Right up to the point the turbo bearings went bad OR the electronics failed. hell GM couldn't even work on these cars unless they sent an Engineer from the factory cause the meatfisted eggheads turning wrenches never could get it right. And if it is out of warranty, Hope you know a Mechanical Scientist ............ THAT'S why they never sold well. Hell Buick did the same thing with the Grand National in the middle 80's that is a living legend to this day. GM tried to put that into a truck AND an SUV, both great smash hits for tech, but no sell in showroom.
@jeffscott3160
@jeffscott3160 Жыл бұрын
@@anonimous2451 These didn't sell that many units due to their price point as most people back then purchased trucks to do the kind of work you need a truck to do and no one wanted to buy a truck that couldn't do what all the other trucks could do at a cheaper price. GM had to ultimately lower the msrp just to sell the stock they had and that wasn't profitable. Had absolutely nothing to do with mechanical or electrical problems.
@anonimous2451
@anonimous2451 Жыл бұрын
@@jeffscott3160 Blah blah blah...... your point is moot. The fact they COULDN'T sell em is exactly the reason they did not sell. And of course the other problems evolved after some months of ownership. Which in effect has the same principle of NOT buying a first or second year model of a NEW Model to begin with and I can site numerous examples if you like.

There was another problem caused by greedy dealers adding surcharges to the sticker price . I went to my local dealership to look at a new 454SS when they came out in 1990 , they had tacked on an additional $10,000 ( 10 K ) to the MSRP . I told them " good luck with that " , and they sat on it for almost two years before selling it .

This video was a time machine for me, I actually sold the syclone and typhoon out of Hallett Pontiac in Miami now closed. I always took the Typhoon out for lunch and not the Syclone because it was roomier. That Typhoon would whip on 911's and be comfortable at the same time.

It didn't sell well because the dealers were putting $15K premiums on them because they were limited production vehicles. I know this for a fact because I tried to buy one in 1991 when I was back from the ME with 6 months worth of combat pay in my pocket.

I truly miss my Syclones, they were the most bang the buck little trucks/vehicle you could get, I drove one cross country a couple of times and it never disappointed. Low maintenance and always ready to jump. Great vehicles, initially they were to cost $45,000 , but when they didn't sell (only 3,000 made) prices dropped and people got lucky to be able to afford a quick little race truck. Great video, thank you for making and posting this , it brings back some great memories! Liked and subbed!

Now that’s a legit cold air Intake! I absolutely love straight 4, v6 and v8 NA motors making big power ! Currently my mustang 2 has a crazy sounding 2.5lima 4 cylinder making 400 NA. Can be pushed up to 450 ish with race fuel and a high 50 degree day! It sounds so badass !! Back in the early 2000s and still today in the Marine world, there is big blocks based on Chevy motors making 750-850 NA HP out of a 510 cu motor. Have seen waaaayyyyy over 12-1300 with a 598 or 632 in the marine world.

I had a 92 and 93 Typhoons. Both were modified with several Kenne Bell parts, but the 92 had a different turbo, injectors and cam. It would make my girlfriend lose control of her bladder on a boosted, braked start. It was wicked. Sold it to a college kid in 97. Kept the 93 until 2000. Sold it to a guy in Colorado Springs. Enjoyed both of them.

As a kid I was obsessed with the syclone. It wasn't until I got my license I was able to experience one sorta. 1st generation eclipse and talons were the first turbo cars we tuned then on too vr4 3000gt. As a kid mom had a Shelby Daytona. So I had been rather into turbo configuration of all kinds. My buddy traded a 3000gt vr4. For a typhoon. And when it was running it was legit street machine. When being the key word.

They look so wide and fat when its in front of you. All-wheel-drive bliss too. The very first time he let me drive it,....I got pulled over. If your rolling about 45 or 50mph,.. and you fkn mat that S.O.B.??? You better be strapped tight. Its beyond impressive. I've never seen that truck take an L on the street. And that 4.3,....0-60mph is BS. That thing got to 60 and even more impressive,....100mph in a flash. So good.

I had a 93 Typhoon many years ago. I could keep that truck on the line holding the brakes and building enough boost that the front wheels would actually start spinning before i even let it launch. The race was over in the first 100 feet for almost anything that dared to try. Forest Green with Grey cladding, Concept Neeper Neptune Chrome wheels and four 12s in the back - and was still beating Grand Nationals at will.

The Dodge Little Red Express Truck was extremely fast for a mid 1970s truck as it was equipped with the Dodge 360 engine which was extreme overkill for a step-side truck. I do believe the car magazines that tested the Dodge Little Red Express Truck said that the truck ran low 14s stock, which was even faster than the Trans Am that same year.

I owned a '92 Typhoon, which I had restored completely. The body had rust, the paint was scratched up and faded, the plastic parts were damaged and it needed a lot of care. I spent around 3000€ in total in getting it restored, and 1500€ on building the engine. By the end of the year, I had a fully restored Typhoon, with the engine making 440hp. It was a really fun project and to this day, it's a car which I regret having sold, much like I regret having sold my '86 Grand National and '89 Skyline GT-R.
