If the trunks are outdated because strongman wore them 100 years ago, then the cape should go too. The capes hark back to English aristocrats in the 1800s.

I dont think its quite the same thing, the cape is an iconic part of his silhouette as superman while the trucks can be easily replaced with a belt. But i guess if its the “outdated” argument maybe, but im on the side of thinking it looks more goofy than outdated

@@covek4048 Horsesh!t.. For a start, the man is already wearing a bright blue onesie, red booties and a cape. I _defy_ you to tell me with a straight face that taking the trunks off all that makes him look _less_ ridiculous. Secondly, at least with the trunks, he looks like Superman instead of one of his many knock-offs. Imagine Christopher Reeve without trunks. Wrong on every level. Do you want to create a character and a movie that's still going to be followed ten, twenty, fifty, _seventy five_ years from now? Or do you want a character that's watched by 'modern audiences?' If it's the latter, you should definitely keep screwing around with him when every passing trend comes along. Start with the Nineties Mandarin collar, maybe a few Leifeld pouches, throw in some cool wraparound shades, lose the cape for a pop collar jacket, even rename Krypto to Poochie and give him a backwards ball cap. 🙄

When I see the argument of "no trunks it's (current year)" I can't help but laugh because Grant Morrison roasted those Zoomers multiple times before they were born in previous works. I think his most damning criticism was "What's So Funny About Truth Justice And the American way?"

as i dont care for both, as long as the design is good i will say this. in my opinion with trucks, this super human god who is capable of doing anything just looks more kinder, more gentle. with just the belt its kinda cool depending on the design i think he looks more serous and "menicing" in a way, doesnt look as kind or gentle. which for civilians of the universe might be more scared of.. if i HAD to chose id say trunks all the way.

My take is that even if you take the trunks away, it's still a man in a bright blue onesie with red booties and a cape. Trying to claim removing the trunks makes that outfit look _less_ ridiculous is patently absurd. At least with the trunks, he looks like Superman and not some cheap-knock off from an Eighties exercise video which is when the belt and unitard look was last relevant. Is it too much to ask for a Superman movie where Superman is not embarrassed to look like Superman?

@@illosovic What about him? Batman's very different to Superman. For one thing, it's probably covering the armored codpiece he's wearing under it. For another, his suit is theatrical camouflage not made for visibility. In that sense, it doesn't really even make sense for him to wear a Bat-symbol on his chest. For a third, there's no reason he can't be like Iron Man and have custom suits for different purposes, for example, a thermal suit for going up against Mr Freeze. That said, I do miss the black trunks in general. They brought them back for 'Caped Crusader,' and if you look at the Arkham Origins suit, it has a decent workaround; Bruce wears a black undersuit, the grey parts are the overlaid body armor and the crotch is left open for freedom of movement and junk ventilation.

No trunks It is iconic...But also kinda lame...The character deals with more serius subject now, and everytime I look at the trunks he feels kinda silly, so I can't take the situation as serius as I should. There is a big tone contrast. Like a firefighter dessed as a clown for no reason when trying to save people from a burning building.
