I visited the store in Sydney today and picked up a pair of crocket and jones loafers. Walked around city for a bit in them and then I realised the insole doesn’t have cushioning. This is my 1st pair of expensive leather shoes. The cheaper shoes I used to buy from main stream brands like Clarks, hush puppies all have insole cushioning, so this was new to me. Will take sometime to get used to it.

You're completely right. It's a big surprise, it's what they call break in. But it pays off I promise! So glad you made the jump

Agreed with the video. I own a pair of Croquet&Jones Hardwick in suede and no issues at all when things get wet. This pair is actually pre-treated.

I'm glad you've had a similar experience! Investing in good suede pays off.

Great video. I find suede oxfords too informal to be worn with a worsted business suit (clashing textures) but can really soften a less formal suit or a mixed sports coat/trousers look. At the other end of the spectrum they can also be worn quite casually so are a really good second shoe if you already own a blank formal shoe.

I'm glad you enjoyed it! There's something about a nice pair of suede oxfords that I just love. Though you're right it may only work with the nicest pair for a fully worsted suit. Everywhere else though!

Wear my Crockett and Jones Coniston rough out suede boots in all weather in England, the more I wear them the better they look

Apologies for the delayed reply on this and your more recent comment! I have a newborn which has been demanding my attention. I couldn't agree more, suede and roughout are the perfect wet weather material and it does look so good with some hard wear! Especially waxed roughout.

Completely agree that suede is a massively underrated material from both a versatility and durability perspective! I think this may have something to do with the very low quality suede used on the ubiquitous Clark's desert boot... I think the suede used on the C&J mainline is CF Stead's Repello, which has a notorious resistance to water and stains. I have some Boston loafers in bark brown suede which I love to death, but also suffer from the 'death shoe' conundrum you mentioned.... Interestingly, I also have a pair of Handgrade shoes on which the sole leather is far grippier. Great work putting out the quality footwear message! Keep it up!

I think you may be right regarding lower quality (Mass-market) materials ruining the reputation for quality materials like that used by C&J. And yes I think it would be safe to say that it comes from CF Stead at a guess. I recently got a pair of Harvard loafers (unlined Boston) and also love them very much, though a dark brown suede pair wouldn't go amiss in my collection. Its unusual regarding the sole! I'd not heard of anyone else experiencing it, and none of my other soles have it! Stay safe out there!

The Westfield is a great shoe I would also recommend the Crockett and Jones Hardwick derby shoe in either suede or leather

I completely agree, I have a similar looking one from Carmina. A great shoe.

Phenomenal shoes. Crockett and Jones...are my fav-o-rite. I only own one pair of quarter brogue, black, oxfords. But man...the leather is supremely better than anything else I own. I do own a pair of Alden's oxblood, toe-cap oxfords, that are very close to being as fine a leather. However...the C&J...just feel a bit more exquisite. Alden is a good brand, the only problem with them really...is their styles can seem a bit outdated, whereas C&J, are typically more modern looking. Thanks for the video.

They're my go to shoe brand without a doubt. Theres just something about them that I keep returning to! I do love Edward Green, but the value isn't there. Carmina are lovely but the shapes are too European for me. And I love my Alden loafers and they're wildly comfortable but the rest of their stuff is... Well its nice. Hope to see you wearing a pair of C&J in the wild! Cheers

I'm 20 miles away from Crockett and Jones and Trickers, in this price range the best a man can get hence I own several pairs of both

cheap suede had ruined it for me. bought a hugo boss suede shoe. pure shit. after a goid talk with my shoemaker. he said if you are not happy with the crockett and jones i am going to pay the shoe price back. well i bought it. biggest mistake i have ever made. now i only wear the suede shoe. my leather shoes are crying because they are not worn like before. suede is my nr1 material for smart casual shoes.

Haha, its so true! There's something about good quality suede that makes all my leather shoes jealous too! Its just so easy to wear. So glad you found out for yourself!
