Why the Canterlot Guards don't protect Celestia (MLP Theory)

@@WindStriker I got a theory that I’ve been thinking about for awhile now and I’d like your input on it. It’s Spike related, so I hope you enjoy it. Now we all know that Spike is Twilight’s assistant and helps her out. One way being delivering Twilight’s letters to Princess Celestia via his magical flamethrower breath. Now if I remember correctly, it was never explained in the series how he was able to do this. At first I thought that maybe it was a spell that Twilight taught him to help her with delivering her letters. But then I realized that only unicorns are able to use magic. So that got me thinking. What if Spike wasn’t taught how to transport letters from one place to another, but it was an ability that he was born being able to do, for an entirely different purpose. In the episode Dragonshy, the dragon was found napping on a large pile of gold and jewels. Now we know for a fact that dragons are materialistic creatures, and that the dragon would not just leave his hoard after being told to leave the area, and that dragons are not equipped to carry all of their hoard at once. So how do they go about moving their hoard from one cave to another? This is where Spikes transporting flamethrower breath comes in. I believe the way it works is that Spike pictures where he wants the letter to go, breathes his flame onto it, and it’s magically sent to its intended location. Now I believe that it’ll only work if it’s someplace that Spike has been to before and can clearly picture. Now if my theory is correct, then what happens when a dragon needs to move his hoard to a new cave is this. When a dragon decides to relocate to another cave, either due to him/her growing too big for the cave, his or hers hoard becoming too large for the cave, or something else makes him or her decide to change caves, they’ll fly off in search of a new cave to inhabit. Once they find a cave that will suit their needs they’ll take the time to get a good mental picture of it, then return to their hoard. Once there they’ll picture the new cave in their minds and then blow their flames over their hoards, which will be immediately transported to the new cave. So, that’s my theory. What do you think?

I think that makes a lot of sense Because When nightmare moon, Discord, Chrysalis, And king Sombra returned They were no Guards in Site. So it must be Possible That the Royal guards were getting the ponies to safety While the heroes do the hard work. Great theory!

As far as I can tell the only time large numbers of guards are seen was during "The Cutie Remark, Pt. 1" during the Sombra Timeline as you see Celestia leading the Royal Guards and fighting off Sombra's controlled Crystal Ponies. If going based on the size of Equestria and the "protection of Equestria" as their role then it wuld make sense there are few guards seen anywere else at any time, but with Cantelot being the "capitol" of Equestria it would make sense for most of the guards to be there just to ensure it's kept protected

That does make a lot of sense ^^ They clearly had some change of policy after the episode 'Sparkle's Seven' given the more active role of the guards, though I could definitely see Celestia doing something like that early on.

Your theory makes some sense, however During the “Canterlot Wedding” there were a lot of guards present to protect the city. The only changeling to infiltrate the city was Chrysalis. The other changelings were outside the protection barrier set up by Shinning Armor. The spy infiltration tactics weren’t used until the end of S6 in the 2 part episodes “To Where and Back Again”.

Not necessarily. It's possible that chrysalis and a few other changelings had already infiltrated Canterlot before the shield was in place. Otherwise, chrysalis wouldn't have been able to parade as Cadance.

Another possiblity I can think of is that after a millenium of peace, the royal guards' presence just became more of a performance.

That makes sense given that outside of "Rarity Investigates" or "Sweet and Elite" the majority of times the guards are seen they're either fighting to protect somepony or guarding Canterlot. "Sweet and Elite" shows a grey-furred unicorn acting as a bouncer for Fancy Pants' VIP box and "Rarity Investigates" shows three white-furred nicorn guards being questioned by Rarity after Rainbow's accused of sabotage. I'm sure they're supposed to be there, but the Wonderbolts were also supposed to be the Equestrian Air Force after Nightmare Moon's banishment and then became celebrities and outside of threats neither grop really does anything but act like they're for show

Your theory about the reason why the Royal Guards aren't around might explain the same question that I have been asking since the series finale of MLP:FIM. My question is: Where are the Cutie Mark Crusaders when all of Equestria are assembled? How come they didn't play their part at the Friendship Speech? You might make a video about that or give out your answer.

