I've read all the Progressive volumes, but have forgotten the titles that went for each floor because they're all so long. The only one I remember is Aria b/c of the movie and it's the first floor haha. Thanks for the refresher

I initially was really confused as to why floor 2 would be skipped considering it being the real "start" of progressive. And while I'm still super disappointed since floor 2 was my favorite floor so far (up to floor 4). You really had some great points as to why floor 5 would come first. Personally I would've preferred waiting until the elf war arc was finished to then adapt floor 2 first, But I'm still ok with what we got.

Well, technically, without an official announcement of future floors, things are "straight up skipping F2,3,4. However the reason Reki stated indicates that they will very likely be visited, on top of the fact that trustworthy leaks we got mentioned there are more movies planned internally. Although in regards to Rondo (F2), I would urge caution regardless.

In regard to "Why not Floor 2?", I have a feeling another reason would be a logical idea that after the 2nd one comes 3rd, which would cover the "Elf War Arc"... which is still unfinished, so they decided to go with Floor 5 instead. I feel that way there would just be less pressure.

im just after finished re reading vol.6 because i got 7 recently. wanted a refresher, u did a good job explaining why floor 5. I wonder if floor 2 though will really be a movie i think they may just have it as a long episode and then have a DVD/blue rap release because it's not a long story. I'm really hooked on the Elf arc though :) I'm terribly worried our Elf girl won't make it out of this arc alive though :(

I still find it weird to skip. The time it would take to adapt floor 2-7 would be more than enough time for Reki to write the remaining parts of the elf war campaign. I haven't read the light novel, but people have said it's gonna end in floor 9. Also, floor 6 and 7 have two volumes each, so it's gonna take even longer to adapt it all into movie form. This is why I find this jump strange. Not a bad decision, just strange. Also, I would guess that it would take more than one movie to adapt a single volume, since floor 1 and floor 2 are in one book, but only floor one was adapted. I don't know the density of the other volumes after number 1, but I imagine that it's dense enough to require at max 2 movies (a movie in this example = the length of 1 hour and 45 minutes) for a single volume.

Agreed. There's no reason to think that the Elf War arc would not have been over by the time the movies "caught up". Now what's going to happen. We're going to have to consult forums and wiki pages to decode the proper order to watch progressive in if their not going to be in proper order. Kizmel is not a character you can just have suddenly show up later without explaining everything that happened and how her relationship with the MCs developed. Just more proof Progressive should have just been a series.

I know they don't care much for the Western audience, but I wish they released the Blu-ray a little quicker. Here in the west, Progressive only aired in theaters at one specific time for only three days. And I live near Miami. I can only imagine how less populated areas are affected. Besides myself, barely any of my friends were able to actually catch the first movie, and it's unfortunate because it has been months since release and I still am not able to talk about it with them.

You would be surprised how much the limited availability is due to the local cinemas unwillingness to take up the movies, rather than Aniplex USA making it available. We had the same issue in Turkey as well and I had the opportunity to have a lengthy talk with the licensor myself on the topic. In simplified terms, local cinemas simply don't want to have "a cartoon movie" that they are not familiar with, when they can just have that new crazy Disney/Pixar "3D cartoon movie" up and running for weeks instead. The only thing you can really do about it is to prove to your local cinemas that there is in fact demand for it, which is not a particularly easy thing to do.

It could've been due to covid, but when I went to the theater, there was only like a few couples cosplaying as Kirito and Asuna which was cute, but that was like ten people. These movies are such a mess. Should have just done an anime adaptation that was as close to 1:1 for the novel story as possible. If you are at all capable of reading, read the books, they are so much better.

In regards to adapting Rondo, I think it could actually have enough content for a movie if they throw in Reason for the Whiskers in there. I personally think they should have done that first, cause it would firmly establish Argo, would give backstory to the Martial Arts skill Kirito uses when he killed Kuradeel, and well just provide enough content to make Rondo a movie. Although, I guess telling us how/why Argo has whiskers after her first major appearance would add more weight to the mystery. I'm honestly just thinking from a perspective that covers the base of Mother's Basement and his sheep fans. We all know damn well he'll say something like "who the fuck is Argo and why is she important suddenly" despite her previous appearances in S1ep3 and the Aria movie acting as build up for her role, Aria's cameo especially.

Very likely to end on Floor 25 as that's where Kirito and Asuna go their separate ways. Also after Floor 10, I can potentially see floor skips. Not necessarily, but certainly possible.

Best guess? Because she's friends with Kirito and Asuna. Kizmel and the Elf War is CRUTIAL to how Asuna behaves around npcs and how to beat the floorbosses on some floors sure on F5 they only mentioned that they did the quest and then they stayed in the Dark Elf camp like they shown in the movie. but the whole changes they made to the second movies are BS. they should´ve stick to the novels, do a movie per floor and could still have it made from Asuna´s POV. the thing is Liz gets mentioned on floor 4 and without the Commander of the Dark Elf base from floor 4 they wouln´t have beat the floorboss without any deaths. from the countless funny scenes we miss because of the skip to floor 5. even in the first movie they changed the whole Asuna bath scene. normaly Argo walks into the room and goes into the bathroom what brings Kirito a lot trouble down the line. then the whole meeting on F5 was without old spiky head and the lineup for the bossfight was different too. ALS and DKB each had 2, Agil and his Brosquad, Argo, Kirito/Asuna and Nazha of the Legend Braves. then the BS with Poh, it was only Kirito he cornered, Asuna was waiting on the balcony and the whole necklace with the lv 5 protection she got from Mito not possible even on F6 they only get mats to craft lv 2 protection. the first movie was nice even thought Argo got the short end of the stick, the second is BS with only a few major scene taken but thats only my opinion.

