It helps that he actually pronounces the letter /t/ rather than replacing it with a glottal stop, as many dubious accents insist on these days.

It was an informative and wonderful historical coverage documentary about DDay .thanks for sharing. Allies utilized quantitive supermarcy in everything. Besides, allies' complete skies dominate, and French resistance efforts played a great Sobatage rule

In a masterful analysis of the crucial D-Day moment, this video examines the anxiety and doubt that preceded the Allied assault. The careful examination sheds light on the anxieties and fears that the commanders and men were experiencing on that tragic day. As so, it serves as a powerful reminder of the tremendous dangers faced and sacrifices made by individuals fighting for freedom. It is a true reflection of the bravery and resolve of the Allied troops.

Because of your accent, I deduce you are British. Thus, I find it a little odd that you did not mention Churchill's reluctance to approve of the Normandy landings. He thought we should simply continue in a northerly direction up the Italian peninsula and, I would assume, invade southern Germany through western Austria. In a speech on the Normandy landings, President Roosevelt remarked we had also entered Rome. The problem with Churchill's plan is that the geography of Italy, Austria, and southern Germany is so mountainous. An infantryman in Italy was more likely to become a casualty than he would be fighting in northern France. Churchill argued that our bombers from northern Italy would have a much shorter distance to travel to their targets and called southern Europe a "soft underbelly". When General Clark heard this, he said it is "one tough gut". Eisenhower was opposed to fighting in Italy altogether and called Italy a "Cul de sac". Napoleon said that there is only one way to invade Italy--from the top down. Also, you might have mentioned that Rommel left Normandy the night before the landings in order to attend his wife's birthday party in Germany, but you can only pack so much data into a documentary. Rommel also wanted to have tanks right down on the beaches, but Hitler said no. Hitler wanted them further inland where they would have more space to maneuver. Even two weeks after D-Day, Hitler thought the Normandy landings were just a diversion and that the main invasion would be at Calais. You're right about Hitler's lack of reaction on June 6th. After he heard about it, people who survived the war said he looked very relieved as though he were a poker player who had just seen the cards of the other poker players. He then ordered a tank corps to reinforce the Germans at Normandy, but, as you said, because of lack of air support, these tanks could not move much during the daylight hours. Hitler then showed his true priorities by spending much of the afternoon of June 6th talking to the Hungarian ambassador about the deportation of the Jews from Hungary to various camps. In 1944, almost all the Jews in Hungary had been wiped out. I have never found out what the "D" in D-Day represents. "Decision"? "Dedication"? Also, how come we did not have an aircraft carrier off the coast? We had them in the Pacific. How come there were no American Marines landing on those beaches? Another reason for the Normandy invasion was to keep the Russians out of western Europe. The tide of battle in Russia had reversed almost year earlier. Again, you can only pack so much data into a 28 minute video.

It's a misconception actually that the Germans feared Patton the most, in fact most German Generals did not even know who he was.

Also on D Day the plan was to invade a certain set of beaches. But then when they hit the water they went to a total set of different beaches. The soldiers were all confused. But they did that incase there was a breach in security. It was to throw the Germans off in case there were spies. And also the British were totally against it...The British and Americans disagreed. The British thought the Allies should take a slow methodical approach and invade by way of Africa. America disagreed and wanted to punch the enemy straight in the mouth. After awhile the American side said well get out of our way if you arent willing to follow our plan lol..
@lyndoncmp575110 ай бұрын
America DID follow Britain's lead in invading from Sicily and then onto the Italian mainland first. As for D-Day and Normandy it was mostly British planned, British lead and British supplied. Even though Eisenhower was Supreme Commander, Montgomery was commander of the ground forces, Ramsay was commander of the naval forces and Tedder was commander of the air forces. 75% of the naval vessels were British and 3 out of the 5 beaches were British Commonwealth.
