Honestly I always liked the variant system though I gotta admit it was pretty unbalanced with certain characters, I think at the end of the day it didn't matter too much because I'm pretty sure this game wasn't designed to be played competitively so playing a "bad" variant usually was just adding an extra challenge for me. Once again great video mate, it's always nice seeing these in my subscription feed, can't wait for the next idea you got 👍

I also like to mention that the leveling up system encourages players to play different classes to earn coins faster by mastering characters. I love this since It has made me go out of my comfort zone and play classes I would never have really played without that system being in place. This is anothe rlayer that adds to replayability

While the Variant system gives great replay ability. I feel the Variant system wasn’t really unique enough to me. Most felt like the same character but slightly different I.E GW1s elemental variants. I feel like there should have been a fourth ability for that Variant for something to make them more unique.

I still remember the times I used to play Garden Warfare 1 when I first got my PS3 and loving it. I played that game a lot and even though I got the game when Garden Warfare 2 was still new there was still a lot of people playing the original back in the day. I was a huge fan of the original and the sequel and yes I used to love the sequel and it was the first PvZ game I've played because I had a phone and since people where hyping PvZ 2 I decided to give it a try and enjoyed my time playing the game back in 2013 but I did played the original PvZ in 2014 and loved it even more than the second. I know most people were weirded out of the idea of PvZ being a first person shooter but imo I think it's a great idea because there were so many unique ideas you could do with the concepts of plants and zombies and they nailed the idea really well with GW1 and 2. The character variant were the selling point and made the game unique to other FPS games because it felt like there were so many choices on what character you liked. Do you want Foot Soldier to fire up opponents or to make them slower. Not only that but they also made the game play for each variant unique and changed what they originally played. I was a Super Commando main in GW 1. I love this series for nearly 10 years and I want this series to improve instead of being a series where it's sequels are stuck in Mobile or just change with no clever ideas and change for the sake of changing. The devs need to understand why we loved this franchise and you are a perfect example. Thank you for criticizing the problems with Battle For NeighborVille and also explaining what made GW 1 and 2 great 🙏

I remember when I used to play this game as a kid it was is the best and always be the best game in my opinion, it was so unique to it. Because you unlock upgrades for your characters, looks for characters, pots/minions, and character variants. It is sad that in BFN you couldn't unlock variants or pots/bots and minions also it lacked looks for plants and zombies and the upgrades were not that good. Any ways great vid I hope u get more views likes and subs very soon.

I always liked the variant system cuz like, whenever i first played garden warfare, i thought itd be like tf2, with just hats and whatnot or something like that. Like, you would only play one single class without variety other than cosmetics. Nothing else. And then i unlocked a variant. Some of these variants are like a class within a class. Like Camo Ranger For example. Foot soldier is a run and gun, but Camo decides to go with 2 classes for the price of one. I think the same goes for each variant for each class, with each different abilities and adds more variaties for each class on each side.

Imagine special chili bombs for certain pea variants. Or special garlic drones for certain cacti. Secret abilities for certain characters, like having a health upgrade, heal time upgrade on an already beefy character to unlock a special variant of say, walnut. You need to kill a certain amount of enemies, deploy a certain amount of nuts, and have a certain amount of nuts be destroyed with the health upgrades on to unlock a stronger type of walnut. With a scientist you could unlock a bigger heal bomb that sprays heals everywhere (like a mobile heal station) before exploding hearing everyone near to it. Have a passive ability for sunflower where you're constantly dropping sun at the same rate of a flower (variant of this ability being rainbow drops or whatever) however it takes the place of the flower and you can only collect a single sun. You can switch between heal beam or damage buff for hover goat after you unlock the heal beam (healing less, but you're more mobile than a scientist)

It gave everyone a playstyle to fit in, while still being able to try other playstyles subtilty. Lets say you liked how peashooter played, other games makes you stick with that 1 peashooter alone, but gw1&2 gave the players more freedom and subtly hid other playstyles into peashooter, example, someone liked how peashooter played but wished they could charge their pea up for some huge damage, well there is a class for that. This is my interpenetration of the video, I haven't watched the video yet, this is me just guessing what the video is about to be about and to see if I was right

The variant system isn’t as good as you think it is. This guy is just a simp for these 2 games. Most of the characters suck, and you hate when you go on an incredible streak of not getting an actual good one. For evidence of this, just watch one of wolfy’s grind series. #2: a lot of the variants are just element variants; such as ice, fire, toxic, etc. while a lot of them are the good variants, it’s not like it’s combining two play-styles like this guy rambles on about. #3: most of the ones that aren’t elements don’t even really add anything. An example would be tennis star, his gimmick is that he RUNS FASTER. #4: legendaries are just stupidly hard to get. Your sanity is at risk because of the terrible rng. I still like garden warfare but the removal of variants is a topic people like to dog on bfn for. I just wanted to explain that it wasn’t such a big deal, and that the upgrade system that replaced variants sort of allowed you to make your own without any of the rng that was required. It still allows you to fit your play style maybe even better than variants would. This is just my opinion though and means nothing. I’m just an idiot with too much love for a goofy little game franchise.

Honestly, the variant system is the reason I never played these games. It seemed like a cheap way of claiming an insane amount of characters with little effort and it seemed like it would be overly difficult to memorize how to fight each one and even recognizing which one your fighting. But after watching this video, I think it was worse than I realized. The variants offer very little change to the original and are all direct upgrades to said original with some being outright unfair. Not even mentioning that you only unlock PARTS of the variant at a time, making unlocking them tedious at best. I wold rather have one new modeled and animated unique character than one hundred variants any day. I’m glad for the people who genuinely enjoy this system but I simply do not understand the appeal.

@@firstwaddledee9182 well you got a lot wrong on your "explanation", first of all you claim these variants are just upgrades and offer little vairation and while some variants dont change much how you play them (*cough*elemental variants*cough*) a lot of them have noticeable changes, a good example of this is the imp , the only character that his Mech (his main trait) gains completly new abilities with every variant (with the exeption of one). Also none of this are straight upgrades, since all of them have noticeable dowsides, im going to use the elementals variants as an example, at first you'd think that they are just like the default class but with the added status efect, but you'll quickly realise that they have less DPS than their oringinal counterpart (and in some instances change the way they are played). No mater witch variant you choose, all of them have some kind of downside. You also claim that unlocking variants is tedious since you have to get multiple parts in other to unlock them, and while this is true, you seem to be unaware that there is a pack that garatees you a variant. The only ones that you cannot get from here are the legendary variants but this ones only require 2 parts to unlock it. Also if you want uninque characters with no variants, this already exist! its called Plants vs Zombies Battle for Neighbourville and well... im just going to that that it wasn't well recibed.

And by that you can tell that I don’t know the variant system first hand. But, based on how this video described it, I thought it was straight upgrades, which I’m glad it isn’t. But that doesn’t change that at a fundamental level, it is a way to cheaply make a ton of content for easy money. Not event to mention that, to my knowledge, you can’t choose what content you are paying for. Better than what I thought but I still really don’t like it.
