Anna, I wanted to mention, since you like working on Aluminum, that you can prime as mentioned, but you can also get annodized Alum. and then use any medium or paint on them. I grew up in a fam. biz. in sheet metal industry. The annodizing will make it higher in price, but you get to work on the actuall surface, which as mentioned, get that reflective effects. This is seperate from the dybond product, as it is not layered materials like them. thought id mention for you. The anodizing makes it able to work on, if I didnt make that clear. hahaha Stay Smilin'

I was so excited about the aluminum! Then I went to a yard sale this am, and bought a piece of aluminum flashing bout 10" x 4 feet long!!! Then stopped at a thrift shop and got some sheets of hobby aluminum 13x18" for 3$ !!! I have some high density foam sheets so here come some testing!!! I already knew about the watercolor paper on aluminum - didn't know about for oils ... THANKS! I figured out making shaped panels for acrylics by covering blue builders foam with fabric and gesso - won some prizes with them - shapes like animals and birds and even text ... facebook.com/photo?fbid=10224460632413636&set=a.10208079143686656

Yes, options, options, too many to choose from, and then you stand in front of some white infinity and don't know what you want to paint - called the big blanc - I remember art class as a 7 year old next to me this sweet little girl with a big peace of white paper in front of her and so afraid to ruin it and in the end, all she managed was a tiny little flower in the right corner - she gave the teacher a lot to talk about - "that she needs to express herself" - she doesn't paint any more she writes books.

This is so helpful as I am still struggling to find the perfect balance between too slick and too absorbent. Thank you!
@davypaul9827
@davypaul9827 2 жыл бұрын
Nancy you can mix in some powders that help with making it not as slick, just want to mention as experimenting is all the fun for me, hahaha. But gypsum plaster, or any stone dust, like marble or others. Im a texture nut, and add anything and everything, ha. hope it helps

Thank you SO much Anna! Any advice for paintings that were done early in my painting career on inexpensive cotton canvas, that have one awards (and I’m hoping they will last as long as possible)? Also, I recently did a painting on a surface that I’d done a pretty extensive drawing on, and someone suggested using transparent acrylic gesso (Liquitex) and the sinking of the oil paint has been a HUGE frustration. Hence the earlier question about oiling out that you were so kind to answer. There may not be a good solution for preserving the paintings done on inexpensive canvas, but I thought I would ask. Also, with this video, I know now how to proceed with more archival options. Blessings for sharing! 🙏💕

Just keep those paintings stored safely. They should still last as long as they are not being jostled around/constantly moved/re-stretched. :-)

Copper and aluminum are pretty soft in terms of a surface, if you drop it, it does not take much to bend a corner and totally ruin the panel... Acrylics will shrink over time, out of phase to that of oils. Not something you can reverse as with RSG.

'acrylic products - no animals are harmed in the making of them' u should take a look at how oil is refined. im gonna go out on a limb here and say that plenty of animals are harmed at some point during that process lol
