Harloff, the Russian Doll episodes lasted between 24 and 30 minutes, this is not Filoni's mandate, I know you are afraid of what he does, but not every mistake or decision is his fault. Having said that, I understand your doubts, but the point is not that a good story cannot be told in that time, of course, it is more difficult but she did it. The problem is that you don't trust Lucasfilm to be able to do it, which is understandable, animation aside, they haven't been able to prove themselves capable of doing it until now.

Don’t know why my comment was deleted. But it works for a lot of people. A lot of KIDS. My niece grew up with the sequels. Watched Clone Wars and Rebels because of Ahsoka. Each generation acts like Star Wars is this sacred cow of storytelling and whatever comes after is lesser than what came before. It ain’t. It’s great but it’s arguably kept the same quality throughout.

They want more visits to their streaming service, so eight 30-min episodes increases traffic more than four 1-hour episodes, unfortunately. They figure after people watch Star Wars for 30 minutes they stay on Disney+ and look for something else to watch. I think it's a monetary decision instead of a creative one, and that's what is frustrating. I have the creepy feeling this is 2.5 hours of story stretched out to 4 hours and sliced up 8 ways. The inevitable fan-cut "movie" version will be better.

I’m not terribly hyped or bummed about The Acolyte, but I am a little cautious. Despite it being a hundred years before TPM, it feels like it’s yet another “fall/failure of the Jedi” story. And it’s 100 years prior, but I don’t know that it’s going to look or feel that much differently to prequel era? Again, I don’t want to get too wound up before I’ve even seen the show.

tbh the 30 minute runtime thing isn't inherently bad. Ultimately it depends on the writing. I mean, the whole series will still be longer than a movie, and if a movie can introduce a group of characters and give you a good story in the limited time that it has, then this show should have enough time to do it too. It just depends on whether or not the writers use their time well...

It’s REAL storytelling the material deserves. (And it’s amazing) I simply can’t do Disney+ content man. They short change it.

I'm with Mike on the godzilla movies and discussion! I care about the franchise and really liked the introduction and tease of new titans from the King of the Monsters film. I was hoping the tease of Destroyah would come to fruition in a future film as a big bad. Monarch (the apple series) was really cool and fun and added some cool lore that made you care about the world in a new way. Wasnt a big fan of godzilla v kong. Would prefer things to get back to connecting and syncing up based on the tones of godzilla 2014, king of the monsters and Monarch the series personally.

I am completely over Starwars - and this is someone who paid and went to 2 starwars celebration. The content for this has been horrible with just some stuff being "okay/fun". Nothing has blown me away - nothing has even come close to Dune from the Starwars IP. Sad but I feel the same for Marvel- hopefully deadpool 3 can make some magic happen -but it seems like Ryan will crush as dead pool but the movie will be just one giant "YOU REMEMBER THIS PERSON??" - over it.

In a vacuum, episode length doesn't need to indicate anything. However, we've been down this road with Star Wars before. Even if the show is like Mando, a fun little adventure of the week with a broad overarching narrative, 30 minutes feels short. If you're actually trying to tell a story of a time that we've not seen before (dunno if it's covered in animated or books), 30 minutes is not enough. They will skip out on character development or world building and it will feel small, the characters will feel tissue paper thin. I would love to be proven wrong. I wonder if these shows not having any kind of angle is what's hurting them. Mando is a western, Andor is a spy thriller. Hopefully Acolyte has something interesting going on.

Hmmmm. I get that SW isn’t having a good moment and that the spice from Dune still has Kristian’s eyes with a blue haze, but Quinlan Vos’ name drop seems to be a big hint to this “Path” storyline that also has to do with Ventress’ appearance in TBB, and all this talk about the Ki Adi Mundi thing is exactly the same as when people where upset that suddenly mandalorians didn’t take off their helmets in the series. That was later explained, and I suppose this will as well. To be fair, Lucasfilm is to blame for this whole stink in the air.

Listen, I think the backlash that the trailer is getting in terms of the dislike bombing of the actual and the reactions is ridiculous. I don’t think it was a terrible trailer and I’m still open minded… but you will absolutely hear me on the fact that I am DONE with these short episodes and their 10 minute credits. Longer episodes for a small number of episodes is needed. This isn’t Bad Batch where they can do that. These are also all new characters and new storyline so we need that time to see them and the story develop.

So fans disagree on time frames, what's canon ect ect. People don't think prequel to the prequels work. Yet some don't like future timeliness. What to do? Should they reboot the whole shit? On the point of the young female antagonists - I really liked Shin but I didn't like Reva. To me, Shin felt like she belonged in the plot of the story they were telling. Reva felt like she didn't belong in the story they were telling and someone went, "Hey! What if this inquisitor was a youngling that survived!? And we add in a subplot where she is trying to kill/get revenge on Vader!?" Reva's character also felt like she was primarily there so they could expand upon her story in spin-off materials like comics and novels. The actress of Reva did a great job, its totally not her fault and anywhere else I think a story about a youngling that survived and wants revenge against Vader would be cool to explore but it didn't belong in a story about Obi-Wan that was already being usurped by the Luke and Leia subplots. I really wanted Obi-Wan to be an exploration of a broken man, a man who lost, a man who has l had his worldview/faith/beliefs shaken to the core, a man who had his entire world ripped from under him by his best friend and is told "it's all part of God's plan." I wanted to see the story of a man having to re-find himself, reckon with his own mistakes and shortcomings and reconcile his belief system with his real world experiences. I wanted a show about a monk who has lost his faith and thinks everything is over and pointless yet some part of him still trusts God's plan and through some adventure or whatnot he finds his place in that plan again.

It's not impossible to get great television from only 30mins but it makes it harder. I was willing for obi one and even Andor to be bad for this to be GREAT. Acolyte to just suck up their energy! Don't like the casting that much but the premise so cool. I'm reallyy hoping it's good.