If I remember correctly in first episode they tried to arrest Nightmare Moon. It makes sense for me if they are kind of secret service: watching the crowd, reporting any potential threats and controlling any social events (to weed out ponies, who can cause trouble). Also for protection from conventional threats (like mobs etc.) But they can't do shit against some eldrich lord of darkness so in this case they scatter to: 1. save themselves 2. help common ponies 3. gather intelligence on what happened, where villian went and what their next move might be.

Well I don't think they were in there when nightmare moon returned. Because they weren't shown to be with the princess in that episode. Especially when Celestia vanished. As for the Canterlot wedding, I mentioned that in the video.

For example, no pony knew about nightmare moon back then. So, she would've been seen as a normal threat. But yeah, you were right about the nightmare moon thing. Good work ^^

Great video. If you’re looking for new ideas for future videos, I suggest doing one about Fluttershy and Discord being a couple in the last problem. I mean it very obvious that Discord has feelings for Fluttershy and Fluttershy has feelings for him. In the last problem they are shown to be married and living together. I wouldn’t be surprised if they had kids too. If you want to make that video, it would make me and other Fluttercord fans really happy. So please take this into consideration. @@WindStriker two points in favor of the theory that Fluttershy and Discord are a couple: 1: Fluttershy meets up with her friends by stepping out of a Discord portal and Discord gives her a packed lunch. That heavily implies that they are living together, which married couples tend to do. 1: when Discord almost kills himself by trying to be normal for fluttershy, at every single turn Fluttershy predicts the chaos that will surround Discord, like the singing tea and the layout of Discord's house. 1: the season 5 comic appearance of Discord shows him still mourning the loss of Fluttershy, but I think this third point is unnecessary in the face of the other two.

That's possible. But then why would Celestia have the guards stationed outside of Sugar Cube Corner when she visited Ponyville in the episode "A bird in the hoof" Keeping a few guards with her wouldn't stop others from attacking Ponyville. And while feinting a strong army would keep others out, after the changeling invasion, others would've seen the kingdom as weak for having fake guards, making it ripe for attacks. I do like Sawtooth's theory but I don't really agree with it because there are just too many holes in it.

Hey Striker! I have a theory that you might want to work on. If you look at the 2nd episode of season 1 you get a clear shot of there being 6 element ‘spheres’ on the pedestal but when Pinkie counts the elements there’s only 5. Twilight mentions that when the 5 elements are present, a spark occurs so that 7th element is irrelevant then. But then in SECRET OF MY EXCESS you see Spike hoarding a lot of stuff and in one particular shot you can see the seventh element ( not destroyed) which makes me think : if the mane 6 found the elements that were destined to them and they couldn’t find the seventh which might mean that because spike could find that Element that he was destined to it. You might want to look at the Dr Wolf videos for more details Amazing content btw

That theory make sense, it's definitely in accordance with Celestia personnality and the fact that with her powers, she doesn't need much protection unlike her much weaker subjects. Though they were also no where to be seen when the Storm King invaded Canterlot. Of course, the real reason is probably that the developper couldn't be bothered with making them useful XD

The REAL reason is something called Worf's effect, a character or a group is made so they will be theorically strong, that way when they're defeated by a new villain people will be like "Oh they got beat by this new villain! So the villain may be strong", this happens with Vegeta from DBZ and the ANBUs from Naruto

I think the 2 guards are there because they were supposed to be the backup they are mainly seen at the entrance when they heard that princess was defeated they tried to get there but there were to many changelings so that's why we see 2 guards they were the backup team

I think the guards protect celestia, but don't interfeare in battles because: 1. they wouldn't make a difference, becouse Celestine would easily defeat a weak enemy, but they coudnl't help her with a strong ememy, exept of bringing themselves in danger. But Celestine must sleep 8 hours a day and can't guard her palace (and all the secrets by herselfe). She need guards to prevent assasins from coming and preparing themselves.
