The 416 is a fantastic microphone. Thanks for the podcast

You’re very welcome. The 416 may not be my favorite mic of all time but it is a true, essential VO super tool. It really is fantastic.

The 104 is a sweet mic. Picked mine up for a ridiculous deal and it punches above. Very nice. The 416 is part of my travel setup simply because it's so robust. And you're so right about mic technique.
@MarkYoshimotoNemcoffАй бұрын
Right on! Thank you! You could practically get done almost everything with just a 416 and a 104.

Love hearing my old pal Don LaFontaine on the intro! Man, haven't heard his voice in so many years. Hush app is damn amazing, ain't it? Yet another reason to use Mac!

Hey George, where do we start a petition to get a Don LaDontaine statue erected at Century City plaza? Hush is a miracle wrapped in a promise, rolled in soy paper and topped with mango. Bet it’s the cause of a vibrant used M1 Mac market.

You're right. Beyond legend. Truly, if there was a V.O. Mount Rushmore, he'd be right there on it.

The 416 is like a tubescreamer. There's more elegant ways to do it nowadays, but it doesn't make it wrong.
@MarkYoshimotoNemcoffАй бұрын
Tube Screamer is a great analogy. 416 for up close VO work was probably the best accidental discovery since the invention of Buffalo Wings.

Mentioning two of my favorite mics in the same podcast, YAAA! Hope you are well pally. I promo what you do often (well, when I remember to) and your VO's for RNI get used every show, for which I THANK YOU once again... be well!

It's exactly like high school in the 90s except nobody is playing Limp Bizkit without getting a wedgie and shoved in a locker.

OMG, Mark, that fusillade of insults at around 18 minutes was worthy of the best of Cyrano! What does a 416 mic drop sound like?

It sounds great Mark and I was surprised by the emergency recording! Hush is still King! I love how you refer to the 416 as a supertool. That reflects my own thoughts. I think I sound good on it, but it's almost never my favorite and frankly I don't find it fun, but when you view it as a "tool" rather than fun, (and if you're really careful) the result is both well known and reliable. The proof of it is in the pudding! Thanks for this. Maybe I should use mine a little more!
@MarkYoshimotoNemcoffАй бұрын
Jar! That's a great point. It's not a "fun" mic. It's very utilitarian in nature. It's like wearing a prosthetic for acting. You can't play Quasimodo without the hump on your back and nobody said wearing it through the shoot would be fun, but it gets the job done.

Don't know if any one mentioned this, but they are also releasing the BCM 705 M in black as well.

For awhile I thought Neumann would stop producing BCM104, the grill was no longer manufactured as a replacement part (Neumann BCK Replacement Headgrille).
@MarkYoshimotoNemcoffАй бұрын
That’s really interesting. I had no idea. I wonder if they somehow changed the way they are made or where they are manufactured under the new CEO.

@MarkYoshimotoNemcoffАй бұрын
Me too. People who don't get why it works so well for VO are stuck in a delusion, wrapped up in a psychosis and hand dipped in lack of experience. The 416 is FIRE.

@MarkYoshimotoNemcoffАй бұрын
That intro, my good man, is just one of the many extremely cool things the late, great Don LaFontaine cut for me back around the mid-to-late 2000’s. I could only dream of being able to do that voice. My VO career has always been a tribute to my old pal who inspired me to try so I pay homage to him by opening each show with his iconic pipes.
