Garden Warfare 2's Most Unfortunate Character

Another thing that the July 2016 patch did (that I’m surprised wasn’t touched on actually) was his damage drop off range reduction. It’s only a small 5m reduction and it doesn’t sound like much, but with how it is calculated, this effectively meant that in order for bbq corn to hit his maximum damage, you had to be near enough point blank range, or you were being affected by damage drop off. I think it’s this, along with the harsh nerfs of the november 2016 patch that hurt his performance the most, since he now only gets 10 meters to his his full 4.5 damage per shot, before it gets reduced to a measly 3.5. Also appreciate me comment being shown!

@@LtDarkRing so its pretty much an frontline/flank build , designed to surprise ennemies from an angle and eliminate pushes with the rb + mob cob strat (or alternatively just another good ol aggro build good on small spaces , oh yeah also reaping leap actually isnt required but its arguably the best option for that slot

I still think bbq corn is a decent pick. It doesn't deal as much damage as some of the other variants, but I've always liked fire variants (and always hated dying to fire damage) and it is so similar to regular corn that i just kind of feel like I'm playing corn with added fire damage

I bet you’re one of those pricks who camp with him in the back of every objective of you think he’s usable. Up close he’s completely carried by his abilities. Low C-tier character when playing him properly, and mid C-tier when “sniping” at the back of the map.

Most fire characters have something to balance out their fire damage. Drake imp, welder, and cricket star have awkward ballistics which make long range fights very hard or outright impossible, paleo has low health and is not so good up close, fire chomper and drake mech have limited spray range, fire cactus and flameface have more severe damage dropoff and limited ammo which means they cannot sit far away, fire rose, fire pea and fire flower have slow projectiles that are easy to dodge at range as well. In comparison, bbq corn is almost hitscan, has a lot of ammo in a full auto weapon and good accuracy meaning he can sit quite far back, 150 health which makes him way tankier than he should be, and 3 instakills that he can spam when someone dares to approach him. The end result is a character that can repeatedly set the entire zombie team on fire while having 150 health which is hard to chip down from afar with most zombies, and the worst thing is almost every lobby has one idiot camping in the back with him.

That idiot is usually some master that’s either >1000 rank or max rank, with no in between. BBQ is more annoying than EP in my opinion.

I feel like the Rose class as a whole is a very close contender for "most unfortunate character". They literally gutted her to the point of being absolutely horrid, with the patches she later received being essentially a band-aid for her short comings

I will admit, I am a sort of new player as I bought the game back in 2019 stopped playing, and came back on in 2021, I didn't even know about the nerfs of bbq. But the minute I unlocked him he was my favorite to play. I had people in the lobbies I joined call me a "hacker" for being too good. He was my very first variant to master and even with controller drift and a history of bad aim in cod, I don't miss a bullet with him😎. Maybe unpopular opinion but fire variants are the best.🔥

Despite BBQ being a dogshit character now, it doesn’t stop 4/5 players (mainly max ranks) from camping at the back of the map with him and ability spamming/running when confronted. Combine that playstyle with high projectile speed, good accuracy, Corn’s stupid kit, and above all, fire damage, you get one of the most obnoxious characters in the game. He’s honestly more annoying than EP in my opinion.

@@Flareguy Seriously though. He’s one of the most unfun characters to play as while simultaneously being one of the most unfun characters to play against. I honestly have no clue how PopCap was able to achieve that. When it comes to grinding BBQ (and corns as a whole), use Bigger Better Butter, play solo against Cozmic Overload on the Zomburbia map (easy mode), and use the following strategy: Run cobs blazing into the objective, trying to get the attention of all of the bots. Let them crowd around you and damage you until you have ~15 health left. Then launch your airstrike and let the bots kill you. The butter will kill all of the bots on the objective, and you’ll get +50 exp for the bot vanquish, +100 exp for the capture vanquish, +100 exp for the revenge from the grave *per vanquish.* You’ll average ~5 levels per round with this method, way better than having to slog though playing actual PVP with BBQ Corn. This strategy also works with the Peashooter’s bean bombs (preferably sombrero). Hope this helps with your max rank journey!

@@w4976. I will admit, it can be fun to dominate lobbies with EP, Toxic Brainz, Captain Cannon, etc. BBQ doesn’t do that, because it gets frustrating only hitting 3’s and 4’s at point blank. On the flip side, you can get sniped from the other side of the map by some idiot camping with him and have to suffer fire damage for the next few seconds, all because you got within their line of sight for 0.008 seconds. It’s even worse when you confront them, because all they’ll slam their Cheeto-stained fingers on the husk hop button and cheese the fight entirely. EDIT: I just realised my mistake lol, I’m gonna fix that real quick :D

When my and my teammate were playing in a previous tournament (which we got third place) he was playing bbq corn and I was playing metal petal and fire damage did more then enough to make bbq corn a threat to enemies, I can only imagine how op he would be if he never got nerfed. I will say however reg corn is just better overall even if bbq corn is better at chip damage since, yknow, fire.

Coming from a max rank, I have no idea why many of my fellow max ranks play BBQ Corn. I personally find him more annoying than good. His primary may be accurate and can hit decent with fire damage, his base damage is still not as good as stock or party, and the fire gets negated by healing. Not to mention Astronaut hard counters him...

About 80% of max ranks the most annoying characters in the game on purpose to bully the lower ranks. It’s sad, but those sweats are ruining lobbies and make playing against them more of a chore than anything. Whenever I see one of them, I find it easier and less mentally draining to just quit that game and try another lobby.
