The 128i 135i 1 series is what BMW meant when they said they wanted a Miata not the Z cars

Saw a 128i for 7,490 with 91k miles would it be a good first car for my 15 yr old?

@@VakushmarKumar At $7,490 with 91k miles, it’s a tempting deal for sure! As a first car for your 15-year-old? Well, they’ll learn to appreciate German engineering and might even pick up some new vocabulary-likely shouted while troubleshooting the occasional quirk. The good news: it’s fun to drive and a great intro to BMWs. The less-good news: they might become best friends with a local mechanic or KZbin tutorials, as a car like this can come with some ‘surprises.’ If your teen loves cars and you’re okay with some maintenance adventures, it could be a fun learning experience-just budget for a pre-purchase inspection, future repairs, and maybe a AAA membership… you know, just in case!

I guess it depends on how much you trust your child, and if you plan on paying for the maintenance. It's definitely an awesome car, any teenager would be lucky to have something this fun for their first vehicle. But there lies the problem, the car begs you to drive it spiritedly. It's also rear wheel drive which makes it a bit easier to lose control in wet conditions, something that's already terrifying for inexperienced drivers. I actually bought my dad's 228i last year as my 3rd car (I'm 28). It's been so much fun to drive, but I did get my first speeding ticket about 6 months ago. I've also slightly lost my tail making a turn on a wet road before the stability control kicked in. Definitely make sure your kid never turns off the traction or stability control because it will let you mess up. My car can take mountain road corners at like 45 mph, and the 1 series has even better handling. It really wants you to drive it hard and take corners twice as fast.

Get your child an AWD car as a first. Get this one for yourself and have fun! RWD could be fatal for inexperienced drivers especially in wet and snowy conditions depending on your state. If I had a kid, I'd probably lean towards peace of mind with AWD if I let them loose on the roads. But if you do get it for them, they'll love it for sure.
