this narative seems to feed into the misogynistic propaganda that all women are dangerous witches. I've never seen a benejesirate that was a good person you can root for. Are we going to get any good character? worth watching or will everybody be "gray"...cuz I'm not interested in looking at a bunch of arseholes. I'll probably skip this series stick to Tolkien; Dune fantasy series has never been for me. At least GOT had some objectively good characters you could root for and cry when they die or turn evil.

Being able to keep their abilities secret for so long is a feat all in its own. Any resistance or infiltration they might have encountered…we know was not enough to stop them.

The real question is how some houses are so blind and naive to not question the powers of the BG. I think this will be a big task of the show.

It's sounding like a central theme is going to be a tension between the formation and development of the bene gesserit, and others who see them as a threat. I am wondering about the inner nature of the Landsraad, and their deeper nature. That family power groups can even persist, let alone maintain power over millennia, speaks to some stabilizing political structure, that isn't obvious from the surface level that I've seen. Considering the number of conflicts in the Dune universe, the long term stability of political powers seems a bit unexplained. It's possible that the bene gesserit could be part of that, with their long term planning and management. Just throwing out some ideas for what the series could possibly show us

My prediction is that Desmond and his forces fail to end the sisterhood, but the sisterhood (or just Valiya) end up seeing the value of his men, and shape them into an elite fighting force, inadvertently creating the impetus of what becomes the Sardaukar.

That really depends on how you feel about Brian and KJA and their books. The setting and characters are all taken directly from Sisterhood of Dune, and therefore the lore of the expanded universe.

People might rationalize their motives, but power is the end in itself. Everyone who oppresses or enslaves other thinks they have a good reason for it. Bene Gesserit capabilities could be used for the good of the masses, but that was not what they chose.

Valia Harkonnen came across as a moral monster in the books. I hope the show doesn't try to white wash that. From what I've seen in the trailers, the production values look awesome, And there are a lot of actors involved, who I really like. Emily Watson is one of my favorite female actors. But I am a middle-aged man living in the 2020s And all of the show creators are women so I am preparing myself for the possibility that I'm just going to get trolled into a coma. There was a male director involved at one point, but it looks like he got canned. So it doesn't look like there's a gender balance in the war room. That's not a hopeful sign. It makes me think there's a strong possibility that there are not going to be any admirable male characters just as a sort of middle finger to all the fanboys. Kind of like season three of true Detective. I really hope I'm wrong. I really want to be wrong. But the radical left has been on a rampage lately trying to dismantle popular narratives in long beloved stories. So I'm just trying not to get my hopes up. Although I'll often forgive crappy political agenda behind the scenes if they at least tell me a good story and don't bore me. My guess is that they are not going to show us a navigator though.

It's so funny to me that when the staff room is majority female the question becomes, "where is the gender balance?" While this is a more recent question/issue, it still rarely gets brought up in predominantly male spaces and I think it is asked as a way to preserve/maintain male influence/presence/perspective/power.

@@lath938​​⁠ Yeah I know people really think that but it's not actually true for the most part. Most men are generally not out to keep Team Woman down. In most male spaces, They are just that way because most women don't feel like walking through the door (most women you meet walking down the street don't wish they were in a rock band, don't collect guitars, And have not read all of the dune novels six times). And usually in those "male spaces " men wish more women would get involved. Not so in female spaces. Females tend to not want males to be involved. Women have a greater impulse to limit the number of men that drift into their radius of activity. And you can be sure, with a franchise like Dune, that there was a vast number of male writers, producers, directors who were dying to get involved and likely only a fraction of their female counterparts. The fact that the creators (as in the ones calling the shots) are ALL women tells me that it was not by accident. Again, the production values look awesome, so maybe it will be great. Lots of cool stuff has come from the female imagination. But There have been enough shenanigans in other franchises as of late to give me calls for concern. Men don't invade, commandeer, and censure the creative spaces of women for political/ideological reasons. I have a feeling you're trolling me so this response is probably a waste of time but I'm doing it anyway.
