Well worn and 20 plus years old... is an expensive Factory Refurbishment / Repair worth it?
N.b. I didn't notice the effect of the re-lasting / re-shaping at fist but then I began to notice that overall, the shape was more defined. I also notice that the slight flattening of the toe cap (doubtless from people accidentally stepping on them over the years) is gone.
p.s. (October 2019) I have noticed that the two pairs of Crocketts that I've had refurbished are a little bit closer fitting than they were before. Not a problem and this may ease with time.

How bloody good do they look! A no brainer getting these refurbished. A 20yr plus age shoes (which you bought in used cond). Then spent £130 for them to last another 20yrs!! They call that VFM where I come from(up north). Great video by the way.

I've never seen a dainite wear through. It's amazing the age and number of wears for the uppers to still look as good as they do. I've had shoes age worse in 2 months vs those 20 years

I finally decided to smarten up a bit and Pembroke seems to be it for me. Not a full formal oxfords, yet for sure not the usual sneakers. Also, they don´t seem as "country" as shoes by Trickers and other manufacturers. The price of refurbishment seems appropriate. New pair though... 595 euro or something over 500 pounds is not cheap. I think I will have to go to London and try them. If they are good for 10 plus years, they are probably worth it.

I think they will last 10 years or more if looked after reasonably (with repairs). A double leather as opposed to rubber sole may be even less country, C&J change their offerings in this regard. I do recommend that you try them in the flesh if you can, there are a number of shops in London that sell C&J, so maybe contact those that have in stock the shoes you're considering and... make a relaxed and enjoyable day of traversing London. A pair of shoes that you enjoy, that last well, can be repaired and get better with time, offsets to original outlay, and don't forget, smiling each time you tie them up is part of the value you get for your money. Well worth in this day and age of mass produced sneakers etc to own footwear of beauty and craftsmanship. I love the idea of the original manufacturer restoring their product and giving it a new elegant lease of life. Great video. A cobbler Dainite resole runs $175 in NYC so 120 quid for a factory refurbishment with a new sock doesn't seem so bad. Lovely shoes.

I'm afraid with this pair... not very often, as they are my 'everyday' shoes. I don't mistreat them mind you, I just get on and wear them and they seem to be getting nicer and nicer!

Great video- really informative . I have about 6 pairs of Cheaney ( very happy at that too) but recently could not believe my luck when I snapped up a lightly used pair of Crockett's called Latimer on eBay for 50 quid and can't seem to stop wearing them ( I dyed them choc brown and have gotten loads of compliments ). Being honest , I do find the current retail price of Crockett's prohibitive and like other good brands ,they are hardly ever on sale . The other thing I don't get is why their standard width is E and not F like many other brands . I have wide feet so normally find G fits me best . Does that make them less narrow in general ?

In my experience, the C&J 'E' (normal) is about the same as Church's 'F' (normal). The shape of the last from any manufacturer, has some bearing on fit/size. C&J 'F' is a wide, though there seem to be some 'EE' fittings which are wider than 'E' - they may be vintage-ish though. Current C&Js seem wider than vintage, maybe people feet have got wider, who knows. Good luck.

Just a little tighter all around, due I'm guessing to the new foot bedding, sock, heel pad and stitching, taking time to bed in. Not particularly noticeable in the toe, more across the centre of the foot.
