Did 950 Adventure have a low centre of gravity?? Tell us why.
@36moto3 жыл бұрын
@@NachoGS hi there , the original Ktm 950/990 adventure bikes benefited from a low central mass which gives great balance. The V Twin engine the two fuel tanks slung either side of the bike drop the weight of the bike, as does the battery, a heavy item on any bike is positioned below the front cylinder and covered by the skid/ engine guard adding to the low centre of gravity. Do t forget this bike, the 950, was based on a Dakar winning machine, a full fat off road race bike.

@@motobob My biggest question is : Is the added 90hp and engine tweaking worth the added 10ish kg weight surplus? Cuse for me the 790 power size to weight ratio seemed as the goldy lock perect balance thogh i like the new black colour and the adanced electronics. also if it tned down to a2, if it able to as the 790 adv s, it is 50hp closer to the 500hp 35kw before, but ima light rider and my partner is light too, so the weight factor is very important for me, i would use it in and around the city, and also making smaller tours with it, for bigger one, we wold go with a camperan, so not to necessary, but if there is a problem with the van or sg and we have to go far for some reason, it wold be great if it cold manage the power. And im not a big motorway gyu.

Bought mine week ago, rode it for first time last friday, spent all wekend on it. That bike is phenomenal. Both on roads and off road. As long as you stay on surface that is solid and while offroad avoid as much wet surface as possible (those tires dont like wet mud, grass, sand) the bike handles anything. And that power, that engine gives you so much power, everywhere, anytime.

@@cloudjumper8868 , thanks for replying; is this bike comfortable and reliable enough for a long trip, say 5,000 miles ?
@cloudjumper88683 жыл бұрын
@@jblue1299 Comfort: It is an adventure bike so you can sit with your back straight, rather comfortable. I find myself leaned to front often, because the bike has so sporty feeling when you want it. But my longest one day journey so far was 450 km. I didn´t feel uncomfortable, I had no leg pain, back pain. I did buy new gloves after bcause I found out, that my old ones stoped blood circulation in my index finger and It got numb - so no bike related issue. Only thing - with my 185cm the top of my helmet is just slightly above the airstream of the front windshield. That makes noise and forces me to lean forward (down) above 100km/h speed to avoid the airstream. If you are up to 180cm, you should be fine and windshield should cover you no problem. The leaned position makes obviously more pressure on your back and neck and it can tire or even hurt in longer trips. After riding 450km in one day, I felt my neck - not hurting, but i felt it. I never experienced it anymore, probably because I didnt go so long distance in one day after or maybe I have been riding wit my body in more straight position. You have to try the seat, I dont mind the shape, hardness, body position, but everyone can feel it differently and only way to know how you feel on it is to try to ride the bike. Bike has several modes of engine response/power delivery and traction control (+ABS on/of). The street mode can be changed to "rain" or "offroad" and these are limiting the power response, so you can ride slower, more fluidly. Street mode gives you full power of the engine. You can feel more comfortable with different modes in different situations. I do like offroad while going offroad because the bike is calmer on the throttle response and I like street on the road, because of the punchy nature of the engine, easy overtaking etc. Traction control and ABS - I found myself in one situation, where cornering ABS and MTC saved me from ugly fall. I am sure that I would drop the bike if I had not had these electronic features. I felt them both interfereing to the handling of the bike, stabilizing me in the middle of the corner and enabled me to exit it safely. In my opinion, the electronics are top, usefull and worth. The lights are awesome. It is comfort, when you see and are seen because of good lights of the bike, right? Mirrors are on a good spot, I can see things behind me very well. Is the aviability of power counted as "comfort"? I never experienced lack of power or torque. Up to 200km/h the bike goes with lust for more, without hesitation and with no issues of wobbling, unstability or mischief (is that a word?). I didnt ride it faster. You have enough power to overtake basically any car in almost any situation (provided you have view, skill, surface etc). You are obviously not driving R1, Ninja 1000 or Fireblade, you are not the fastest bike on the road. But compared to 95% of cars, you can overtake them easily because you will have the power to do so comfortably. Reliability: everybody on internet is questioning the reliability of KTM. I have about 5000 km on my bike and I didnt have any issue so far. I know that is telling little. We talked about reliability with the seller and he confirmed, that it is often questioned by customers. He also said, that the amount of failures, mechanical issues and generaly problems of all kinds with the KTM bikes is not exceptional in comparison to other brands (he was comparing their bussines with other brands bussines in the country). The other sources (we have car bussines, we know people from different car/bicycle/truck companies and I asked their opinion because I was choosing from multiple options - Triumph, V-Strom, HD PanAmerica, BMW GS...) ensured me, that KTM is in their experience no worse than other brands in the terms of reliability, especially the newer models. The engine they use in 890 is based on a 790 adventure engine with huge amount of upgrades and improvements, KTM talks about it a lot and every review mentions it. I also talked to many people who own KTMs, noone told me, that they had some serious issue. If the issue was serious, it was always due to handling of the bike (droped in terrain, punctured tire and following crash, forgot oil change). I decided to believe them more than internet people, but I can not and will not say, that KTMs are flawless, without defects, problems or other issue, because I only know what I know from limited sources. On my previous KTM, the 390 DUKE, there was an issue with acceleration control - it didnt roll back to "no throttle" position, you had to use your hand both ways. It was on the bike from the factory and was replaced by the seller for no cost. After that myMighty Duke had no problems. That shows something, right? Note one thing - I am not a bike veteran who has hundreds of thousands kilometers under his belt. I feel it like I wrote it and maybe, other bikes are better in many aspects - I dont know, I dint test them. So aforementioned is my feeling of the bike without testing much of competition (or testing it more than a 10 km ride). I recommend to test the bikes and picking the one you feel is the best.

