Most games do not launch with all that decent resolution nor FOV settings. This isn't unique to TF2 and is common across most shooters since modern FPS have been a thing. Not sure why this is seen as a problem.
@Aarmastah6 жыл бұрын
Oh hey, love your content! I know that a lot of games have similar initial resolution and fov issues, I was just thinking of potential reasons that new players could leave the game so quickly
@EposVox6 жыл бұрын
Thinking about this further - this is more frequently a problem with F2P shooters. Which, in line with your points, is a problem since the lower barrier to entry means more newbs/inexperienced players joining in. I guess devs need to work on better auto-detect settings. They obviously shoot low so players on any machine can get a smooth experience, but that can go in the wrong direction too. I'd say 480p was likely due to the Virtualbox drivers not being seen as real/good hardware, it usually launches at 800x600 or higher on new machines in my experience. But definitely something developers on the whole need to work on.
@Aarmastah6 жыл бұрын
I definitely agree. Additionally, I did notice that the virtual machine caused the 854x480 resolution, while on my native windows install it was also 800x600 as you stated

Isn't that just a "if others are doing something wrong its okay for me to do it too" logic? There are plenty of games that analyze your system on first launch, just because some don't doesn't mean it shouldn't be seen as a problem..

Min viewmodels look so bad tho. Also your first viewmodel example about stickies breaks as soon as you actually move
@npc_blob16096 жыл бұрын
I'm a bit split on Viewmodel FOV, since a lot of the weapons feel "chunkier" at 54 and there's no cut-off arms (also it better represents how the characters would actually hold them), but I agree that 70 is more comfortable and that's what I set it to when I first discovered I could change it. FOV, though, there's no excuse. 90 degrees is what it's always been in any game predating TF2 and under the Source engine (meaning that someone would have had to manually make that change??). 90 degrees is the most logical default and the highest it can be set to in any environment without distortion. At 70 degrees, it feels more like you're sliding your view along a flat surface. It doesn't feel right and it makes me feel queasy. But yeah, even though these may be nitpicky, they are small changes that would be welcomed and would help new players grow accustomed easier. PS pls make a video on how sexy the old viewmodel shaders wereeee PSS also the Demo should hold the Stickybomb Launcher with two hands in first person, it's tiny comfortable changes that Valve are making now (since the viewmodel animation adjustments), and that's great.

Just get the viewmodel overhaul. It has 2. I used to use it but now it doesn't really matter as I'm using r_drawviewmodel 0.

Old view model shaders were better because they had a different model type and they lacked THAT SUPER SHITTY ASS PHONG MASK (Ugly greyish shine on weapons)
@Architector_46 жыл бұрын
About 90 FOV being default - In original Half-Life 2 release build, it's 70 and can't be changed unless you do sv_cheats 1. In today's version it _can_ be changed, but it's still defaulted at 70. I don't remember much about other games, but I'm pretty sure quite a bunch of Source engine games have 70 FOV by default(except Counter-Strike games, and Portal 2 I think).
@npc_blob16096 жыл бұрын
Oh, okay then, guess I was mistaken. I was referring to the fact that the default FOV from Doom to Quake to HL1 was 90. I can only assume it was made 70 to give it more of a cinematic feel (which it doesn't imo).

damn this video is old but thank you regardless dude. I've been watching tf2 content for a while now but never could really get into playing it (I have around 150 hours by playing a few times between years) because i never bothered to get a custom hud or get into the more advanced part of video settings, but holy shit, after actually looking into those it's crazy how big of an impact it has on gameplay, i finally feel like i can play the game

Wouldn't FOV affect your gameplay by making it seem like the enemy is further away when their actually close? Also, what does sv_pure do? Unlike the last video, did you forget or purposely leave out sv_smooth, sv_smoothtime, and cl_interp_NPCS commands when discussing the updated network settings here? And are the network settings outdated now? Cause I posted this on the TF2 steam discussion and everyone was saying how bad the settings were
