The smart watch thing is the best comparison in my opinion. There's a reason why no other smartwatch can compete on iOS. Apple intentionally restricts developers from being able to use basic features the Apple watch can use. Forcing their own dominance. Just like with Internet explorer back then. They do this with all types of accessories and other things

I absolutely believe Apple act in a monopolistic way as it pertains to the iPhone. You can only download applications from the App Store where developers are forced to kick back 30% of app revenue to Apple. This also leads to certain apps being unavailable because they don't follow Apple's rules. You can also only install browsers that are based on the Safari WebKit. Apple claim these measures are for muh security. I 100% agree. They are very concerned about securing more of your money into their pockets. And none of this bullshit exists in the MacOS ecosystem. You can install any app you want from wherever you want. I think the government is going about this completely the wrong way, though. I'd feel more comfortable with our government introducing new laws and regulations over time that made it so smartphones in general have to have more open software marketplaces from which you can install software of your choosing like they did in the EU with the digital markets act. Then have RCS be a minimum standard to replace SMS and MMS which Apple are already implementing. The green bubbles I couldn't care less about since I already use several different chat apps.

I agree, I don’t know why people are fighting for bubble colors when there’s more layers here. I’m ok with Apple being different. They always have been and that’s why I prefer their eco system
