Why Tenkara? Learn why people have been talking about this simple Japanese method of fly-fishing

I was introduced to Tenkara about 8 years ago. I thought it was ehhh big whoop. I broke my hand about 7 years ago and could only fish with one hand. I borrowed a buddies Tenkara rod and took a trip to Colorado. I bought the rod from him. I was sold, hooked, in love with the Tenkara rod. I have since landed a 23" brown on an 8'10" triple rod, been to 4 different countries with a Tenkara rod, and acquired 12 different rods.

Yeah ...... I was a fly-fishing nut....lol ... this guy actually brought it to my attention several years ago...... I now have tenkara "kits" in all my vehicles and backpacks.....yup .... when I think of all of the fishing tackle I used to have I laugh

Excellent video as always Daniel. Simplicity is what sold me and in my opinion there is no better form of fishing than Tenkara!

I'm surprised there's been no mention of this being something someone with a disability or wounded veteran's might be interested in picking up on. My dad has slight paralysis in his left arm due to a stroke. He can't manipulate a reel but I think he would find tenkara very manageable.

Don't disregard "dapping" with a tenkara rod .....I don't know why people look down on dapping anyway .....I carry 2 setups ..... 1 of them is ready for dapping....yup ....it's so easy to swtch back and forth with tenkara

Very true! Dapping is a great technique to use with tenkara. I think we usually talk about how it is not the only technique to be used.

I bought my first Tenkara rod and hiked about 37 miles into the great Nevada Outback. I brought some apples and an empty plastic jug full of my wife's urine for survival. I have to tell you that I was immediately molested by a group of hippies from Portland and I've never been the same. Never got a chance to use the Tenkara pole but I'm sure it's a quality product. 👌

Give it a few years. Fly fishing was simple, before glossy catalogs.
