Very informative. Power still lies with the users who exercise self-control in the use of technology/social media

Somewhat disagree. I will give an example from my personal life. I have no interest in using whatsapp, bu I am forced to have an account because everyone at my workplace have it. So I am kind of forced into it. Not saying this is the case for everyone and every product. But this is a conundrum many find themselves in.

@@davesprivatelounge but you still have control over how you want to use it. You can decide to limit yourself to office-related duties only. Self-control (not necessarily abstinence) lies with the user.

@@chukwudiibe4361 yes, but by being forced to use the app Meta now gets access to whatever information whatsapp is able to collect on me without my knowledge. And the reality is, we dont fully understand what sort of information is collected and sold by social media platforms.

This is what happens when you get so big and powerful, that you think you are invincible. Big tech has to be accountable as well.

whats stopping Indian govt from banning american social media apps ??? they can be re-made by Indian companies overnight.

This almost always happens with companies that get too big with too much market share, they start to push their weight around by monopolising the market, making it harder for rivals to compete and giving consumers less choice and at a higher price point, this happens almost every time a company gets into a position of power that they can abuse and they usually do so. I do wonder if laws and regulations should be different and based on market share.

You have to have 5 auditors who are based on differing interests and bases like how you use intelligence services to watch each other. In your mind always someone has to be supreme. (Authoritarian bias) In modern times though thats not needed and parallel establishments watch each other.

As the EU continues its anti-business policies, we'll see tech products/services that are specific to that region in the future to comply with their regulations. An example is the upcoming mandatory requirement of user changeable batteries in smartphones which may persuade manufacturers to develop EU models only.

That's why the young generations need to understand the concept of unplugging from the internet every now and then. They've never had a period of their life where they weren't connected.

It's a complex issue when it comes to corporations having enough freedoms to do what they want and consumers making their own choice. The problem is that I don't think it's a good idea to allow some corporations to get so big and powerful, that they control so much information that people have access too, that could become dangerous and could become a threat to democracy, in the case of the US, corporations already more or less run the show and have the government in the back pocket, that's only going to get a lot worse in the US unless the government and the people put their foot down on regulating them. Clearly, this won't happen in the US that easy, but pressure is building thanks to the EU and other countries getting tough on these corporations, but clearly, a lot more needs to be done, because if we allow corporations to grow unchecked, we are going to end up in a Blade Runner like future where governments are too weak and corporations run everything, and because of how the system is designed in the US, we are talking about a few hand-picked corporations that run everything, that puts all other companies at a disadvantage and that is too much power in too few hands that the public have little to no say in the running of them.

Instead of funding a company . Like India does in other field . Create a govt body like India isro ,BPCL,HPCL,sail,Gail, ongc ,etc it should create govt company and recruit software engineers like it does in above companies forech engrs, civil engrs, etc

India’s experience with monopolies shows that they are bad for consumers. They provide poor quality of service or goods, they charge the consumers as they please. Need for innovation dies with monopolies. I hope that india too will take similar steps without losing time.

So interoperability between government-registered platforms. Just the internet is their doesn't mean anyone can create an application and interoperability happens. It is expected to be a registered business with accountable people. And no money transactions are better. WhatsApp is a messaging platform and it's better to remain as it is and not become a financial institution by allowing payments in WhatsApp chat and interoperable payments as well via internet messaging platforms. Payments can be made via registered financial institutions' provided platforms. Internet companies should NOT be allowed to devour other businesses because they have the purchasing power and flexibility to incorporate many technologies in a small window.

Did you say Apple "could" charge excessive fees? Ha ha! I thought that it was already high as it is. Wasn't it that game company Epic Games that sued Apple over the 30% surcharge that they put on each app?
