This is really just an opinion piece, and not enough investigative work. If you have been reading news lately, you'd know Audi and other foreign manufacturers are waiting for battery prices to drop before taking an actual commitment to full scale EVs. They did this because when comparing to model 3 they are behind in the skid type technology and about $3-5000 more expensive than Tesla. GM loses money on every bolt sold that's provided mainly by LG Chem. Tesla won't have a problem in China so long as the price reflects the product.

I am a Chinese and working in one of the local EV company-BYD, even though these local EV makers share the most China EV market, that doesn't mean it has ability to compete with Tesla. Local EVs have lots of problems, people don't like it, they buy it because it is cheap. Chinese are getting rich year by year, especially young people like me likeTesla. If Tesla will lower it price in the future, elon musk will also has him another huge success in China, today's EV market like ten years ago smartphone market, Tesla will be next iPhone in China, I do believe it.

If Elon Musk can grab even a small percentage of that market, he will guarantee Tesla’s long term place in the global automobile market. It’s great that Beijing is finally allowing a foreign company like Tesla to own and operate its own factories in China without partnering with a local company. This shows how important Tesla and the EV market is to China’s future and Made of China 2025.

Tesla == iPhone. They will not lower their price - same as iPhone. iPhone is a well made expensive device. Tesla is a poorly made car that happens to be very expensive. If this is the case it's very bad news for China. Looks like yet again China will fail to jump on "let's- get -ourselves- some competitive- advantage- in -production- sector" train. Americans eveywhere and always do the same trick of selling shiny luxury goods to local people in developing country just like Cortez was giving away western jewellery to "Indians" (I write it in this way since he thaught there were from India hence named them "indians"). It never stops to amaze me that every time in each country people fall for the same old trick and allow USA companies to do with their local market whatever it wants. And it always ends in USA dominance over yet another economy. I would say China people would do better recalling that "it ain't all gold that shines".
@stc28285 жыл бұрын
femmeNikita27 Chinese people are not stupid. Apple dominate Chinese market for 10 years and is now slowly pushed out by local companies. Tesla can very well grab cash in China for the next 10 years, by the time they get pushed out Tesla stock already worth 2000$
@femmeNikita275 жыл бұрын
I don't think Chinese people are stupid. If they were we could very well end any discussions regarding the future of human race- given the huge demographic potential of this country. So let's be optimistic and assume Chinese people are not stupid. But I also woulnd't compare old-fashioned tech like the one produced by Apple with new tech like EV. In this case as Americans know well first camers may take it all for years to come. So it's really the matter of who will get to a particular huge market first- be it China, India or Africa as entire continent. And if tesla want production of entire EV for itself, Germany wants batteries for engines for itself what will be left for developing countries which will open their markets to Tesla and to German companies? I think judging from experience with mobile phones, textile industry, pc production I think we can make quite accurate and not so optimistic wild guess- cheap labour force and no taxes from profits in national budgets.

But let’s wait to see what happens in April when they report the numbers 👍🏼
@s.flanders5 жыл бұрын
@@2CommaClub You don't have to wait for April numbers to get an idea of what's going on based on currently available information. You can reject the narrative of the Seeking Alpha article but shouldn't ignore the facts presented there. Fewer than half of all Model 3 reservations actually turned into sales, and it seems that the "can't build them fast enough" story has flipped to Tesla struggling to find customers for all the cars they're building. Seeing lots of photos on Twitter of Chinese and European deliveries says nothing about the number of cars actually being sold in those markets. It's very easy to stay in the Tesla bubble where it seems that everyone either has a Tesla or wants one. It's also quite telling that Musk claimed that demand for the Model 3 is great, just not at such high prices. Of course demand is going to be greater at lower prices; the question is whether the Model 3 can be sold at lower prices and still be profitable to manufacture. Regardless, it does not appear that Tesla has any problems keeping up with demand. There is basically no waitlist to get a Tesla if you want to order one.
@2CommaClub5 жыл бұрын
Stupid Flanders There is still a waitlist for the $35,000 Model 3 so once they can get costs down more I expect demand to go up again. Everything takes time. 👍🏼