Which one would you choose between the tiger 900 rally (not the pro), and the 890S? Where I live they are about the same price but I think that in suspension, brakes, comfort, extras (heated grips, riding modes) and aerodynamic protection the tiger wins, but in agility, lightness, manoeuvrability and engine punch the KTM wins. I haven't been able to test either, but from what I've read I'd like the agility and lightness of the KTM, and the punch of the engine, but I'd like the tiger more for off-road capability, comfort on long rides and the quality of the package. Apart from the tri engine that behaves like a bi at low and medium revs.
@motobob3 жыл бұрын
Tbh I’d choose the KTM for off-road cos of the low centre of gravity. The tiger feels like a more fun bike on the road for me because of the triple, and also nicer looking and better build quality. So yeah - tiger for the road for me, KTM if you’re doing more varied riding.

Hi! I own this and about that windshield: I am 183 cm tall, when the windshield is in upper position and I sit comfortably on the bike, the air goes just to the top of my helmet. Maybe if I put seat in lower position, the air will go over my head? I have to try So far can say that I spent about half of the tank worth of fuel on 220km, that should make some 450 km on tank? To me the biggest factor between the two is the seat height and the center of gravity. If you read a lot of reviews, the biggest complaint about the T7 is the high weight and how easy it topples over. My buddy has a T7 and really likes it, but he does say it is very hard for him to handle in slow terrain due to that factor. As a new ADV rider, that’s a big deal to me even though the simplicity of the T7 and the proven engine are tempting.

Does this bike cruise comfortable at 80MPH? I want to keep up with the flow on freeway without bike being stressed or running to high in RPM. Thanks.
@HYDETREEWORKS3 жыл бұрын
I just bought one yesterday and did about a 100 highway miles speed limit 70. It will run 80 no prob and doesn't seem stressed. I came off a 690 duke and it was stressed at 80. The quick shift is pretty dope. I will say at 80 when a semi passes and gets in front of you the wind is way intense and moves you around a little, its mainly once they get in front of you

Hi! What do you think of this as 1st bike ever? Maybe to much for 1,69 cms with no experience on motocycles... Nice review as always!

you'll learn more on a smaller bike as a beginner, you can get this as the one after the first one
@robsonenduro33163 жыл бұрын
I don't think so it's good for first adv bike, looks into forums where you can find number of problems, some are serious like brakes failure. Last thing you want is break down on your first bigger bike.

Do the low slung tanks that protrude quite a bit on the bike have crash protection? Can crash bars be fitted?

@Slowlyoptomistic3 жыл бұрын
As a long legged fellow I can tell you it’s plenty comfortable. Granted I’m coming from a Street Triple, but my longest ride was 5 hours (250 miles mixed surfaces) it was only the seat on this that made me a bit sore. It was day 3 in a row on the bike though.

@kai-uweoch11593 жыл бұрын
Why complicated? You don't need to use all the electronic features. I have an R and most times ride it anywhere i street mode (ok, I don't do single trails, but a lot of unpaved and I am more of an explorer than a racer) but I can tell you the offroad ABS setting is magic. A serious safety addon. While other bikes just switch off the rear wheel ABS, the KTM will modulate the front brake differently and get you as short stopping distances as a manual interval braking action - always, on all surfaces, even in emergencies. And don't tell me it makes the bike more unreliable - except of the IMU sensor unit everything else is software, not additional hardware. ABS is anyway mandatory in the EU now, for a good reason.

@Topper_Harley682 жыл бұрын
Really, you like the Husquarna 901? Damn that is an ugly duck. I have the 390 but going to upgrade to a bigger, the 390 is 200 ccm to small. So it's either the 890, Kawa 650, Tenere 700 or Mv Augusta Adventure bike. I like the Moto Guzzi V85TT, but maybe a little bit to big.
