@@DARITVKOREA Thank you for your reply 😊 I was actually wondering how big are the classes at Ewha GSIS? The university where I’m completing my Bachelors degree has very small classes (15-30 people), which I find very helpful. So it’s also one of my criteria for choosing graduate school. I have already checked out the curriculum at Ewha, and I’m really considering applying!
@DARITVKOREA
@DARITVKOREA 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for the great feedback! It’s great that you have small class sizes at the undergraduate level, and I completely agree that it’s something you would definitely want in a graduate program. For required theory and practice courses, you can see probably see upwards of 20 students. For other classes that I teach, I normally have between 10 and 15 students. My smallest class (advanced topics, normally Ph.D. students and advanced Master’s students) was three students, so I have had a wide range even within my own classes. In terms of student:faculty ratio, you would be very hard-pressed to find a GSIS program that is more competitive than Ewha (trying to be as objective as possible ^^). Hope this helps!

Hello and thank you for the lovely feedback! I try to encourage you to pursue a field you are most passionate about, but I understand that you would like to link this to potential employment opportunities (and in general, there seem to be more for business). You actually can minor in another concentration while you are here, so that is one option. Also, there have been some students who have switched majors after a semester to better match their interests. Hello! Thank you for your message. ^^ This would depend on the university, so I would recommend that you check each program’s curriculum closely. At Ewha GSIS, courses blend cases from South Korea (such as corporate governance, national business systems, strategy), and there are courses offered by the IT major that include Korean Economy and East Asian Economy. This might be a place you can start to compare programs. Hope this helps!

Hello, Professor I have a question, I'll be really grateful to You for your help with that. I've been truly interested in the International studies for a long time. And I'm sure to make it to Ewha through GKS in future. I've gone through the requirements of Ewha GSIS, 2022 GKS-G. There, to get enrolled in GSIS, proof of English Proficiency is required; And I can not afford going out of my hometown to take IELTS, But I'm pursuing my bachelor's majoring in English one of my interest (languages) and my minor is Economics. To build up my experience and a good insight I'm working as a Literary Transletor as well for a retired professor (vice principal) and he's now a director of a company. And I'm a bright student since childhood. Not going too far, in my 9th grade I achieved 91%, 10th-85%, 11th-91%, 12th-92%, and in the 1st semester of BA my SGPA is 9.67/10 (96.7%) and In future I'll do better, InShaaAllah. And my University affiliated College is English Medium. And I've a doubt that "Do I still Need English Proficiency Proof?" ,I know that it's required but can I get a chance. My apologies for the long listed comment.

Hello Professor Jun, this is such an enlightening video thank you for the information but I have a question. I want to study International Relations for my graduate degree but I majored in Russian language for my bachelor's degree and I'm not sure if it would be seen as an advantage. I also have two other language certifications. Do I have a low chance because I do not have a background in history, politics or Economic?(I plan to go through GKS) P:S I am reading up on IR, the global world, and economic development just to expand my knowledge because I do not want to go in blind.

Hello! I think the most important thing you can do is to craft a convincing narrative about what you have done so far and how this will contribute to the program you're applying to. I would highlight areas that make me a strong candidate, and for those areas where I think I am weaker, I would show how I have (or will) overcome those limitations. Wishing you all the best!

Hi! We have students through GKS who have different undergraduate and graduate majors. The feedback from those students was that it was helpful to show how your undergraduate major prepared you for the graduate school major (there should be at least some common features that would show continuity), and how this graduate school major would contribute tangibly to your future career. This video was so helpful thank you so much professor! I’m planning to apply for fall 2021 for a bachelors degree. I have a quick question about the business administration major, are the classes entirely conducted in English? I can’t speak Korean so if the courses would be in Korean would it mean I can’t take this major? As far as I know the international studies major is entirely conducted in English. One more question I have is would you recommend doing a bachelor in international studies or business? Thank you in advance Professor^^

I’m so glad you found the video helpful! If you’re applying for an undergraduate degree and need a program entirely in English, international studies would be the major for you. There are many business administration courses that are conducted in Korean, so it may not be a good fit. Lastly, I would suggest trying to get an idea about how you would like to use the degree in your future career. Although this may change over time, I always think it’s best to gravitate towards what you find interesting and fulfilling - but also what can be marketable in the global workforce. ^^

I'm so glad you enjoyed the video! You would have to double-check if the GKS scholarship is available when applying to business/science departments, but it is certainly possible to apply for the Graduate School of Int'l Studies - which provides a Master's in International Studies, with concentrations in International Business, International Trade, International Relations or Development Cooperation. Hi! We have students who have graduated from undergraduate programs from around the world. Hello and welcome! I’m so thrilled that you liked the video. ^^ In response to your questions: 1. Yes, there’s no problem if you have a different undergrad major. The most important thing is to demonstrate why you are interested in applying for this field (research, future career, etc.). 2. Certainly! That’s a very important aspect of international business and one area that our program has an advantage in over others in terms of coursework and research. 3. Indeed! What I would do is to hone the question even further so that it becomes a narrow, testable research question that fits within the literature. As you know, marketing is a broad field - perhaps you would look at specific marketing strategies and how this contributes to a key measure of success (for example, are you looking at number of fans? Revenues? Profitability? Billboard ranking?). Hope this helps! ^^

Hello! The master’s degree is in international studies, but within the program, you choose one area of concentration. @@rshlala Thanks for the question! When it comes to choosing a concentration for graduate school, the most important consideration is how best you feel it will fit your career trajectory. If your background is in law, there are many ways to utilize this in your graduate studies and in your future career (so certainly you can apply for development cooperation or international relations, as you mentioned). When it comes to the job market, you may have to see what employment opportunities are available in Korea (and abroad) depending on your major. In addition to technical skill-sets, language proficiency (in Korea's case, Korean) is always helpful and something you should consider. Hopefully I can explore some more of these topics on my channel and feel free to keep me in the loop on your progress! ^^ 화이팅~~

Ewha does have a medical school, but you may need to check with the med school separately about entrance requirements. I’m also not sure if the med school is linked with the GKS program, so it would be best to get in touch with the department directly. ^^

In terms of earning a degree, only women can do so.. but we do have many male exchange students (either from abroad or from other universities in Korea). ^^
