The last S63 with the TU was the best version. You still have to deal with HBR plastics going to shit, oil leaks, injectors, coils and spark plugs. If it is overheated, the motor is trash and some of the hoses are impossible to change without removing everything.

Only problem is my nine year old, who just asked what would happen if we swapped in a k24a/k20 into our 328, has an obnoxious beat boxing habit and your outros are "enabling" him - oh well. Thanks!

Excellent video thank you! Also starting in 2024 the Range Rover p530 and SV p615 get the S68 engine. I am curious what mileage you recommend for the first oil service on the s68 engine and the intervals there after? I inquired with a few independent shops and was told that BMW “block tests” all of their M engines before they install them in the cars and so they are essentially breaking in the engines and flushing them out before they are installed, so you no longer need to do the 1,200 miles first oil change and could wait until 5k miles. I would love to know you thoughts and also how should you break in the engine, should you drive it hard or be gentle until the first oil change?
@4doorm35 ай бұрын
Is the S68 not a new block casting? They should’ve called it the s63tu4 or whatever iteration of this engine it is at this point.
@Cardboardcar9185 ай бұрын
Well I think they went the route of the xm, in the sense that, they know people wouldn’t buy an x8 so named it xm similarly to this they know people would associate the old problems to the new engine so they gave it a fresh name
@brarautorepairs5 ай бұрын
Changing Blocks is very expensive. You want to keep the same bore, stroke etc. Setting up a brand new assembly line for what is a niche engine isn't cheap.

@VanillaIceCoffeeАй бұрын
@ you basically need to go above 4500rpm to really enjoy the S58, the S68 M60i is programmed to start punching from 1600rpm so the power is here right away. The X3 is better on freeway for sure! Most of my driving is on city hills so I need power early. I just wish the M60i was programmed to shift quickly, too much lag between gears. The X5mc tho is programmed like the X3mc, power is only available high up and switches a lot quicker (on the same engine, turbo and gearbox…) it’s all about software

Is swap a S68 in a 2017 Alpina B6 relatively plug and play?
@WhatsyourForte5 ай бұрын
The biggest issue I have with the S68 is the fact that the rods appear to be similar which was the biggest weakness on the S63. You had to limit the TQ when tuning or you would bend a rod. The rods would bend before the turbos were maxxed out.
@kern4175 ай бұрын
@@WhatsyourForte yeah man, idk that the rod bearings and crank stuff that they improved were a limiting factor. But i guess because now an Alpina X7 comes with more power than an F90 CS, we can hope it holds up better
