - the Koine Greek translation of the Old Testament - is the oldest, extant, complete text of the OT. It also dates before Christ. This is the text quoted by Christ and the apostles in the New Testament. Hebrew is the original language, nobody disputes that, but the Hebrew we have is not the original text. The oldest complete Hebrew text is from centuries after Christ, edited by Jews (who obviously, reject Christ) and changed the text in some crucial passages to obscure references to Christ. An example is Isaiah 7:14, which in the Septuagint says "...a virgin shall conceive...". The Jews editing the text after Christ changed this to "...a young woman shall conceive...", thus denying Christ's miraculous birth. This is why the Orthodox Church has never and will never use the Hebrew Old Testament, relying on the Septuagint of translations based on it.

To ExVeritateLibertas You quote Isaiah 7:14 . about the virgin. In the Hebrew it uses a specific word Almah which means a young women that is a virgin and a believer in YHVH Elohim. The Hebrew root word of Almah is Alm which means a time hidden, concealed. The virgin (Almah ) was hidden and concealed to protect her and of course she is a true believer in Elohim (God). If you do an Hebraic word search on Almah in all instances it refers to a young woman that is a virgin in the Tanach (Old Testerment). The other word for virgin in Hebrew is Betulah, the one that is normally used for virgin. This one was not used because you can be a Betulah (virgin) and worship pagan gods. So the Holy One YHVH Elohim used this Hebrew word Almah for a very specific purpose. Unfortunately when you translate the Biblical Hebrew into another language the thoughts and hidden Hebraic nuances are not translated for example into Greek. When a Scribe writes the Torah or the Navim (prophets) by hand on a scroll, if one word is wrong by the scribe the whole scroll becomes invalid and discarded and a new one has to be done. So I encourage you by studying Biblical Hebrew, your depth and understanding will increase, so that you can correct the errors of your past thinking. I learn from my errors. Hopefully you can also. Shalom Samuel.

Yiddish uses the Hebrew alphabet but is not a form of Hebrew as is suggested here. It's a West Germanic language.