Yes, Kizmel does have an effect on Asuna. However, even in your own example, the trait you are talking about literally has 0 play in Scherzo. Adding Kibaou to the meeting was in fact a wonderful choice and really highlighted how great of a character Kibaou is, who actually does want to help them but is stuck between a rock and a hard place. Lmao, Argo barging into the bathroom in Aria, that is unanimously considered a good change because of how terrible of a scene that is, especially considering it comes right after Asuna's attempted suicide. It works in the LNs because reading takes time. In anime form, that's literally 5 minutes after Asuna's failed suicide. Nobody wants to have a sexualized gag scene, when the bath scene itself is completely about Asuna trying to find positives in a digital world she despises. ALS and DKB each having 1 in the movie changes nothing. Nezha not being there as the joker card changes nothing. Despite the changes, they played off PoH scene wonderfully, showing how much Asuna has learned from Kirito in understanding the game mechanics and taking initiative etc. I really disagree with a lot of your takes to be honest. Not just the fact that most of them are nitpicks that don't go beyond "Why is this different from the book", but also actually fail to see the point and focus of a lot of those scenes and how some of the changes even enhanced a lot of them to begin with and added to the characters with wonderfully accurate portrayals.

The argument of "Wouldn't an Anime series be better" is usually caused by a massive false equivalence. People expect more episodes would be allocated to the same content, which won't be the case. The equivalence is that a 100 minute movie equals a five 20 minute episodes. And when that equivalence is set, we just know movies are the objectively better choice, as they are more lucrative for the studios, which leads to better products. On top of this, a movie is simply much more flexible with its pacing, unlike an episode that has to juggle its story into 20 minute episodes. Jumped to the fith floor because PoH (Who is Kirito's Arch-Enemy) failed to kill him there which leads to War Of the Underworld and his desire to wake him and soon after attempt to kill him. That's just my own opinion and why I think they went to the fith floor. PoH is a great enemy twoards Kirito so seeing more of his charater and the Laughing Coffin join in the movie will be quite interesting.

I personally think that probably after the elf quest in floor 9 or after the floor 10 they will get separated . Asuna might get recruited by Heathcliff .. and Kirito has always been explicit about his wish for Asuna to join guilds. And in the LN Kirito keeps mentioning that he doesn't have any knowledge to give to Asuna after the 10th floor because that's the farthest he'd been during the Beta. Also with the on going dispute of the two main guilds and with Kirito being put in between, that might also be a driving force for Asuna to personally choose to join the guild with Heathcliff, to lessen the tension between the two.

They reworked Nezhas story and gave it to an anime original character.disappointed edit: So, Nezha had a part in this arc but it was reworked and given to Mito. I was wrong to say that Nezhas 'story' was reworked and Legend Braves was also not involved. but his contribution was removed in favor of Mito. Makes sense to tie her into the main plot instead of a character not yet introduced but i still prefer to see Nezha

They did not rework Nezha's story. His story was back on Floor 2, in Rondo of a Fragile Blade.

Legend Braves were not actually part of the Fuscus fight at all, it was only Nezha, who was only tasked with hitting the crit spot of the boss, which is what was given to Mito. Nezha already had redeemed himself against Asterios on Floor 2, and Legend Braves had their apology accepted post-Asterios.

They have no clue Moon Cradle is largely disliked even by actual fans for example, which is one of the main reasons of it being discarded as an Anime. Most of them want to see Unital Ring adapted to see "evil Star King Kirito" because you are edgy when you are 10 years old, not realizing Unital Ring doesn't have anything to do with SK and won't have anything to do with him for a while etc etc. If we were deciding things based on Facebook groups, we would have been living in an even more insufferable world.

When you have a project that will likely go on for ~25 years, you really would not want to lose time. It's hard to maintain interest when you dont have a product over longer periods of time either, which is a massive argument against not waiting an additional year, if you can make it work without waiting.

Just watched the first movie. So Progressive is a thing, huh? It's a cool idea, but a doomed one. The movie side anyway. I can imagine Kawahara being able to shit out 100 LN volumes over the next 10 years, but who's gonna make a 100 movies? Get real. What's gonna happen is we're gonna get this Floor 5 story now and then they're gonna make the Elf arc thing by condensing the whole story into 1-2 movies. And then maybe if we're lucky they'll make a couple more... SAO is my favorite guilty pleasure so I'm down for as many as they can make, especially if they smooth out Kawahara's amateur writing in the process, but oh my god if you really think they're gonna make like 4-5 movies about one story arc...

SAO Progressive, as described by Reki himself, is the story of Kirito and Asuna's journey. That journey comes to an end on Floor 25. Your other takes are quite weird as well, but this was the most obvious one to point out.

@@furytheredhead9682 "The original story" is literally Floor 74 & 75 content. Everything is written retroactively anyways as the story of Aincrad was simply meant to be the clearing of it. Throughout the years via various stories, it's been established that Floor 9, the end of the Elf War campaign strains Kirito and Asuna's relationship, and they go their separate ways on Floor 25, as Asuna joins KoB and Kirito goes back to playing Solo, and stumbling upon the Moonlit Black Cats shortly after.