Years ago when Elon Musk announced his grand plans for electric vehicles, I knew already he was in the wrong country! He may have praised America's political system, but money speaks louder than words. It is telling that my predictions have proven correct: it is China, not the US, where Tesla's future lies. There are several reasons. First, China's people are getting rich and buying cars for the first time. They have no experience with conventionally powered vehicles that use internal combustion engines. They might as well jump to the latest technology, where it is clear that non-fossil fuel vehicles will be the future. Secondly, there is government support for renewable energy and electric vehicles that is sorely missing in the US! Look at how China has won the race (hands down!) for dominating solar panels and wind mills. China's government knows exactly where it wants to go, and it will use the government's will to get there. Bottom line: China has not been infected with the anti-government nonsense that permeates US politics. Chinese people believe in their government!!! China's people believe government has an important role to play in formulating the national strategy, setting the national agenda, managing the economy, building public infrastrcture, and investing in science and technology. Americans have a fetish with free market absolutism and absolutist individualism. Chinese still believe in society and its well being. Thus, when climate change threatens China's coastal cities, and desertification of its farmlands, China's government will act, with full support from its people. Thirdly, Chinese believe in science!! China has not been infected by a Christian cult that causes people to put faith in unproveable nonsense while rejecting proven science. China does not question that anthropological climate change is real, and that China has to do something about it to help itself. For these reasons, China will win the "race" to renewable energy and electric vehicles, because it isn't really a "race" - the US is barely even taking part. As for Elon Musk, the giga-factory in Shanghai is impressive! It is almost one square kilometer in area, and I read that construction workers are working three shifts 24/7 to get it built. Elon Musk should just see which side his bread is buttered and take up Chinese citizenship. China actually appreciates intelligent people like Elon Musk, unlike people in a certain political party in the US. I will not rule out that China's Communist Party might want a person of Elon's caliber to advice them on science/technology matters.
@myvids43295 жыл бұрын
I think you don't really understand the US or what it is that is available here which allowed someone as intelligent as Elon Musk to develop companies like Tesla and SpaceX. He is South African after all, many of America's best and brightest are immigrants.

I think Elon Musk knew what he is heading to. The culture of face saving from Chinese people is another key for Tesla. You own a Tesla, you should be from wealthy family or so. I don't think Tesla needs to reduce their costs to mid $10k because the Tesla owners won't be able to show off their class. Chinese people are getting richer (not all), they want to be recognized and they are willing to spend at least $40k for a so-called luxury car. Elon should make the EVs from 30k to $200k. I think he still gets what he wants. But 1 more thing: Elon, 80% some companies in China may want to "copy" your techs and ideas. Good tools - good person, helps others. The stated plan for the Shanghai factory -- for now, at least -- is to produce only the base-level Model X and Y for the Chinese market. This is consistent with what Elon has said in the past: that it makes the most sense for each market to be supplied by its own local factory. So there are no plans for Tesla to export vehicles from China at this time -- unless by "other countries" you mean others near China. That could conceivably happen within the current guidelines.

High taxing, trying to make paid salaries the same for every industries every type of works. Here you would find that working as a cleaner or bus driver is paid approximately 70% as much as consulting jobs or managers. And when this country wants to go green they simply cut the importing tax of Tesla and then heavily subsidize it. Then everyone would buy a Tesla over Toyota. Tesla shares fall 40% everyone else falls a lot more. Ford falls into the junk bond area. Tesla is still better than all the other car companies.

To be honest, building a gigafactory in China is a win win, it'll create cars that China wants in it's market, help Tesla production, and help reduce carbon emissions from China.

How in gods name would that reduce emissions. Do you have any idea how much coal China burns each year and to keep up with higher electric demands they will just open more coal plants.
